The Del-Bar was establish in 1943 as a Roadside Steakhouse by Jim and Alice Wimmer and today is still family owned and operated by Jeff and Jane Wimmer. The "Prairie style" ambiance, renovations and expansions are by James Dresser, an important protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I booked a table online for 8 PM. We arrived at 7:40 and were told that if we booked online after 4 that our reservation would not be honored. We waited well over an hour to be seated. They then seated us at a table that was sitting empty the whole time we waited. They had a sign in sheet and seated people after us...they were parties of 2...so were we. The hostesses were not very friendly. Sat there shaking their heads. Most unwelcoming. I ordered the scallop appetizer and it and the baked french onion soup were wonderful. I ordered their special. I believe it was a flat iron steak. The waitress told me it was the same cut of meat as prime rib. Wrong! It was bone dry. They gave me french onion soup broth for au jus. Terrible"

  • "I had one if the best steaks I have ever had last Saturday night. My wife and I had dinner here for our 20th wedding anniversary. They knew it was our anniversary and gave us each a complimentary glass of champaign. Dinner, atmosphere and service were excellent. I just hope we have a chance to go back before another 20 years."

  • "Ribeye special was very fatty even for a ribeye. Expensive crappy steak for $36.00. Scallops were excellent however were served sitting in a pool of weird liquid. mac and cheese was tasteless. They serve a wedge salad with french dressing and i have never seen that done. I think the chef might be a bit off. Our last night we went to Fields at Wilderness and had a wonderful and less expensive meal. This place is beautiful on the inside with excellent food and the most accommodating wait staff you will ever find. Go to Fields and forget the Del Bar!"

  • "went here over 15yrs ago and I remember it being a good place so we went back but not that good anymore, at best average."

  • "I can't say that I would or would not recommend the Del-Bar to a friend. I would say to someone that asked: It is expensive for what you get. The food is generally tasty. I had walleye and it was very good. My husband had shrimp and grits and 4 shrimp, even large, didn't seem like much for the price. Salads were short on greens and heavy on dressing. The ambiance is nice and there is reasonable space between tables so you can be reasonably assured that you can carry on a conversation. Service is slow-paced so I wouldn't recommend it if you were in a hurry or had small children with you."

  • "We will definitely go again! From drinks to dinner we had an amazing experience."

  • "Our experience was fantastic. The clean restaurant was runn efficiently with more than courteous staff. Upon sitting down we were greater with a smile and a little about the restaurant and the food. Appetizer of Wisconsin cheese curds were a hit. Even for a guy who isn't crazy about honey mustard. Salads were good. My wife's shrimp was very good, but all fail in comparison to the NY strip I received. We planned our dinner around recommendations from friends about Del-bar's amazing steaks, and I was not let down. Best steaks in town PERIOD"

  • "Felt a bit taken in with the Del Bar. I enjoyed the food; well prepared and tasted wonderful. Didn't like stepping back in time with no free soda refills or lack of requested modifications. Got taken in with the decent kids menu price and I felt taken by being nickelled-and-dimed on the rest of the meal. I'll keep driving my the next time I'm in town."

  • "Overall, experience was good. Not our first time dinning at the Del-Bar. Server was nice, friendly, and attentive. Waht she lacked for a 4 star dinning experience was listening skills, when she brings the wrong wine bottle, salad, and appetizer out to you, one starts to wonder about their training or focus? Not the best experience I've had at Del-Bar, but I do love their food."

  • "This is a elegant classic supper club... with great service and food. We loved it."

  • "Classic Wisconsin Dells supper club experience! We had a group of 12 and the service and food were SUPERB. Every employee we encountered was pleasant and welcoming. Wonderful bar to have a drink before being seated. The bartender knew how to make a proper martini! The appetizers, main course and sides were terrific---well prepared and of very good quality. All that said, the best part of the experience was the kind lady who waited us. Absolutely unflappable, (and highly competent). The service felt neither slow nor rushed. The noise level in the secluded room we were seated was perfect. Just a friendly and comfortable place with terrific food. We will definitely return."

  • "about three times a year I make it to del bar and never am I disappointed...the food is always very good and well prepared...you get what you pay for so spending a little extra on really good food is worth it ! my only negative comment is our service was a bit spotty...unlike fields steakhouse at the wilderness ( another excellent choice for dinner ) del bar only uses one wait staff per table...not a team approach like fields...that makes a big difference when the place is busy...."

