Diner Reviews
  • "Part of our party was 30 minutes late after our reservation but we were never rushed Our server was super"

  • "Had always meant to try The Dead Fish. Had lunch with friends there and it was amazing. Beautiful, excellent service, and delicious seafood and everything else. Even the bread was great: made on site, warm. Desserts not a star attraction here, but who cares?"

  • "Thanks to the staff at the Dead Fish for the wonderful dinner and customer service. There were 8 of us and we each had something different from the menu. Everyone loved their dinner and thought the customer service was great. The waiters gave us plenty space but always seemed to be there whenever we needed something. It was easy to make the reservations on line and changes were handled expediciously. We had a wonderful night. I plan to return for the evening, outdoor dining as it warms up. The views are wonderful by night and serene by day."

  • "I would suggest reservations. Specially if you want a view of the bridge and the water, or one the the cozy spots near the fire or one of the alcoves. Service was dynamite, and the portions were more than generous. Food was really well done. I'm not a huge fan of dungeness crab, but the way they serve it up there it's the best in the bay area. The also have some great menu choices for those who don't eat fish, including steaks and serious traditional prime rib. Dessert menu was a bit of a disappointment, but otherwise this restaurant is a solid choice for seafood lovers."

  • "Great experience with a group of 4, excellent service, drinks were served timely and the food was cooked to perfection. Can't say enough good things about it and can't wait to go back and dine on the patio!!"

  • "I used the internet reservation system which worked out perfectly. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Waitress was awesome. Views are incredible. Selection on menu is varied enough for those who like fish and don't. Halibut and Salmon were very good. Filet mignon like butter. Crab cakes very yummy. The restaurant was busy, so I would definitely suggest reservations for weekends. Parking can be challenging."

  • "They had our reservations and were expecting us. Have been to this restaurant before and have always enjoyed it. The food is great and the service has always been good as it was this time.. 3 of us had a CrabLouie and it was great with lots of big pieces of crab and the salad was deicious. One in our party had the Crab Enchilida and he enjoyed it very much. The quantities of food served was very nice. Definitely will go back again."

  • "I enjoyed having dinner here for fresh sizzling seafood. However the mussels were small (about dime size). The server was friendly and attended to our needs. Another great plus is their no corkage fee when you bring your own wine!"

  • "...and so do the other Dead Things on the menu. All in our party of 4 ordered something different--all of the entrees were great (as were the desserts.) The service was excellent, and you always get a great view. A big "thumbs up" from the four of us!"

  • "Don't be distracted by anything else on the menu, go straight to the crab feast............with the butter and garlic, wonderfully fresh bread, it is dinner and dessert all in one."

  • "We went for brunch to celebrate a Birthday. Italian omelet was tasty with the right texture. Fish sandwich has to be one of the best! The chocolate desert is not to be missed---can't beat a perfect brownie bottom and the sublime mouse layers of chocolate and white chocolate. A winning combination. Service was 5 star......outdoor dining on a beautiful day made for a sublime meal."

  • "Ok the Dead Fish is probably not perfect. But love eating there with the beautiful view of the bridge and water. I have never had to wait to be seated for my reservation. Staff are nice, but busy. I love the Salmon with vegetables and creamed spinach. My kids love the bread, garlic noodles, and clam chowder. It is not a cheap place to eat, but always feel happy when we eat there."

  • "I had a wonderful experience. The wait staff was attentive and courteous. I had the filet mignon and it was one of the best steaks that I have ever had!!!! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone and will for sure being going back ASAP!!!!!"

  • "I took my sister to the Dead Fish for her birthday lunch. I hadn't been there in a few years. The server was nice but not very attentive. We had to ask for water, refills, bread, etc. Our appetizer was the fried calamari. it was over cooked, dry and so chewy that we didn't eat most of it. My sister ordered the Cioppino / Dead Fish Stew it had a generous amount of fish, mussels and clams but the sauce was not at all good. The coffee was very weak... I ordered the Crab Louie, it was very good. The bread was very good and fresh, and the desserts were also good. Overall we it was not as good as we had expected it to be."

  • "I had a date there and I must say it was some of the best food that I have had in a while and I consider myself a foodie. My date loved loved loved the place and he is considered old school/hood. The food was fantastic, the drinks were also good, could've used a bit more alcohol but good nonetheless. I highly recommend going to anyone who loves food period not just seafood."

  • "This place is large, has lovely views and is wonderful for scenic dining. The service is good. The two meals we ordered were good, not outstanding. The Proseco we ordered was lovely and our waiter was attentive, though his hovering made us a touch uncomfortable - thinking he wanted us to finish more quickly than we wanted."

