  • "We went to the Duck because we were looking for a restaurant for our son's rehearsal dinner. The food was good. We both liked the house salad dressing, enjoyed the white wine mussels, the fish and chips along with sweet potato fries was excellent and the steak tips were tender. The service was wonderful and the manager was very willing to work with us as plan the rehearsal dinner."

  • "I contacted The Duck and let them know that I was going to be surprising my husband with a birthday dinner with some of his very good friends (8 of us). They were very attentive and took down every detail regarding getting the party seated prior to my husbands arrival. They sat each of the party right away and they were tended to quickly with a beverage/drink. Once we arrived, we received wonderful service and were even treated to a "Happy Birthday" song from the entertainment that night "Amy" and she was absolutely superb!! Food was fantastic, service was attentive and quick-they did not miss any detail. What a memorable birthday surprise!!! Bravo.."

Our party had 4 and we each had different dishes from the menu. 2 of us were first timers at the duck and were thrilled with the menu and wine list. The entertainment near the bar (a female singer, guitarist) was wonderful with a beautiful voice and great song set. Love this restaurant!"

  • "We were looking for a restaurant in Sturbridge to meet that was midway for each of us and the Duck appeared to have a good menu and pricing. I made a reservation on Open Table for a Sat lunch - not thinking it would be necessary but just to know where we going. Apparently most "locals" know this place and with good reason. The menu offers good variety and the food is well prepared. From appetizer to deserts all was presented well and much better than average. Only negative - two different wines we ordered were not good - a Malbec and a Rioja but that wouldn't prevent us from returning."

  • "We went to The Duck this past Sat evening. My wife and I had not seen my sister and her husband fo a few months and were looking forward to a quiet evening. When we were seated we noticed a couple setting up to sing right next to us. We asked the waitress if we could move to another seat. She said not a problem and moved us to a table on the other side of the room. Even at that distance the music was to loud. My point is we don't go out to dinner to listen to music, don't get me wrong the music was good but not at dinner. As far as the food an the service goes top notch not a complant at all. We would return to The Duck but not on a Sat. Evening if you want a quiet dinner."

  • "My husband and I met our son and grandchildren at The Duck to celebrate our granddaughter's 11th birthday. It was about half way between our homes and was a good place for families. Menu had a great variety something for everyone. I'm sure we will meet there again."

  • "We went here for my birthday and it was fantastic. The reservation was easy to set up online and we were seated right away. We were hungry so a lot of great food was tasted: french onion soup was very flavorful. Buffalo chicken spring rolls were a great twist on a classic. The tuna tartare was very fresh. For our meals, we got the swordfish special with purple potatoes and zucchini deliciousness. The sirloin medallions were cooked perfectly as well. The dessert sampler came with literally a bit of everything and then some, with the Baileys cheesecake holding a lit candle in celebration. It was a perfect night."

  • "The particular night we went there was live music. Our food was tasty and we were so full we didn't have desert! I have been there previously and the deserts are my favorite part. The menu changes periodically. The chicken pagination Alfredo was out of this world! We will be back soon!"

  • "The duck is comfortable and inviting, with barn-like style, open wood beams and soft lighting. The service was excellent and food was gourmet in style. This was our first visit since the change in ownership and we found it to be a big change. Advertised as casual dining we assumed prices would be moderate but found prices higher than expected. For example, three pan-seared scallops served with polenta, swiss chard and sauce was $25, Filet Mignon nearly $32. Admittedly we did not read up on prices or look at the menu prior to our visit. Live music was nice but made it a little loud."

  • "While the food was quite good - they have a nice luncheon special, the wait staff were totally overworked which meant that food was not received in a timely manner, food was received not as ordered, and wait staff needed to be reminded of the same thing several times. Being school vacation, the manager should have added more staff. I will return - just not on a school vacation week."

  • "I continue to try the other very good restaurants in town, but every time I return to The Duck I remember why it's my favorite. This visit was no exception. I had the duck with cherry Demi-glacé. Succulent meat with crispy skin. Perfect portion size. Sustainability is important to me, so I love the fact that The Duck buys as much as it can locally, and identifies the menu items with humanely raised meat and fish. The live music varies, but is always first rate. Tonight it was Amy Herrera, who has the voice of an angel. Since it was snowing heavily, we thought we would have the place to ourselves, but nope. It was packed. Evidently, everyone else in town feels the same way I do."