  • "We decided to spend a little extra money for our Anniversary dinner. Was not happy that we asked for our leftovers and waitress took our plates boxed up steak and threw our potatoes away. When you spend $40 on a plate of food it would be nice to get to eat it all."

  • "We chose the Del-bar for my daughters 16th birthday. Let me tell you have way threw dinner our waitress started to cop an attitude. After then I wanted to leave. The table next to us the guy was talking very loud on his cell phone. It really disturb our dinner. They did nothing for my daughters birthday like most places do."

  • "Great steak and wine list. Prices are similar to other well known, non-chain steakhouses we have been to so it was not a shock to us. Be sure to check it out online if you are looking for a "cheap" meal. We are willing to pay for good food and drink, and the Del-Bar was well worth it to us. Our server was very professional and experienced. Would make it a must to go back if in that area again."

  • "I love this place! Old style supper club. Great food, steaks, seafood and the rest. If you go to the Dells and don't want to eat chain store dining, or gimmicky theme park food then the Dell Bar is for you."

  • "We were celebrating our friends' 50th anniversary by treating them to dinner. Our young waiter, Jerry, paid close attention to this and brought a complimentary champagne toast and a candle in our dessert. He joined in our conversation a few times and was amazed at the idea of achieving 50 years of marriage! Jerry added a welcome "extra touch" to our celebration."

  • "For the last 4 years we close our family vacation at this establishment. The hostesses this year, two elderly women did NOT greet us as we entered as they greeted other diners who entered after us. Upon being seated I sent my 11 y/o grandson to request sugar due to none being on our table. One of the hostesess brought a dish and when I and my daughter said, "thank you," she walked away without a response. Our waitress from last year, "Renee," was VERY NICE and ATTENTIVE" although she was not waiting our table."

  • "We dressed for the occasion but everyone else you can tell was on vacation as so were we. It seems to be set for both. We arrived at 500 which was not busy at all and they have a lower price menu for early birds. We ate the Pan fried walleye, cold water lobster, oysters on the half shell, crab cakes and for the kiddies they had the chicken fingers. Every single food item was prepared perfect. The walleye flaked perfectly the lobster was at the right temp and not over/under done. One thing we got that we were not happy with was one of the drinks that we got. It was a mojito. So if this is the only complaint is it really one? ;)"

  • " We've been making the drive from Madison just to go to the Del Bar for over 30 years now. Previous to this visit, my husband brought me up to celebrate my birthday. Always fabulous food and great service. Miss the piano in the main dining room."

  • "We had reservations for a party of 7 on 6-21 -2014. We arrived and once the hostess saw we had 3 children with us they quickly scrambled to set up at table in the back room, so 15 min later we were sat. Once at our table the waitress was slow. The food was poor and in fact one of our people had to send back his pork chop because they were still raw and frozen on the inside. We have eaten at del-bar for years. But because they shoved us into the back room and the quality of the food was bad, we will not eat or drink at the del bar!!!!!!"

  • "We have talked about visiting the Del Bar each time we are in town and am glad we finally did! The atmosphere was quiet with a mixed crowd dressed casually and others more dressed up. The restaurant is beautiful inside! We had steak, each prepared in a different way, and the cooks had it spot on. The food was amazing! I would definitely come back."

  • "This is a white-tablecloth fine-dining experience for adults. The Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired architecture is very nice, with a large bar and multiple dining areas. The menu included daily chef specials, including numerous steak and seafood dishes and really-fresh oysters (which we especially enjoyed). All dinners come with a spinach or house salad and fresh rolls. On the night we dined, I had four jumbo scallops oin a butter sauce and my wife had the seafood bow-tie pasta, both of which were excellent. Our waiter was very young and not that well-versed on the menu, but we had a nice dining experience nonetheless. Yes, we highly recommend Del Bar as the best restaurant we have found in the Dells."

  • "We live in Chicago and go to visit relatives in Lacrosse, stopping in Wisconsin Dells. The last few times we have eaten at Del-Bar. It is a true Wisconsin supper club. The menu is great. The food is high quality and well prepared. We have had the steaks and the crab. This time I had the Copper River Salmon. The service is friendly and efficient. Our waiter this time was Jerry and he was terrific. We will certainly continue to stop there when in the area"

  • "There were 14 of us for dinner on Saturday night. I made reservations through their online site, which worked great. I had requested seating in the main mezzanine. When we all arrived we were led to the best seat(s) in the house. All of our meals were beyond expectations. They were delicious, the cocktails were great and the service was wonderful. Everyone raved about our experience and will be back again, SOON."
