The Dining Room features seasonally designed New American cuisine incorporating Chef Kennedy’s personal culinary preferences and reflects a farm-to-table approach with ingredients, meats and produce from the area’s farms and markets. The restaurant serves line-caught fish from the East Coast exclusively.

"We are reinventing The Dining Room – a true classic – including selected menu items from the past, redefined and prepared with a contemporary vision,” Kennedy says. “We are building upon the former restaurant’s solid reputation that resonated with local customers. The Dining Room enables our guests to be themselves in a sophisticated, yet relaxed setting.”

  • "We had won a gift certificate, so we decided to go. There was nothing bad about the brunch- the food was good; the service wasn't the best but it was fine; the dessert table was beautiful. However, the space was not good for the flow of a brunch buffet. I spent more time getting out of people's way than going through the buffet. I missed a section because I couldn't get around. Even though we did not pay- the price seemed high. It is the Short Hills Hilton, so I guess the price is in line with what you would pay at a hotel. Unless I was staying there, it wouldn't make the rotation. On a converse note, many brunch buffets have gone away- maybe the price needs to be this high to viable?"

  • "Went to celebrate my friend's birthday and being a new mom. We were seated 10-15 minutes after our reservation time. Unfortunately, there are only two timed seatings, so this cut into our eating time at the brunch buffet. I wish they had not started cleaning up the food so quickly, or come by and let us know before they did so. Otherwise, there was a variety of foods, all very good. The servers were friendly enough when they could be found for drink refills. Also, there were 3 large (6+) parties and us. The other parties were quite noisy and cut into the lovely room/atmosphere."

  • "My hubbie and I dined here following a corporate Christmas party that was being held at the hotel. The restaurant is pretty, but there was only one other table occupied when we arrived at 8pm-- and on a Friday night. Should have told us something. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, told us about the various dishes, and gave us her honest opinions about choices on the menu when we asked. We had flatbread and crispy rock shrimp to start, which were the best courses of the evening. Our two salads were OK, and the entree (red snapper in a fresh tomato coulis) was.... jusr not good. Plus we skipped dessert and our tab was still $200 for two people. Ouch. We wouldn't go back and can't recommend it to others."

  • "Was looking for a more lavish over the top experience. As a 1st timer, did not live up to my expectations. Would have enjoyed a more decadent dessert table and better assortment of pastries. Omelet station was good! Bacon was atrocious! Also needed a waffle station & gourmet French toast. Totally lacking! For the $ would not recommend!"

  • "This was our 2nd time here in the last 6 months. Both times the food was interesting (in a good way) but the service needs help. I mean that literally. When you are actually being served, the people are pleasant and take care of you. However, they seem to be in a constant state of being understaffed. Tables go partially unbussed, water glasses dry up, bread comes barely ahead of the entrees, and you'll wait a while with your uncleared plates while you wait for the check to come. If they got their staffing together, I'd probably give them a couple more stars."

  • "The Dining Room at the Hilton is across the road from the Short Hills Mall. The restaurants at the mall are jam packed and often have long waits. We have gone to the Hilton on Friday and Saturday nights and there is no wait, and the food is consistently good. The food is very good as is the service. As important, the room is quiet. You can actually hear your dining companions speak....which is rare nowadays."

  • "my wife took our family here for father's day brunch... the restaurant advertised they would have something special for father's day but instead we ate in the main area with all of the other hotel occupants. We had a reservation but had to wait for half an hour as the hotel occupants had filled up the dining area. The food was the same buffet service for everyone which was not particularly good."

  • "I made dinner reservations for my mother, my pregnant sister and myself. My sister was not happy with the menu selection so we chose not to eat dinner at the restaurant; however we did order a bottle of wine and share an appetizer. Our waitress was not happy with the fact that were not ordering dinner and refused to continue to serve us. We had another waiter finish servicing us and close out our reservation. It was unprofessional and unsettling to say the least. Not the experience I am used to when visiting a Hilton or a 4 star restaurant like The Dining Room. I am very disappointed."

  • "This is the fourth year that we have gone to the Easter brunch and it was the least pleasant. First of all for a buffet, you can't seat 100 people all at the same time! It was a mad rush and they simply couldn't keep up with the flow. The wait for waffles and omelette station was excessive. The coffee was cold as was the water for my tea. We had a total of 18 glasses and cups on our table at one point. I also feel that if you are paying almost $70 per person it would be nicer to have your food served to you white glove style rather than allowing everyone to touch all the handles which inadvertently wind up touching the food. Not sure if we will be back."

  • "The dining room opened after a complete renovation. The room is contemporary, done in greys, blacks and comfortable white chairs. The menu was varied, however the entree portions are moderate size. You definitely need to have an appetizer. I would rate the food as good to very good. The staff is very pleasant and accommodating to special requests. I would definitely go back again."

We went on a Friday night and the place was pretty empty. Perhaps they do more business during the week when their are more business travelers staying in the hotel"

  • "The Dining Room at the Short Hills Hilton is a very upscale, fine dining experience. The ambiance is right on for the menu and the service was friendly and efficient. The wait staff knew the menu items well, and were prepared to offer suggestions when requested. They also went out of their way to make sure our table was serviced throughout the meal, and to accommodate all of our special requests. There were two dishes that stood out the evening we were dined: A) A Veal Roulade made with veal sausage rolled inside the perfectly prepared veal shell. It was served with morel mushrooms, which complimented the roulade impeccably. The other dish was a Seafood Risotto made with clams, mussels and shrimp prepared in a Spanish style ... excellent!"

  • "Lovely restaurant, and the service is superb...however I find the prices excessive... $14 for caprese salad that was a few small grape tomatoes and tiny mozzarella balls I found to be too pricey. The pesto dressing was delicious however. My entree was (5 cheese) Mac and Cheese, which was delicious...but $16. So far, the small caprese and mac and cheese came to $30! With a glass of wine I was at $44, and with tax and tip I was at $55!!! For a mac and cheese entree, one glass of wine and a small caprese!!!"

This is a stuffy old room, looks like old corp restaurant. Service was poor at best , took ages for them to get right amount of menus. Food was fair. Nothing special at all. I only liked it because it was empty and I was with a group so it was great place to talk. Also no one there so we hung out for a long time. I think when I requested round table by the window they could have known I was thinking about the other closed venue at the hotel and told me.
