A word from The Edison
The Edison - A Return To The Old World Glamour of Downtown Los Angeles The Edison presents a brilliant marriage of refined industrial architecture and art deco chic. The grand staircase of cantilevered concrete and steel spectacularly descends into the depths of the 11,000 square feet of space, culminating in a moody mélange of ambers and reds set against furnishings reflecting the turn of the century. The Edison speaks to the nostalgia of the time with restored artifacts and silent video montage that revisit the early work of film legends. The Edison revives the classic hand crafted cocktail with live music & floor show entertainment, an intimate menu of upscale cocktail cuisine, and house DJs. Note: Our dress code is "Old World Style", attire that exudes a sense of elegance and fashion is required for entry. Please refrain from wearing flip flops, tennis shoes, baseball caps, t- shirts or athletic gear of any type. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I seriously had at least 6 people check to be sure I had a reservation. I felt like I was doing something wrong. That was in addition to having to confirm twice by phone. Also, you have to bring cash for their cover charge, even if you plan to dine there and meet their $50 min per person. You'll also need cash if you want a shot. Overall great place and I liked the show and food/drinks, but the service was... Strange. "

  • "The Friday soup kitchen that runs from 5-7pm is a great deal. Free small tomato soup and bite sized grilled cheese sandwich. A 35 cent drink per person and 40% off drinks during happy hour. We didn't order any appetizers, but the drinks were good as well as strong. The ambiance is amazing in this historical building. Definitely worth checking out. A great spot to hit in downtown LA."

  • "The Edison is a great experience regardless of what you and your company are there for (happy hour, sweet potato fries, absinthe, birthday, small intimate gathering, etc.) It has 1920's imbibed in its heart which will make it timeless for at least the next couple of years. The only gripe I have about the place is that I expect with that kind of spirit and atmosphere of time-honored and American tradition is that the service reflect the same sentiment. Hosts and waiters were not accomodating and expressed little to no knowledge of customer service. The Edison is suppose to be a neighborhood lounge with no pretentious attitude. Some of its gears need to be switched or retweeked but other than that it was a good experience overall."

  • "I've been a fan of the Edison for a few months and decided to begin my 40th birthday celebration at there. All of my guests loved the vibe, an excellent combination of the 1920s and present times. It was the first visit for many of them and I am already getting requests to go back. Our server, Drew, was very attentative. I especially like Soup Kitchen Fridays. If you make it to the Edison, make sure you get there in time for happy hour. 40% off drinks is a deal. I would also recommend the shanghai wings."

  • "The Edison had a great atmosphere and vibe. It's not a place for a main course meal, but a perfect place for drinks and good appetizers. It's also great to have a group outing and to enjoy the cool environment that it has to offer. It was filled with a good mixture of people, from the downtown business people, to the sleek, casual group to the eclectic. I'd definitely go there again."

  • "We visited the Edison for Happy Hour last Friday to celebrate my birthday and we had a great time. Since we made reservations and went early before the crowds we did not have to wait to get in. We had a great table and our waiter provided excellent service. I was very impressed by the entire place and will definitely come back again."

  • "The establishment is an architectural gem in itself and I have been there for several occasions and the wait staff and hostesses are friendly and accommodating. I recently had a reservation for two, and I was seated in a very small coffee table. Given that there is $25 minimum per person we ordered 3 drinks and 2 appetizers and asked for 2 glasses of water to wash down the really yummy drinks. The down side, as soon as the appetizers arrived there was only room for one appetizer and two drinks – the other appetizer I had to place on the coach where another patron without a reservation almost knocked it off. So what was the point of having a reservation with a minimum requirement if I could not even fit my order on the table and was seate"

  • "Feels very grown up. Elegant, drinks are a little expensive and the waiter wasn't that attentive but worth it. Make sure to follow dress code or you won't get in. Good show!"

  • "I decided to go to the Edison to celebrate my birthday with friends and family and had a wonderful experience. A few guest arrived early and were able to be seated at my reserved table a little early. The wait staff was very attentive with food and drinks. The ambiance and old world style of the Edison is one of a kind, right out of the 1920s era. The 'Southside Fizz' cocktail is to die for, excellent. Now I am not a woman who drinks hard liquor on the rocks, but the 'Scotch' on the rocks the waiter recommended was smooth; watch out Joan Crawford. The sliders and sweet potato fries hit the spot for me. Everyone enjoyed themselves and want to go again soon."

  • "Really unique, neat place. A gem in the heart of downtown LA. Good food, great ambiance, cool crowd. Drinks were so-so, but could have been the bartender or the night. What they lacked, everything else there made up for! Will definitely be going back!"

