The Diving Horsememorable dining experienceWent to The Diving Horse on a positive recommendation. Enjoyed the friendly service and well prepared dishes, the cold pea soup was unique and fresh tasting as was a strawberry and heirloom tomato salad. The rest of the meal was excellent as well so, we returned a second night with our son. We were recognized as having been there the previous evening and were greeted in a very friendly way. Again, all of our dishes were excellent. We plan to return.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe'll be returningNice, relaxed atmosphere with an upscale vibe. We were slightly hesitant after reading a recent review that food was not up to par with previous years. Pleasantly surprised, our experience was the exact reverse, food being better than remembered. Fluke crudo was fresh and refreshing with beautiful citrus notes. When commenting on the delicious herb (fennel fronds), the server treated us to an extra side that my husband enjoyed w my delicate halibut. The sauce with the special app, mahogany clams, rich and complex. The fries & Aligot potato sides were as expected, the fried cauliflower exceeded, becoming a new favorite. My husband thought the short rib was great but I felt it could've been more tender. Salted caramel ice cream, delish!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMfood is great - innovative, food is great - innovative, fresh - the only negative comment is that the portions are a bit small, especially for the price, which is high, but not inconsistent with the rest of the island; service is OK, as is the ambience, but it can be very noisy and the tables for two are so close together that it's not the best for a romantic dinner.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Avalon MustWhether visiting Avalon or you're a year-rounder, this gem is a must. Attention is given to every detail. A very enthusiastic & upbeat staff who really enjoy working here. The food is always wonderful & inventive without needing an encyclopedia to figure out what you are eating. A truly enjoyable experience.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
