Diner Reviews
  • "Locals ond out of Towners alike know that The Earle is perhaps the best fine dining in Ann Arbor and probably MI. Waitstaff is attentive without being overbearing and sommelier Steve is both knowledgeable and personable. Quick with a bottle recommendation or a joke. A lot of places known for their wine oftentimes keep the best for bottle service but the Earle's by the glass menun is always full of delicious wines that you may have never tried and sampling by the glass is a great way to try out new flavones. The space is also great with live jazz on weekend nights. Overall, a great place to go for a romantic / special event or anytime you want to he treated like royalty and fed equally so."

  • "The food was incredible (the duck was just fabulous). But as a college student coming with his date, I felt disparaged when they sat us in the far back corner when there were plenty of tables closer to the piano. Furthermore, I felt like I was treated like a child by Carla the waitress when she asked "if I was going to eat my vegetables." It is not your place to question how or what I eat and in what order I eat it. Duane was great though. The food was excellent, but for the most part, the service was questionable by one of our servers and the maitre'd."

  • "Amazing. Even my husband used that word to describe our dinner and he uses that word very sparingly. Food was great as was the service. We were celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary and the staff went out of their way for us. When I booked the reservation I mentioned it was our anniversary. A few days later I received an e-mail with a free appetizer coupon. Surprise! When we finished our dinner we were presented with some truffles made in house in a cute little "Happy Anniversary" package. On top of that we were given an anniversary card with a $10 off coupon toward a future dinner. It was a wonderful experience and would definitely not hesitate to return for any occasion."

  • "Menu always changes here and this one didn't seem as interesting as many but the end result was fabulous. Cooked to perfection, great flavors from pastas to salads to meats. Great wine choices and reasonably priced - we have homes in Sonoma/Napa area and the wines from there were excellent choices. Dining early on a Monday insured moderate noise levels. Great time!"

  • "the Earle is a restaurant you can always count on - it has excellent food, service, and ambience. We like the early cocktail hour as well as the dinner hour. Are not aware if The Earle has lunch service as well."

  • "Only go once a year on our anniversary.....love it every year! Would like to go more often, but since it's pricy, we can't seem to justify it. With it being restaurant week this year, it lost some of its ambience with the crowds send staff scurrying around, but the good food made up for what was lacking there."

  • "I had been waiting for years to return to the Earle after once having a perfect meal there. Sadly, two waitstaff shared our table, which wound up meaning that no one paid attention to us. We watched tables on either side of us engage in friendly rapport with staff while we were curtly asked for our order. The food came, thankfully and was tasty, but there was no checking in with us. When asked if we wanted to take our leftovers home they brought us a box and bag instead of taking it and packing it up--which I found surprising for a fine restaurant. In packing up our own goods, my husband spilled sauce all over himself. The server was apologetic, brought us our check and kept us waiting for another 15 min to collect payment. Aggravating!"

  • "We had a groupon for a two appetizers and four entrees. We augmented it with a course of salads and split a dessert between the four of us. For appetizers we chose the roasted garlic and calamari. On the salads, we chose panzanella, two gorgonzola/romain and a house salad with home made creamy garlic dressing. For entrees we chose to get the duck, lamb, scallops and salmon. For dessert we had the tiramisu. From the home made bread through to the tiramisu, everything that we chose had wonderful, luscious flavors."

  • "The Earle is consistently great. We are never disappointed with our evening when we visit The Earle. We have been dining here for 15+ years, but life has recently gotten a lot more hectic and we hadn't been to The Earle in over a year, but the Groupon brought us back. What a great date-night we had. Thanks for the temporary break from reality."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to The Earle for my 25th b-day dinner. Everything was amazing. We asked for assistance in choosing a wine and the sommelier was able to help us pick out a great wine in our price range. For appetizers we ordered the goat cheese and the fried risotto balls. The goat cheese was great, but the risotto balls were outstanding. They weren't greasy and the tomato basil sauce was to die for. For entrees, I ordered the beef tenderloin with a dijon sauce. It was very good. Cooked well and the sides accompanied the beef very well. My boyfriend ordered the scallops and still hasn't stopped raving about the sauce. For dessert, we ordered the amazing tiramisu and the server went out of his way to put a candle on top! Great meal!"

