Diner Reviews
  • "Second week in a row we suffered thru dinner in stifling heat - even the waiter was dripping with sweat. Could not enjoy the food - couldn't wait to leave. I called before coming to make sure the AC was working - they should have been honest. Very disappointing - will not be going back."

  • "Great neighborhood bistro. Food and service outstanding. Great music on the sound system make for a cool vibe"

  • "I was overwhelmed by the rarity of excellent and professional service combined with wonderful food. All I can say is that it saddens me that there aren't more places like East Pole on the UES"

  • "The Summer in Avignon drink is delicious as was the kale salad and grill cheese starters. The restaurant was packed yet the waiter was very attentive. Great dining experience!"

  • "All four of us enjoyed a very good Sunday brunch at The East Pole. Good to know!"

  • "While the food was considered very good (appetizers great) by our party of 4, we witnessed some drawbacks. No bread? Look, if it's that big a deal just start charging like they do in Europe (1 euro for a basket). Would have made the wait for food a lot better; esp. since it seemed slow between appetizer and dinner (without much of a crowd). Two of us had the Fish pie - excellent concept but lacked a little flavor; served with Bok Choy - does anybody eat this dreck? (one bite by each of us and the rest was left for the waste bucket). It's fish pie and includes leeks, come up with something flavorful as a side. Two guests had swordfish and by all accounts it was excellent!"

  • "Farm to table on the UES. The fish pie is addictive."

  • "Great place to eat at any time. It's like a French Bistro and the food is excellent"

  • "We started the brunch off with delicious bloody Mary's, with fresh horseradish. We had the English breakfast and the avocado toast....both exceptional. Completed the meal with the strawberry and coconut and cream dessert. Perfect!"

  • "This was my second time at East Pole, this time for dinner (brunch before). We were seated upstairs and it was a very pretty, quiet atmosphere, nice light due to the skylight in the back and large windows in front. Much quieter an quainter than the downstairs which I also like a lot, downstairs has a bit more of a rustic feel to it. Waitstaff very friendly and professional, attentive without hovering. Food is excellent; my friends and I are usually sharers/tasters and we realized after we were all done that it did not even occur to us to give any of our dishes away for a taste... We had arctic char and chicken kiev, dessert was very good as well (seasonal strawberry rhubarb pie and bread pudding). Will definitely be back!!"

  • "I wouldn't normally provide feedback, but both times I've been to the East Pole, the service has been abysmal. Slow, snooty, SLOW again, and inconsistent."

  • "This was a late dinner. Normally I'm skeptical about trying a restaurant for the first time after normal dining hours (the staff, chefs, etc all want to go home), but East Pole surpassed my expectations. [The pasta was superb--should be offered as either an appetizer or a main dish.] The food was truly excellent, the service impeccable, dinner was worth every penny. I eat out a lot, I'll be back to East Pole for sure."

  • "Went for Father's Day brunch and enjoyed. Evrything was fresh and delicious. Avocado toast, banana bread and wonderful mimosas. Nice upper East side gem!"

  • "Yum! The salmon crostini and the avocado toast were both delicous"

  • "Service very nice and menu excellent. Noisy, though. The Scotch egg and the bread pudding were outstanding. The portions are much larger than expected."

  • "My husband and I went to this restaurant least friday, we were expecting a good food and service cause we saw many good reviews and most of the time is full of people... I have to say that we are really disappointed... We had to 3 times to somebody take our order, the food was terrible, we waited for a long time... We like te concept farm to table and we practice a lot at home with organic and natural ingredients but we also belive that food should be an experience, something that you will remember of eating, it was not the case. No flavour, not tasty at all. Unfortunatelly we didn't have a good experience and hope this review helps to improve the service."

  • "Several dishes are especially appealing to health conscious or vegetarian individuals. The vegetables are truly fresh and appetizing. But the 'usual' fare is unusually delicious as well (tasty swordfish and great risotto!). As for desert, best rhubarb pie ever. A very casual and relaxed atmosphere. "

  • "The felafel was excellent. Great service and nice lunch spot. "

  • "The staff was inexperienced, uninterested and non-engaging. The food was alright; the appetizers were definitely much better than the main courses. Not to mention, the spinach was sandy and I had to leave it untouched. Given the fact that it's Fat Radish's sister restaurant, we had higher expectations. We were obviously disappointed. The ambiance and decor were disappointing as well. Nothing compared to Fat Radish. Cocktails were way overpriced given the fact that they are nothing special or innovative."

  • "With the exception of the wait time (due to lingering tables our reservation was 30 minutes delayed) - the evening was superb. The team was lovely and attentive (but not overly so), the choice of wines by the glass is good - not run of the mill, the food - inspired. Definitely a new favorite and a place I will return to often. "

  • "We brought our friends there for a special pre-wedding dinner and it was fantastic. Our server Patrick was next-level and the food and wine were amazing. Great if you are looking for a solid new york dining experience on the Upper-East Side. Planning to be a regular!"

