I have never complained about noise, but as I nurse my incredibly sore throat this morning I realize I must. The East Pole is a delight: the food is reliably superior to most, the menu interesting, and the setting - not too small, not too big - is elegant in its simplicity. BUT, the restaurant has begun to accommodate larger parties and last night, I literally could not hear myself speak, let alone have a conversation. I am a young(isn) person, and know that loud restaurants are all the rage, but The East Pole must do something to absorb the noise. It was simply unbearable and means my friend, who hadn't been before, won't come back though she loved her food.

From the restaurant decor & ambiance, to the attentive & friendly service and to Guy (the manager) who made out night memorable. The staff was attentive and courteous. Going above and beyond. It was our 3rd or 4th visit and like always the food was delicious. Two thumbs up and five stars!

A friend recommended this place for a festive dinner, but it's not festive. it's vibrant and energetic, great bar scene, but not really festive. Food was very pretentiously described and presented, it was quite good, but not distinctively different from many other locavore restaurants now trending. The wine list was outrageously expensive. We ordered two bottles, a red and a white, in the $60 range each, and found them to be on the level of a $10 bottle. I probably won't go again to this place for dinner, but might go for the bar or just for a "ladies lunch."

Terrific offerings on this menu, which manages to serve vibrant combinations with vegetables and fish--the cucumber salad with fried oysters being but one example--and also a really great cheeseburger. The front desk are lovely as are the fellows who provide backup, such as bringing out dishes, pouring water, clearing the table. Our waiter lacked in the essential key to good dining: hospitality. But hopefully his is an exception to the rule, for this is an endearing place to spend time and have a completely satisfying meal.

this is my 3rd time here and i've loved the food each time. it's different, not too heavy, the menu changes with the seasons, just what you want. this time the service was not good. our waiter was standoff-ish from the time we sat down and almost condescending.took 15 mins to get our cocktails. we ordered a lot of dishes to try and the waiter offered to space everything out in courses so we could take our time. except we received our first 2 plates, then another 2 plates after just 3 mis. the complete opposite of what he said. THEN, midway through dinner the host asked us to move tables so they could seat another party!! how rude.then comp'd ONE desert item and not even the SIX DOLLAR HOT TEA. what a joke. shame-loved this one & fat radish.

We had five for lunch. We loved the menu. So many selections that we liked and wanted. Hard to choose. The waiter was so knowledgeable about how the chef prepared the different dishes so he could describe them so well and we could get a good feel for each one. Wine menu was good and the waiter knew a lot about each one .Loved the whole experience and can't wait to go back.

I saw this restaurant on Pinterest and happened to pass it one night while in NYC. It was a couple blocks from our hotel. Dinner was for our daughter and her two new roommates. The first disappointment was being seated next to the kitchen and the restaurant was only half full. The air conditioning vent was blowing at our table. We asked the waiter if there was anything they could do to relieve the cold. He returned and said it had been addressed, but I don't believe it was. Really placed a damper on the evening by being so cold. I wore a long sleeved shirt and had a shawl. The food was average. The wine recommendation didn't live up to the waiter's recommendation. Overall, it was nice, but I probably wouldn't return.

This was recommended to us by some friends and we were looking forward to eating here. It started out fine, but when the food came we were disappointed. The fried oyster salad was not a salad at all just some pickled cukes not what our server told us. The halibut special was overly salty and the rib eye was tough and lacked flavor. Once our food was delivered, we never saw our server again. Needless to say, we won't be back.

While the food was considered very good (appetizers great) by our party of 4, we witnessed some drawbacks. No bread? Look, if it's that big a deal just start charging like they do in Europe (1 euro for a basket). Would have made the wait for food a lot better; esp. since it seemed slow between appetizer and dinner (without much of a crowd). Two of us had the Fish pie - excellent concept but lacked a little flavor; served with Bok Choy - does anybody eat this dreck? (one bite by each of us and the rest was left for the waste bucket). It's fish pie and includes leeks, come up with something flavorful as a side. Two guests had swordfish and by all accounts it was excellent!

This was my second time at East Pole, this time for dinner (brunch before). We were seated upstairs and it was a very pretty, quiet atmosphere, nice light due to the skylight in the back and large windows in front. Much quieter an quainter than the downstairs which I also like a lot, downstairs has a bit more of a rustic feel to it. Waitstaff very friendly and professional, attentive without hovering. Food is excellent; my friends and I are usually sharers/tasters and we realized after we were all done that it did not even occur to us to give any of our dishes away for a taste... We had arctic char and chicken kiev, dessert was very good as well (seasonal strawberry rhubarb pie and bread pudding). Will definitely be back!!

This was a late dinner. Normally I'm skeptical about trying a restaurant for the first time after normal dining hours (the staff, chefs, etc all want to go home), but East Pole surpassed my expectations. [The pasta was superb--should be offered as either an appetizer or a main dish.] The food was truly excellent, the service impeccable, dinner was worth every penny. I eat out a lot, I'll be back to East Pole for sure.