  • "My only issue with The Earle was that we were a large party (10 people) and the kitchen lost one of our orders. The waitstaff was exceptionally kind though, and apologized for the mix-up and took the missing meal off our tab once it was brought to the table. If you go here, keep in mind that it closes at 9pm (we had thought it closed at 10pm, so our reservation was for 7:30pm. It's also possible the kitchen mix-up happened because we were there so late to closing time). Aside from that mix-up, everything else was wonderful! As I said, the waitstaff was continually nice and attentive, and my group had a great time celebrating a birthday. The food was outstanding, I highly recommend eating here if you have the money for a special occasion!"

  • "I would recommend the Salmon, the pesto and shrimp pasta dish was also pretty good. The sauce on the veal scallops was too strong for my stomach."

  • "Classic Ann Arbor restaurant. Exceptional, almost overwhelming, wine selection. Professional, upscale service...great atmosphere with background jazz. Very good food."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate my birthday. Nice atmosphere, quiet noise level, the food was fine, but the service we received from the beverage server was sub-par. He was virtually non-communicative; his conversation was: "what would you like to drink?" ( before showing us a beverage list) and, "would you like some more?" (indicating wine). We were not rude or demanding in any way, and I was confused and offended by his demeanor towards us. He never smiled, and performed in an perfunctory manner. His cold manner put a damper on the evening and I'm not sure we will go back because of his poor service. The Earle is an expensive restaurant, and one should expect excellent food, atmosphere, and service for the price."

  • "The food is in our top 10 meals of our life! The beef tenderloin with pepper and brandy sauce was perfection, melt in your mouth! Potatoes and veg were equally as delicious. French onion soup was superb! Only 1 thing was amiss, the bread served was ok. I feel the restaurant should have rolls in the bread basket.. Very not like the rest of the meal, kinda out of place to have a few pieces of ok bread in there when rest is fancy and DELISH! Service wasn't as good as the food, it could be improved upon (dishes not cleared, coffee slow to refill) Can't wait to go back! "

  • "One of those rare restaurants that gets better and better. We have been enjoying evenings with friends and happy hours at the Earle for many years. Recently our meals were excellent, the choices varied and presentation and service a delight - even the pricing was not out of line as The Earle showed it's community spirit by participating in the Washtenaw County Cancer Society's Passports for Fine Dining. With so many restaurants to choose from in Ann Arbor, we are delighted the Earle has found a charitable way to remind us they are there. "

  • "My husband and I went for our 18th wedding anniversary. We had an outstanding wait staff team, Paul and Julie. Everything was phenomenal. Drinks, appetizers, dinner and the bottle of wine! We told Paul our waiter, it was our anniversary and when we cashed out he gave us a card with house made truffles. When we opened the card it had $10 gift certificate in it. We will definitely go back! Wonderful experience! "

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed two wonderful French wines from Alsace and Burgundy pairing them with delicious French Foods of lamb, veal and a delicious Salmon fillet en croute! Wonderful Hazelnut Soufflé Desert and an Italian Cassata cake! We gathered here to make plans for our trip to France in three weeks and chose The Earle specifically for its fine wine list! "

  • "The first thing that strikes you is the warm glow of dim lights and the feeling of being somewhere special. Then, when the wine book comes, you know it's a special occasion. This is not a wine list but a book of delicious offerings, all expertly described by the sommelier. The food is finely prepared and always delicious. The food and wine can be had at a wide range of prices, making it affordable for those looking for a modest dinner as well as those looking to shoot the works. Great dining and drinking experience."

  • "The Earle remains one of Ann Arbor's best spots for a high quality dinner. The wine list is unbelievable and the food and atmosphere are both great. Only negative is that we felt a bit "rushed" on a Sunday night. I guess everyone wanted to get home..."