  • "Hubby and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary this weekend and it was a great experience. I was a little put off when I was told we would have a 30 minute wait even with a reservation, but by the time we sat at the bar and ordered appetizers our table was ready....less than 15 minutes. Service was quick and efficient. Food was great too.!! Thanks for the complimentary dessert to cap off our celebration."

  • "Beautiful location , great view of the water. But parking is very limited , so ladies might want to skip on the heals. I had to walk down a steep hill in heels holding my fiances arm for dear life , now I know to wear flats. The restaurant was really hot and stuffy and no where to wait while we were waiting for our table . Service was excellent! Our waiter was very tentative and we got our drinks , appetizer, dinner and dessert really fast! Food was okay. My salmon entre was bland , had to add a lot of salt. Not worth the price . Our drinks dessert and appetizer were pretty good however . I will try it again, maybe it was just an off night for the food ."

  • "We ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with crab, medium rare prime rib and mixed sea food black ink linguine. Although the Alfredo sauce was delicious, there was hardly any crab in the sauce. I enjoyed the mixed sea food too and the cioppino sauce was delicious. However whilst the fish, squid, prawns were tasty, the crab legs were very bland and not fresh and I disappointed as crab is my favorite seafood. The prime rib had great flavor but on the dry side as though it stayed too long under the hot lamp. So it was more on the medium side.Spinach was delicious. The restaurant was packed for a Saturday night and the ambiance and decor were lovely. Total bill with drinks and no dessert totaled $170 for 4 which is ok if food was better!"

  • "Brought my friends/customers from Omaha NE for dinner and to relax and wait out the traffic. Our waitress was outstanding. We were into having an good time and a good meal and she was the perfect host. The food was just great and brought out in a timely manner. The price was right on and we hit perfect traffic to Santa Cruz that evening. Good Job"

  • "It's unfortunate but I was hoping for a better overall experience. The first time I went was a few years ago for my birthday. I had an amazing time and the food was phenomenal. That being said, I can't imagine what has happened in 2-3 years to make the quality of food decline so. I had the prime rib....I didn't eat more than a few bites. Not a great cut of meat, I didn't force it down. The creamed spinach was completely lacking. No creamy texture, no flavor. The mashed potatoes....I promise my 4 year old would have done a better job. My boyfriend got the shrimp Alfredo. He said it wasn't anything to brag about. The drinks were ok, a bit watered down but hey....at least we've managed consistent mediocrity throughout the course of the meal."

  • "We have been here 4 or 5 times for dinner in the past few years but this was probably our last trip. The views are as spectacular as the food is mediocre. We had fish - chips and pasta alfredo (both $18). So-so dishes, nothing to write home about. Average food, nosebleed pricing, dirty silverware, very crowded and loud bar scene....will probably not be going back."

  • "This was my 1st visit and I must say I'm very pleased. Staff was very pleasant & food was very good. The cheese bread is the best. Prime rib & shrimp meal was excellent. I must tell you though it's a bit pricey but we'll worth every dime."

  • "This was my second visit, and I decided to try what someone in my party last time ordered, crab and angel-hair lasagne. It was amazing. Unusual and delicious. Appreciate the free corkage as well."

  • "This was my third time to Dead Fish. I brought along a few family and friends for this occasion. My friend Joe had the Salmon poached in olive oil. His was cooked well and tasted great. My husband had the chicken and chips. It was good. Nothing special. My son had a steak which was really cooked perfectly. I had the Halibut poached in oil and it was super dry..would not order again other than the sides were really yummy. Waiter was awesome..."

  • "I was a first timer & I loved it. We did not like the table that they put us at because we were too close to a large group w/ a table in the middle of the row but they moved us right away, at a more private table. The crab cakes although small, was DELICIOUS. There are no fillers, & its all just crab. They do things with seafood that you haven't see done before from crab lasagna to crab enchiladas. There were some many options on the menu that it took us probably 20 minutes to finally order but our waiter was patient w/ us the entire time. I ended up w/the crab & shrimp & it was perfectly season. I always eat my crab w/ butter, but I didn't need too because the crab was seasoned so well. I will definitely be back again.."

This time I made a reservation and as i got there they took us to our table and the server took our order right away. Food was delicious. We sat on the patio. It was a beautiful night. Im sure i'll go back there in less than a month."

  • "We are from Vacaville, the trip was about 40 mins around 5:00 pm on Sat.night. Parking was hard to find.had to drive around till someone pulled out ,and hope to get lucky. Restaurant seemed full ,with a long line waiting. We had revs.for 5:45 pm we checked in , and our table was ready. We were a party of 4. We were seated, and our waiter was right there for our drink orders. The wait for our dinners was not long at all. Our waiter was always there any time we needed anything. We all loved it, and will be back again. Our friends are from Travis,he is one of the wing commanders,he said he will spread the word too his troops. The restaurant could offer a discount for them. Thanks to all at THE DEAD FISH we'll see you again"
