Diner Reviews
  • "Had a great brunch on Easter Sunday. The soft scrambled eggs were amazingly light and delicious and we also had the biscuits with honey butter, which were a real treat! My son had a burger, which looked like it was everything a burger should be. The service was attentive without being obnoxious. It was a bit noisy, but the mood was energetic. All in all, a really nice meal."

  • "We had a wonderful Easter brunch at The Dutch. The omelette was light and fluffy, the waffle crisp and not overly sweet, and the rice bowl was beautifully composed and tasty too. Coffee great too. So we highly recommend The Dutch for brunch!"

  • "I heard about the great brunch at the Dutch. We went there at Easter and we had a great time with pink champaign at an affordable price and great creative food. I had the poached eggs with biscuits. A great dish prepared to perfection. My wife had the fried chicken and cheese biscuits. Also excellent, the chicken fresh and very crunchy and spiced to perfection. Our 3 year old son had the corn flaps with hot cherry sauce, awesome taste. The service. Although it was very crowded was very friendly and attentive. We had a great time in this authentic restaurant with its great atmosphere. We will be back soon."

  • "The place was packed when we arrived at 9:45pm and our table wasnt directly available, but we had a cocktail in the bar area and were seated in 10 minutes or less. Try the "green flash" if you have never had the peppercorn tequila. Very well made. The dining area was bustling as well but the waitstaff was fantastic, keeping up with us, but never intruding. I could see them making the rounds and checking in on us, but i didnt feel rushed at all. Food went from littlenecks to uni to carpaccio to tagliatelle with fava to fennel ice cream with pear tart. It was superb all the way through. I'd go back in a heartbeat."

  • "We try to eat here at least once when we visit New York and it did not disappoint for brunch this visit. The seafood was so fresh and my kimchi shrimp dish was lovely. Highly recommended "

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for my birthday brunch. The food, service and surroundings we're amazing. Perfect area to shop till you drop after! "

  • "I have been here before and had a great time grabbing a drink with work friends. This time, I booked a table for 6 ahead of time and our group asked to sit in the bar when we got there, which was met with a rolling of the eyes from the hostess. We got ourselves a great table in the bar (they wouldn't show us to one) and then three separate people came over to our table over the next 15 minutes to check and see if we really wanted to be seated there. In addition, our waiter was unhelpful and rude when members of our party asked about the whiskey options, having not been there before. Overall, I was really disappointed with the service which outweighed how much I enjoy the menu and ambiance."

  • "When we arrived in NY we start to look for good food. We went to other places, but The Dutch was The best restaurant we went in NY. Congratulations!"

  • "There's something for everyone here. Great cocktails, great beer list, great wine list, a wide variety of delicious food to cover all palates and friendly, knowledgeable servers ta boot!"

  • "I thought the Dutch had pretty good food, but not amazing or mind blowing. It was also pretty pricy for the portion size. However, the dessert was unbelievable. I would go back just to try a different dessert. The ambiance is lovely but it's not incredibly romantic in my opinion. "

  • "Great dinner, oysters were tasty and fresh, great service. The Korean hanger steak was a little too spicy, but I really enjoyed otherwise. Nice touch with the fried egg. The butterfinger desert (can't remember the name) was delicious."

  • "Great food for brunch. Had the veggie omelette and the waffle, both excellent."

  • "I enjoyed the meal, it was fine, but certainly nothing to write home about. The service was fine, though the servers did seem to give an air of 'I definitely have something go more important and better to be. I had the lamb pasta which was tasty, but slightly over-seasoned. My dining partner enjoyed his meal, though his also was not exceptional."

  • "Had brunch with a friend. The dish was simple but tasty (soft scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and toasted bagel). The most important aspect was that we were not rushed but allowed to eat and talk in a leisurely and unhurried manner. How rare for a New York restaurant!"

  • "Was really looking forward to the Dutch but it didn't live up to the hype. Tiny food menu but a giant wine list. Are you a bar with food or restaurant that focuses more on drinks? Food was mediocre and service was lackadaisical. Big disappointment all around."

  • "Food was delicious, but, if you are looking for a quiet, romantic spot, this is not it. There is a old, energetic buzz here, that may not be to everyone's liking. The Apple Cider pie is the best apple pie I have ever had-- and I love to bake apple pies! Our server was most attentive, without being obtrusive."

  • "it took forever for the server to come over. we ordered drinks. took 20 minutes to get those drinks. when they finally came, they were the wrong drinks. the guy who brought them (different from the guy who took the order) demanded they were what we ordered but they weren't. we finally got the correct drinks -- and we paid for them... though not sure we should have given the whole debacle. the waiter was not attentive during our meal. very disappointing."

  • "I've dined here no fewer than six times, and this last visit was as great as my first dinner here. The menu is ever-changing, and the wine list is varied. The service at this restaurant is second to none, attentive, informative, and pleasant. Just don't sit at table 72, that's my table."

