  • "I ordered the beet salad with shrimp for about $20. The waitress brought me a bread-sized plate with two pieces of lettuce, half a teaspoon of goat cheese, and maybe three beets cut into tiny pieces. On top, was the shrimp. When she first gave it to me, I thought it was just the shrimp and she would be bringing me the salad separately. But that was it. The waitress got an attitude when I pointed out how stingy the salad was. On the way out , I asked for the manager. He said the portion of the beets on the salad had been reduced in the last few weeks because of prices and the drought. He said I was the second person this week to complain, and agreed it wasn't right. But he didn't offer any kind of compensation. We won't be going back."

  • "The service, ambiance, decor, and the view all made our brunch here fabulous. The bread and butter served before our meal was delicious, but I had to ask for my plate to be returned to the kitchen twice and eventually settled on just eating an oversize goblet of fruit. Overall, the food itself wasn't very impressive but other guests did remark that their seafood was incredibly fresh and flavorful. (I don't eat seafood so I'll take their word for it!) Our server was prompt, our glasses stayed filled to the brim, and fresh bread was brought to our table as soon as we gobbled up the latest portions. Definitely worth a visit, if only for the view!"

  • "I've been to the restaurant four times. Two times the food was great the third time was okay and the fourth time was just okay. The prime rib was very warm and cream spinach was not very creamy at all!! The crab was not fresh it had a fishy taste. Which means it's NOT fresh!!!"

  • "This is an great place. The first thing I want to mention is that you can actually have a conversation -- even when the place is full. It might be the thick carpeting but you don't have to shout. And the food is great. Many great seafood things. Service was very fast. Food very good. The only thing I didn't like is that with the cioppino and some other dishes, they throw in crab legs with the shell - making for a messy extraction job. Fantastic view outside overlooking the bay and the straits leading to the Sacramento River."

  • "Casual dining with views of Bay and Straits with easy access from freeway. Crowded when we arrived but thinned out later. Enjoyed a cup of crab chowder - crab added to clam chowder. There are many crab choices as well as some beef. We chose fish entrees. I had salmon with capers and Italian veggies and my husband had basa with same sauce. Food arrived in very hot tureens straight from oven and was tasty. Enjoyed strawberry cheesecake for dessert - light cake and attractively presented but strawberries were not fresh. Service was good."

  • "I booked a reservation for 5 at 8pm.Once we arrived, all hosts said they never did that reservation nor seen my reservation or name.They didn't recognize it at all and they didn't have a table ready for us.We ended up waiting for 45 minutes or so despite a reservation and we didn't get the outdoor seating my mother wanted.This place should be more organized and if someone has a reservation then have that table ready.If they don't recognize that reservation system online then The Dead Fish shouldn't have it on their website in the first place.The food was okay to good,and we had a nice waiter.The parking and wait with reservation plus the food and seating was not worth it."

  • "First time at this restaurant. Heard from friends that it was a great place to go and they were right. Food was great, service was fast. The only thing negative is the parking situation. I had to drive around several times before finding a spot - even the street parking up the hill was full. I thought since I went at 6:00pm I would beat the rush. If you are going with a group I would advise parking somewhere else and car pooling in to the restaurant."

  • "We came to The Dead Fish to celebrate my mom's birthday. Had made reservations the night before and were seated within a few minutes of arriving. Originally we were going to be seated in a booth indoors, even though when making the reservation I requested outdoor seating. We were moved to a cabana outside and it was a pleasant surprise. Privacy for our small group, great view, and amazing service. Dinner was delicious -- my mom and brother each had 1/2 crab with the sauce on the side, I had mixed seafood pasta, my sister in law ordered the fish and chips but sent it back because it was soggy. Enjoyed a bottle of wine that we brought with our appetizers."