  • "Before making the reservation I looked at the website, the menu and some of the photo . The menu and the photo of the location was giving me the impression of a sophisticated place. Must say that as soon as I walked upstairs I realized that it was far different than what I expected. No ambiance, no table clothe, and as far as the foodis concern it was OK. Definitely not my kind of restaurant when I have guests for lunch or diners."

  • "This is my go-to place for lunch with friends who come up from CT. I love the grilled cheese sandwich with the sweet potato fries. This time the crusts of the brioche seemed stale and the sandwich was cold. Two of us ordered this item and neither could eat the crust. Disappointing for a favorite. On the plus side one person with diagnosed celiac disease was thrilled with the gluten free menu. She ordered the lobster macaroni and cheese and loved it. The fourth person ordered the veggie sandwich and said it was excellent. It came on a roll rather than a bread so she did not have the same issue with crust. Our waitress was the same one I have had every time I have been here and she is great. I will just consider this to have been a fluke."

  • "The live music was fantastic, we were seated in the Cygnet Room behind the bar with the live music. The noise level in the room was so loud from the conversations yelling to be heard over the music that our party of six had difficulty chatting. Our waitress was almost negligent with her inattentiveness, our salads came after 45 minutes, our entrees two hours after seating for our reservation which was on time. The food was fair, scallops were tasty but the Kale was gritty, almost sandy, atop the butternut squash risotto which was flavorless. My husband's steak was rare, not medium rare as he requested and he did not send it back for fear of not getting it back for hours. Overall a night we would not choose to repeat."

  • "Staying in the area for a hobby event, found this place on line, looked like overall it had good reviews. We had a great dinner and a really good time! Loved the rustic, woody atmosphere. Our server, Tami, was prodessional, efficient, knowledgable and just the right amount of attentive. The food was excellent , especially at the price. The place was FULL save for one table from 7 on, a good mix of couples and groups, 20 somethings thru mature adults. The live music was very, very enjoyable and just right on decible - you could enjoy it but have a conversation at the same time. We enjoyed our evening enough to move to the bar after dinner and stay longer!"

  • "The "jumbo" shrimp cocktail were crisp and tasty but definitely not what I've had elsewhere that would be considered " jumbo". The filet mignon and the torta rustica (meatloaf wrapped in pastry dough) received positive comments. Two of us had the Alaskan King Salmon and it just wasn't that great. The Swiss chard that was served with it was gritty, as though it hadn't been washed. The white chocolate mousse didn't have a smooth texture and the shell it was in was so hard that it was not edible. The service was good ( we were there early on a Friday night--5 p.m. And the only ones there initially). Sadly, a mediocre experience. Not food that should necessarily be sent back, but not food that makes one want to rush back to experience."

  • "I got the fried oysters as an appetizer and they were quite good. However my main meal the maple scallops over pancetta with Swiss chard was entirely too salty. I was thirsty through the next 24 hours and my body bloated because of all the salt in this dish. Another in our party got the fish dish and described the fish as different tasting and didn't finish the meal. Our service started out extremely slow, wondering where the server was. Once we were three quarters of the way through our meal the service picked up to a satisfactory level. I have eaten here in the past when it was the Whistling Swan and the Ugly Duckling and experienced satisfactory meals, hence my return visit this time. However, I won't be back anytime soon to The Duck."

  • "We have to travel the Mass Pike and 84 often and look forward to it because of The Duck". We have never been disappointed. The food is excellent. The roast chicken is the best I have ever had and my husband recently feel in love with the salmon and chard special. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and we feel comfortable as soon as we enter the door."

Ambience was A+ Food was oh my god response from our party of 4. Never been here before and will be back. Thought the live music was a nice touch but didn't distract from the experience"

I still miss the chocolate Mousse loaf with raspberry sauce and creme anglaise from when the Lofgren family owned the Duck. Overall a very lovely evening. Thank you."

  • "We are new residents to the sturbridge area and are trying all the local restaurants to find a good place to be a regular customer. The duck has a great atmosphere and always good music. Food quality is real important to us without the place being too stuffy and the new farm to table part of the menu has made the duck our go to place for all occasions and when we have visitors. The duck feels like a ski mountain restaurant and makes me feel like i am on vacation even though its right up the street. Love it. Also the waitstaff has been excellent every time we have come. See you again soon!"