  • "Menu is diverse and nice portions for a wide range of tastes."

  • "The food was good and the service was satisfactory. The restaurant was busy but still, the service was prompt enough to make the meal enjoyable. Each dish was a little different from what you would normally expect but the combination of flavors used in the dish was perfectly done. I had poached eggs and they came with a cheddar biscuit and ham and a stewed tomato. Very English! The cheddar biscuit mixed perfectly with the tomato and even though the English breakfast isn't my favorite, this was outstanding. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meal as well."

  • "Our experience at The Dutch was marred by their no substitution policy. When asked "what is your substitution policy?" our waiter refused to use the word "substitution" instead saying, "We can subtract but we cannot add." So they will agree to avoid providing what you have paid for if you are not able to eat it, but do not offer anything in return. There are many nice restaurants in NYC which are more than willing to accommodate people with dietary restrictions, there's no need to pay so much to eat here. That said, the chicken mole was delicious. The roast pork with polenta was tasty, but the portion size was completely inadequate. Four thin slices of pork for $32 is not reasonable, especially when the pork was very fatty like this was."

  • "We had oysters and clams to start and then took our attentive server's suggestions for our main brunch courses and were very satisfied."

  • "For my party of 7 the waiter could not be more pleasing and the manager as well. They both checked on us regularly. The drinks were great, the clams & oysters were terrific and the food was the best. My dish of pasta with braised lamb was unbelievably delicious. My family had hangar steak, ribeye for two & tilefish....everything was a better dish than the next. We were celebrating a Birthday & even the dessert was great. The noise level was a little high but very energetic. The tab was also a little high, but you get what you pay for (and a little less in NY). I don't usually leave comments for NYC restaurants because many of them are good, but this one is definitely a Standout and one not too be missed! Can't wait to try other dishes there."

  • "Well, gone, so it seems are the duck fat fries. The steak was expensive but at least it was mediocre - done perfectly but not very flavorful for a $125 ribeye. It did serve 3 people amply. I think this restaurant is better for lunch but I am disappointed that the fries aren't exceptional any more."

  • "Great brunch spot. The decor is nice and the food is great. And, although popular, it never feels that crowded"

  • "Physically, the restaurant is a gem -- nicely lit, comfortable, funky, and a fine place for conversation. The food? Inconsistent. The lobster rolls and grilled trout were unusual and outstanding, the cold, soggy fries, lukewarm malfatti and uninspiring baby lettuce with sunflower -- not so much. Great, versatile, eclectic wine list - first time I've seen a Carlisle white on any list. The main problem was the confused, slow and not especially friendly service. It took 20+ minutes for our wine to materialize, and our amateur server seemed surprised and confused by simple questions and requests, which were invariably followed by the words "excuse me?" I'd go back for the vibe, but the service and food weren't quite up to par at this price."

  • "My girlfriend and I dined here on Monday March 31st for her birthday. We ordered the truffled beef carpaccio and the butternut squash soup to start as well as the fried chicken and house smoked turkey sandwich. The carpaccio had no sign of truffle or even mushrooms anywhere and the soup needed salt. The biscuits that came with the fried chicken were stale and the coleslaw was way to spicy, the sandwich was good though. After out meal we did not order desert but we were brought out a piece of cherry pie for my girlfriends birthday, which was a very nice gesture until I received the bill, where I saw they charged me for it. Overall not a good experience."

  • "Perfect fried chicken and honey butter biscuits. It was yummy, I don't if I could order anything else Off the menu when I return! Carpaccio was perfectly Balanced and the amberjack crudo with radish was Crispy and light and had great flavor. Found out that when in NYC no alcohol at Sunday brunch until after 12 pm...bummer!"

  • "This was a lovely niche in Manhattan, bustling and kind of noisy but overall great. Pleasant decor, very skillful wait staff, delicious, thoughtfully prepared food and ---incredible---reasonable prices and generous yet not overfeeder portions! The four of us had appetizers, entrees, dessert, and wine, and we got away for $350. Well worth it."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed Dutch while visiting NY. I had the burger w/ fries. The fries were delicious. I forget what my wife had. It was something with an egg on top. She also liked my fries. Her meal was not bad. We would probably go back if it wasn't NY and filled with tons of other restaurants."

  • "I had come here for brunch and absolutely loved the comfort food, large portions. Dinner, however, left us quite hungry. We ordered the brocolli cheese puffs and there were only two little bites on the plate (I had a group of 5 people with me). We all ordered different entrees and the only person satisfied was my friend who ordered the lamb pasta - which was delicious. My trout was small, the risotto was small, the spinach pasta... small. The waiter was great, but the hostess was quite curt and not the most friendly person. She could have been a little kinder."