  • "The Dead Fish is anything but dead. It's energetic, packed to the house, yet still comfortable and with a nice ambience. I sat outside, which had a beautiful sunset view and the weather was fantastic. The food was great: the salmon was cooked perfectly, and the basa (a flaky, white fish from Vietnam that's very tender) was also cooked to perfection. The service was good, and the waiter was attentive to our "wine" needs. Very friendly and energetic staff. The only caveat I have for guests is that, due to the restaurant being crowded, you may end up getting your main entree shortly after your appetizers, so be sure to tell them that you want to be able to focus on and finish your appetizers before they bring your main course. Enjoy!"

After some disappointing "nights out" spent at other restaurants, it was so refreshing to see smiling faces, helpful staff, wonderful table service, excellent food and a genuinely positive and fun night out.   • "Took my sister for a birthday celebration. Chowder was very good as well as green salad. Sister liked her garlic noodles with crab meat. We both had the sea bass with different toppings. Fish was good but the olive oil in both dishes were a bit overwhelming & made the entree greasy. The asparagus in the vegetable medley had some of the ends not quite removed so was fiberous. The warm bread from Acme was delicious as usual. Would probably not order the fish dishes again. The birthday cake treat was special along with the lit candlelabara."

  • "I was able to book a table at half an hour's notice so we were surprised to see the parking lot full. There was indeed a table available when we arrived but it didn't have a view of the bay. We were asked if we wanted to wait for one with a view; we declined. On hindsight, we should have waited for one so we could have gotten our money's worth. Prices were pretty expensive relative to the portion size. We needed the view to justify the price. The crispy crab cake was delicious but way overpriced at $15.90 for 2 small pieces. Even the skillet combo was good but not worth $39.95 because the seafood items appeared malnourished. I loved the fries in the fish and chips. The pastas were okay. Service was very good though :)"

  • "We went for my girlfriend's birthday and sat outside to enjoy the view. Our server left much to be desired and did not bring a refill for our drinks until the end of the meal nor did he check on us during the meal. We saw him a total of 3 times at our table. All of this could have been overlooked had their not been a table full of loud and extremely intoxicated people behind us who they continued to serve alcohol. This family was playing their own music out of their phone and singing along as if it was a Karaoke bar while yelling inappropriate phrases. Most of the patrons were couples celebrating a special occasion and they ruined it for everyone. The server nor the manager stepped in."

  • "Our party of four arrived at the DF at 7:00pm on a very warm evening. Seated outdoors we enjoyed the sunset and changing colors of the Carquinez bridge. The mild weather-felt like we were in HNL! Mickey was our server and she took care of us immediately serving our champagne we brought (no cork fee!), recommending a wonderful dish (crab lasagna) and the homemade cake brought with us (birthday boy received a complimentary dessert as well!). The entire evening was a leisurely dining experience that felt as if we were at a family or friend's home. Thank you DF!"

  • "We sat outside and the temperature was very moderate and the view amazing. Our server was prompt to take our drink and appetizer order. Within minutes, two martinis were sitting in front of us, along with tasty bread and a basket of some of the best calamari we have ever had. We ordered the crab enchiladas and the sea bass in a light curry broth with clams, mussels and vegetable. Both my wife and I were wonderfully surprised at how amazing the entrees tasted. These were two of the best meals we've had in a long time. Service was prompt and attentive... overall, the experience was an 11 on a 10 point scale. I can't say enough about great this experience was!"

  • "If you are stuck to go somewhere nice and love seafood, this is it. We enjoyed bringing our out of town guests here for their last nite. Fun and easy going, good food. Love the roasted mussels and fish n chips. The garlic noodles with fresh crab is memorable. Tried the calamari this time, very fresh and good flavors! Waitress and lots of staff served us well."

  • "It was my very first time eating at The Dead Fish and I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and came out very fast. We started with the Iron Skillet of Muscles, It was amazing! So hot and fresh it was a great pick. For the Entrees we decided to split the Seafood Pasta and a Whole Crab. The crab was huge! They kept true to their "All crabs are over 2 lbs" motto. The only problem was the waitress seemed a bit rude and would disappear from time to time. Besides that I will return soon to try"
