Diner Reviews
  • "The food menu was limited but it was excellent. A lot of great beers to choose from. My husband and his friend tried 2 of the whiskey flights and thought they were great. I had a wine flight that was very good too! Definitely want to go back! Cool place!"

  • "Disappointed. Hamburgers good but did not like menu options."

  • "They have a good selection of craft beers, an extensive whiskey list and the wine and cocktail selection isn't hurting either. And oh yeah, the food is damn good too! I received nothing but compliments about the food everyone got. The Menu is a little bit different then what your used to;There's no appetizer section. Instead, they have some sausage and cheese selections, small plates (which I guess could be the appetizer section) and then the Main course plates which actually works out better for a larger group. All in all, I'm glad I picked this place for a "guys night out". Good Times awaits you here!"

  • "We had hoped for a nice experience to celebrate 2 family birthdays, but this wasn't it. We were presented with two menus, , and navigating between them was difficult, and the selection of entrees was quite limited. Our server kept forgetting items we ordered, and had to be reminded of our order. The appetizers were unremarkable. The entrees were good, although a steak ordered medium-well came out rare. A side dish was served with a bowl on top of a dish, and it slid off when being passed, causing a full glass of wine to spill , including into an entree. Although a server (not ours) brought extra napkins, we were left to clean up ourselves, and no attempt was made to replace what had been ruined."

  • "Great time had by all. Oysters were great and beer was great. Time just went by and we didn't want to leave."

  • "Great restaurant. Whenever there is pork cracklin on the the menu I always get it. Who serves pork cracklin. The other dishes we had had a lot of flavor. Great beer and whiskey menu. Definitely will go here again."

  • "We've been there before and it's been fine. The service was horribly slow, worse than usual. The food is ok, but not worth waiting over an hour for! We asked about the delay. They apologized and offered coffee and dessert. We just asked they bring our child's meal now. It was the last to be brought out. We also asked that my steak be prepared medium rare. When it costs $33 I expect it to be done properly. It was over-cooked. We kept having to ask about our food and for water. I am used to a professionalism from waiters and waitresses, that is not found here. I'm not suggesting that the "customer is always right", however, some communication about what was happening in the kitchen would have been appreciated."

  • "Made a reservation for 6 of us to go to dinner here. We been wanting to try it since it opened. We went at 7pm and the bar was hopping. It was too loud to have a conversation. The food was amazing. The hummus with smoked paprika was an excellent appetizer but didn't come with nearly enough Pita bread. It literally took 20 mins to get more. The creamy mozzarella appy was awesome as well. The salads were fresh and unique. Our party had the Berkshire pork chop, Salmon and Cod for dinner. All were excellent and super tasty. The service (2 people, 1 may have been training) was mediocre at best. It took us over 2 hours to eat with us constantly inquiring about our next course. The beer list was exceptional. Alas No time for dessert."

  • "The menu was very interesting and different, food was a bit spicy. We ordered creamed mozz on toast for the appetizer--there were only 3 small pieces--the cheese was very good. For an entrée I got the tuna tartare and a mixed salad. Both were pretty good, nothing to write home about. The water is served in mason jars which is obviously a part of their motif, but when my mother asked for another glass or at least a straw the waitress's complete demeanor changed and you can tell that she was annoyed from the start. For the remainder of the visit she was very short with us until the very end when she brought the check. Ambiance was alright--very dark, bar type scene."

  • "We have been there quite a few times and will keep coming back. Very eclectic and creative menu of well prepared and presented food. We went for a vey lite supper and had the cheese platter and meat platter followed by desert. Two negatives are that they only do well done burgers (I want them close to mooing) and we were not impressed with the deserts."

  • "Visited this restaurant and was asked if I wanted to sit at the bar. I sat with my wife and watched the soccer game on one of their big screen TVs. The bartenders were very friendly and service was terrific. We enjoyed our meal which was prepared perfectly."

  • "If beer and/or cheese is your thing this is your place. Anything else not so much. My husband ordered lentil soup and had to cut one of the contents with a knife and fork, followed by the pork chop which came with mush represented to be spaetzel but no brussel sprouts as per the menu. I had a salad and the orecchiette pasta which I could have made better at home. Check the very limited odd menu before you go!"

  • "After reviewing the menu on line, we still wanted to try out the Dog & Cask. I thought the menu - while progressive should always contain some basic foods both apps and main courses for people that are not too adventurous. There was one soup on the menu rather than a few choices. The appetizers were interesting but different. I did try the Scottish egg. It did have a unique taste, but it was rather pricey for 1 egg. "

  • "5 entrees all a disappointment. Fish undercooked. Chicken rock hard and the steak was tough. "

  • "Highly creative and eclectic menu. We shared a mix of the small plates. All the food was very well prepared and presented. Server was friendly and courteous. They only do well done burgers."

  • "Our party of 7 arrived at Dog Cask at 7 pm on a Sat. evening. The restaurant was hardly busy with many open tables. The initial service from being seated to taking of drink orders was upbeat and professional. We ordered 3 small plates as appetizers and we were very disappointed with the calamari which was very tough to eat. I'm not sure of the glass size for the beer but it seemed somewhat small. The beer selection is the only thing this place has going for it. I ordered the pasta dish and the pasta was very doughy. Overall, all the dishes were either just edible or subpar with one complaint or another. The ambience is great but the food is not to be desired. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone but a beer lover."