  • "the red wine (syrah) initially served to me was bad/ turned...then the asparagus appetizer i got was TINY, although quite good....but arctic char i ordered was RAW and when it came back 'cooked' it was actually quite gross...very disappointing, i had high hopes! loved the atmosphere but food probably wouldn't warrant a return visit...."

  • "Wonderful restaurant. Everything is perfect, service, drinks, food. I can't recommend the fish pot pie enough."

  • "Had the appetizer risotto which was delicious and really filling. Tasted like Spring. Love the market salad. Fun atmosphere and good drinks menu. I like to sit upstairs."

  • "The first time I came here was great. Last time my food was not cooked. Then came out Cold. Waiter argumentative. Just not a good experience. "

  • "An awesome place for some drinks and apps. Cool vibe, good service."

  • "Had an early dinner on Saturday. Very nice and quiet and we loved it. The rustic decor is mathing what they serve. I had Mcro Plate which was surprisingly good with a spoonful of many healthy things. My husband had Atlantic Char and he said it was also very good. We had Lemon custurd w/ Shortbread for dessert.... That custurd was super yummy!! The service was absolutely wonderful. Very attentive and they made the dinner even better. Will definitely come back!"

  • "We arrived early and were kindly asked to sit in the bar while our table was prepared. We booked a table at the end of the brunch time, so there were more than one available table and we asked to move to a nicer table. Staff was nice, the ambiance is good, food (we had brunch) was not bad, I liked the cheeseburger. Drinks from the brunch menu were not very clear to me and when I asked, the waiter could not really explain one fo the ingredients listed on my drink."

  • "the food was a waste of time. but i love this space."

  • "Pleasantly uncrowded for a midweek business lunch, and staff revealed not a hint of irritation at my being 30 minutes late. Waiter served us quickly and was friendly. Salad was tasty, and portions were normal sized. Will go back and try more of the menu next time. May become my go-to for business lunches without the business aura."

  • "The food is consistently good. I've eaten here a dozen times and only had one bad snafu that the manager didn't handle correctly. The service can get spotty when it gets very busy but at least they try to deal with it by having a manager step in and help in a hands on way. Feel bad for the server upstairs tho when he gets slammed and has to run downstairs for drinks, coffees and food if the runner has missed something...means he/she is off the floor for longer than what is needed to handle a crowded section of people."

  • "I have eaten at The East Pole three times, and enjoyed the food very much, especially the artichoke salad and the chicken kiev. The wine list has some wonderful finds on it. But the front of house staff seem more engaged in the bar scene and in being hip than in being warm and friendly to regular, non trendy customers. For a fun time at the bar, this may be fine, but not for dinner with friends. The tables for four are tiny and crowded, and the noise level is challenging. "

  • "Our table of 4 particular diners could not have been more pleased with the variety of appetizers, cocktails, entrees, wines, and desserts we savored! Great service and a fun people-watching scene completes the experience"

  • "I am huge fan the Fat Radish and this was just disappointing in terms of food. I went for dinner, but I have friends who believe it's better for brunch. "

  • "This is a great little restaurant on the Upper East Side. We enjoyed a light dinner on the patio on Mother's Day. The tuna tartare is excellent as was the peekytoe crab toast and Spring asparagus salad. The servers were friendly and the overall experience was delightful."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "The quality of the food was inconsistent. Most dishes were good but some were not. However the worst part was our waiter, who was inattentive and snarky, not to mention he smelled of BO to high heaven."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "The folks at The East Pole are warm, friendly, accommodating and gracious. The brunch menu is very interesting and changes seasonally. The food is fresh and elegantly prepared, and the setting is bright, airy and welcoming with the skylight filling this townhouse with light. Just go! You will not be disappointed with any aspect of this lovely restaurant!"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "So disappointed! On Saturday for brunch we were waiting 15mns to have the menu. Then 1 hour to have our simple dishes (eggs and salads)! We asked 3 times. The restaurant didn't present any excuse. And the brunch menu was very poor. So don't go to The East pole for the brunch, it's awfull!"

  • "When we arrived for our reservation they said they were clearing our table and when they came to seat us they put us at a table that was empty when we arrived which was in the middle of a walkway. We requested a different table out of the traffic. The waiter came right over was nice and we said what a good waiter he was. The waiter said maybe you should hold that comment until the end of dinner. We thought that was a strange comment but he was correct, from their everything went downhill. Very slow, never asked if we wanted and refills on our drinks and only saw him when the check came. It was like he knew we would not enjoy the evening. He was right about that."
