Best wine list in Ann Arbor, consistently very good food, nice live piano or jazz ensemble music, comfortable and gently romantic atmosphere. We were seated in a perfect-sized booth that lent an intimacy to our experience. The service was prompt and attentive, but not hovering. Two of us had the salmon that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Others reported that their dishes were very good. Nice array of desserts. We shared a carrot cake that was a bit heavy and over-sweet. I would eat there much more frequently if they occasionally took risks and tried experiments. Most of the menu items have remained unchanged for 10, 15, 20 years. That's not a bad thing -- preparations are spot-on, and their long-term success speaks for itself. But sometimes your palate wants a surprise or challenge. You won't find that here.
No, the Earle seeks consistency over innovation. The food is consistently fine, the service predictably fine, the wine list and ambiance predictably the best in the area. Food is always excellent but over the years place is really starting to show its age. We had a party of 8 this past weekend 2 of the 8 dishes were pasta meals, as I said food was excellent but pasta was served in large soup bowls they really need to work on new dinner ware and presentation, also adding white table clothes might brighten things up! Glad you can make early reservations, but sorry to say it doesn't mean you will get good seating for being early. They first placed us by the kitchen, and did not ask us if that was acceptable before leaving us. However, with that being said, they did seat us somewhere else when we asked.