  • "Decided last minute to go here. Wasn't sure what to expect. Nice wine & beer selection. We had the pork chop & chicken dishes!! Wow!! Tender, juicy & flavorful! Nicole our sever was knowledgeable & sweet. Had to ask what dishes could be made gluten free, she went back into kitchen to find out. We will be back!"

  • "We took the family out for Mother's Day brunch. Dog and Cask offers a nice brunch. Plenty of choices. Overall the food was good. It was Mother's day, a very busy brunch day so it was crowded. We had to wait a bit for items to be refilled at the brunch stations. I would reccommend for a family brunch. "

  • "This was our first time at the Dog and Cask and we loved it. The food was very nice and was a very good value for the $35 per person. The carving station, waffle station and omelette were very nice and the selection of other dishes was nice. The dessert offering was litlte light, but the cakes they had were very good. The service for our beverages was a bit slow as our waiter did not seem to have much pace to hime. Overall was nice, we'll go back. "

  • "I remember when this establishment was Bistro 55 and before that South City Grill. Both were amazing. I have NO idea what the point is now with this restaurant. The best part of the night was getting the 1000 dining points. Never again..."

  • "The food was very good, but it was a little pricey. If you go happy hour or after 10 they have dicounts on drinks. Overall very good, however I wouldn't spend $33 on a steak."

  • "We went to the Dog and Cask for Easter Sunday Brunch and were impressed with the service, the freshness and variety of the food offered and the amibience of the restaurant. I had an opportunity to speak to the owner who was welcoming and informative. I would definitely go again and try the lunch and dinner menus."

  • "On our second visit, about three months after they opened, things have changed some. The menu is smaller and for the most part less expensive, with no specials. So there wasn't enough variety to choose for from the main entrees to make all of us happy. But the food was good, as good as last time that we came. It also wasn't crowded, at 6:30 on a Saturday, nor by the time we left at 8:30, which is a worrying sign. The beers and mixed drinks were good, interesting and we appreciated. Our server was not all that attentive--he did not have a lot of tables based on how full the place was, but it took a long time to get drinks, and when I ordered a second one, he forgot about it until I reminded him. I still like the place."

  • "Absolutely fantastic experience. Great food, great service and one of the best drink menus in town. I honestly can't wait to go back for more. The blue cheese is to die for as are the ribs. My girlfriend had the young chicken entree. She wont stop talking about it. Way to go Dog and Cask. I found a new favorite restaurant. "

  • "My buddy and I just happened to find Dog & Cask during an Internet search. Glad we did. We enjoyed a nice meal at the bar. The bartender Joshua (big mustache!) was very friendly and informative. We saw the hand-pumped cask beers on the menu and went right for them. While an acquired taste (esp. the room temp), the two D&C were serving were outstanding. They only serve them in 12 oz glasses (Joshua said he would never drink in anything larger than a 12 oz glass - which he seemed to live by as he was tasting several beers in a very small glass most of the time we were there). The food was really good. We started with hummus, the scotch egg, and pastrami short rib (Joshua's recommendation and it was a good one). Lots of whiskey, too."

  • "It has a nice/cozy area to the side, which could be called a "library." There is a fireplace there and it is private (as compared to the rest of the place). Very open with large bar in the middle and seating all around. Good service, but ask for the bread early if you come in starving (it takes time to heat, they said)! Food was really good. We were surprised at the place; with its name we were thinking it would be more craft beer-focused, but it leaned more to a fine dining setting with local beers and clever cocktails."

  • "I really want to love this place. Great atmosphere, fun & different menu selections, and great beer selection as always. Too bad the service was dismal, which seems to be the norm these days. How hard is it to remember who ordered what instead of having 3 people run around the table asking, "who had the chicken". Also, they did not have my reservation which was made on Open Table, so luckily I called about a week before to ask a question and re-made my reservation with a live person."

  • "We came here for a date night but it would be equally good with a group of friends or for a work social as it has different areas, ranging from the bar, the resturant, an English pub nook and a private dining room. The menu was quirky with excellent choices. We stuck to the small plates and the desserts. They were sublime. Better than the meal I had at the saddle river inn the week before. There was an extensive beer menu that included English 'warm' beer and some cask aged cocktails. All in all a fantastic find."

  • "Went on Sunday after a matinee. Not busy. The wife and I shared a cheese board and a meat board. Very good and interesting. Also, presented nicely. Many, many drink options with beer and whiskey flights and special drinks. A FUN place."

  • "We enjoy their beer selection. Been here twice and the food has been consistent. Everything is well flavored and prepared. Keep it up and we will be back."

  • "We are new to the area and have driven by the restaurant often so we wanted to give it a try. We started with the hummus appetizer, a craft beer and some wine. We both had a hamburger (which they don't cook to order but they were delicious). It was both vibrant and cozy - a nice dinner scene."

  • "Went with my girlfriend and another couple. Between the service, food, wine, and beer, the nite couldn't have gone better. To all thise that don't like the different food selection and think it's over priced, please don't go here anymore. Will be a regular stop from now on!"

  • "This menu is not for everyone. The three of us split three small plates for a taste. We had pork belly, homemade gnocchi and pastrami short rib. The tastes and combinations were great and we asked for the menu back so we could see all the ingredients. One of us had the baby chicken with polenta, one had the strip steak with mashed potatoes and the other one had the lentil soup with lemon grass and scotch egg. We loved every morsel including every single side and even took leftovers home. We had a wine flight, a scotch flight and a raspberry harpoon. If you're looking for burgers this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for great flavor sand something a little different. Put this on your list."