  • "The Edison is such a classy bar, a real gem in downtown LA, so close yet so far from all the hollywood drama. My favorite day to go is Thursdays because there is no cover charge & it never gets too crowded, the drinks are great, the live jazz is always poppin & the dancers get everybody going. Cheers to the edison."

  • "I was looking forward to this experience, going back to the depression era. The martinis were $16 and the appetizers were highly priced and nothing to write home about. The entertainment was okay loved the costumes and the dancers. Very strange experience. I would go again but when they have the lower price specials and with a group of friends just for an evening out."

  • "A number of my friends had food that they enjoyed. Drinks were so/so. But Ambiance, design, coolness of the place was tops. Hard to hear, but fun to people watch and watch movies, listen to GREAT music. My new favorite place."

  • "Just had my 24th birthday here. Not only is this the most elegant and classy place in LA, but the staff is not only accommodating but friendly. They were able to get me out of a bind when more people showed up for my party then expected and their drinks are incredible. A MUST visit!"

  • "Wow!!! That was the word for the night - from the time we walked into the restaurant until we left. Came with a group of people with different music tastes and ages and everyone had an equally wonderful time. Had never been to a club/restaurant of this caliber and was amazed at all the special lighting, techniques and overall show that was given. Absolutely marvelous and will be talked about for some time!"

  • "The show that evening was great. However, we wanted to see more singing and dancing rather than just acrobats. The performance troup deems themsleves as a cabaret burlesque show. But I have been to those types of shows and this was nothing like it. I would say they are more on the street performer side. The actual lounge itself was very nice. The food was ok. Nothing really pops out for me to comment on. The drinks need a little more help. Their specialty cocktails were not as good as advertised. So most of our party just stuck with more traditional cocktails."

  • "Fantastic architecture and decor - beautiful and chic surroundings. Enjoyed everything but the food. I have never seen such small portions on a platter at such a high cost. I would go there again later in the evening (we arrived at opening time - mistake) but would not order food again. Waste of money. We had a great time and I would definitely recommend it as a vibrant bar scene to friends"

  • "Ambiance is a 10, but this is not a great place for groups after about 9pm. It went from pleasant speakeasy to super loud club. I couldn't hear my friend across the table."

  • "The Edison is a design fanatic's dream escape. The space is amazingly simple and understated yet makes you feel as though you're in another world. Highly recommend trying the sliders, and the mac and cheese, however, you can't go wrong with any dish offered."

  • "Our server, Drew, was prompt, sociable, and patient with our party. He made great drink recommendations as well. The appetizer platter for two and the Kobe beef sliders were delicious."

  • "Menu (food and beverage)quality can be and should be improved for the food offering does not fit the overall place/ service. We were lucky that our waitress was an absolute delight (friendly, witty, attentive, quick and accurate with the orders). However, the receptionist was exceptionally unfriendly, unaccomodating, and lazy."

  • "Located off of an alley in Downtown LA, the Edison Bar is buried underground in a restored power plant. It is hip, trendy and great for after work drinks or social get-togethers. It's a bar that serves food on the side; not a place to go for dinner. As a bar, however, it's one of the best in LA."
    Dined on 7/16/2008
  • "This place was nice but seemed more for a younger crowd (20's) and was a place to drink - not really to eat. We did not eat here since they had mainly bar food. It took a long time for a waiter to take our order. Once he arrived he was nice. We did like seeing the power plant equipment - boilers, generators, turbines and air tanks. The decor was cool with all of the industry stuff mixed with nice furnishings."

  • "Good for groups of 10 guests or less. Must book several weeks in advance. Great 20's theme decor, design and space layout. I celebrated my b-day on July 5th with 4 girlfriends. The service was very friendly and I was presented with mini-b-day cupcakes for my group at my table. In addition to the regular tip, I gave my server a special extra tip for her kindness and attentiveness to our small group. Dress nice and sexy. Arrive before 9:00 p.m. if you can. Make sure you have reservations ahead of time to guaranty entrance. The format has changed and there is no longer dance music, just lovely background music so you can have conversations. Nice place to spend a few evening hours. Hope you enjoy."

  • "My fiancee and I love the Edison! We had been there several times before this time; this was our first time making a reservation. We were informed on the website to arrive within 15 minutes of our reservation and we arrived, by our time, 17 minutes after our reservation, so only 2 minutes late. Our table had already been given away! They said we were 23 minutes late by their time. They were kind enough to give us a table of someone who was over 30 minutes late, but why wasn't that table given away before ours? That was a little discouraging. Then while we were being served they tried to move us as the group that originally reserved that table arrived. Why didn't they accomodate us in the same manner? Again, discouraging."

  • "The food on the menu sound excellent but when it arrived it was mostly bland. We order are food and drinks from our waitress and never saw her again. We wanted to order another drink but could night find her. Finally someone in our party had to get up and track her down just to get the bill."
