Diner Reviews
  • "I was sadly underwhelmed by the menu. I had a very hard time deciding on what I wanted because none of the entrées sounded that good, and then I had a harder time on the sides! My girlfriend was in the same boat as well. The service was very slow as well and they got both of our orders wrong! The location is beautiful though!"

  • "What really makes this place is the view. The food was nice, but along with the view, made it even better."

  • "Loved it. Ordered the shrimp and grits with smoked gouda and the scallops. It was wonderful. They even brought balloons for my 18 month old. They were very nice and we loved it. It is a must-eat if you are visiting Tuscaloosa."

  • "First impression was awesome! Time of arrival with no wait time was great! The restaurant is in a great location! Highly recommend!"

  • "Our lunch on Saturday could not have been better. Great service, excellent menu choices, excellent preparation plus out-of-this-world desserts."

  • "Enjoyed our first time dining at Cypress Inn. Our party of 8 enjoyed great appetizer sampler followed by excellent oysters, scallops, shrimp. Portions are large and desserts are amazing. The view of the river is beautiful. Oddly enough, we attempted to make a 6:00 or 6:30 reservation on a Wed. evening and were told that the only times available were 5:30 or 7:30, so we took 5:30. We left at 7:30, and there were dozens of empty tables the whole time we were there. When we arrived at about 5:15, we were told that the restaurant did not open until 5:30 and were told to wait in the lobby. However, there were several tables of people already seated in the bar area. I asked if we could have a seat in the bar, but was told no."

  • "the waitress was very attentive without being obtrusive. She knew the menu very well and was very helpful for those who had not been to the restaurant before. Service was very good."

  • "I had the opportunity to dine at Cypress Inn on a Friday evening while on an impromptu date. Thanks to Open Table, we were seated as soon as we arrived. CI can be very busy. The waiter C.J. did an outstanding job of taking care of us. For an appetizer, we had buffalo shrimp. Very tasty with just the right amount of sauce. For an entree she had chicken breast, loaded baked potato, and a house salad. I had grilled pork chop, country club squash, mash sweet potato, and a house salad. We both were pleased with the preparation of our meal. For some reason, the grill pork chop came on top of the mash sweet potato. Didn't really like that aspect of the meal. Overall, enjoyable evening."

  • "Food was good. But the shrimp my husband ordered still had a piece of a shell on it and he got choked other than that it was good"

  • "Outstanding food, good service and great scenery describe a typical visit to the Cypress Inn. Everything on the menu is good but you don't want to miss the shrimp and grits! Great for special occasions, business or just out with friends this is really a great place!!"

  • "Excellent views of the Warrior River, classic location. We sat outside on a steamy Alabama summer evening and had a wonderful time. Was there with 10 family members ranging from 4 years to 64 years. The service staff on the outside deck was outstanding. Very accommodating and friendly. Also one of my daughters lost a shirt and the entire staff and managers looked everywhere for it for over 30 minutes. Truly a special experience and special people."

  • "Cypress Inn is a great restaurant with an awesome river view. If you are looking for a romantic evening this is the perfect place. The food is excellent and the scenery is phenomenal. After you eat take a stroll along the board walk to digest your wonderful meal and talk with your mate."

  • "When we drove into the parking lot, we had a hard time finding a parking place. The restaurant was really pretty from the outside. Was a little dated on inside. Outside dining was very nice. View was nice. Our waiter was not very interested in suggesting what he liked from the menu. The tilapia I got was delicious and my husbands Tuna was great too! The appetizer sampler was also very good. We will go back."

  • "We had heard so many people say how wonderful this place was to eat. We gave it a try. Food was OK. We had buffalo shrimp appetizer (5), shrimp and grits (5), hamburger, and cypress inn special. Followed by the dessert sampler. The hamburger was ordered plain and came out not plain. It was sent back and the other people at the table had finished eating supper and dessert before a new one came out. I think if we ever go back we will just order appetizers and dessert. It was a nice view but when the food is just OK the view isn't that big of a deal. PS- Make sure if you are seated in the bar not to be under a vent. Your food will be cold before you get a chance to eat it."

  • "Besides the fact that we waited for a server 15 minutes after sitting down, I was disappointed with the food. My smoked chicken was a tiny, dry chicken breast grill that had been butterflied to make it look bigger. My husband ordered the dinner portion and it was just slightly bigger. The side salad was sad. Needless to say when got home I had to find something to eat because I was still hungry."

  • "This restaurant is amazing. The menu has choices for everyone. I've never had a bad meal here. Not only that, but eating here on a Friday or Saturday night with the ambiance of the river is a truly memorable experience."

  • "This was our first time eating at the Cypress Inn. We were celebrating our 11th anniversary. We made a reservation and there was a table waiting when we arrived. The server was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. We had the filet with shrimp and it was delicious! I was way too full for dessert there, but I took a piece of Mississippi Mud Cake to go and it was amazing! We will definitely be back!"

  • "As the sun set we watched from our premier table in the bar area. Upon entering we were seated well ahead of others because of reservations. The eatery was vibrant and the specials offered on this Friday evening were delightful. Our server greeted us promptly . As we like our meal was paced well giving us time to enjoy our appetizer platter and small salads . We dined on steak and salmon . A wonderful evening !"

  • "The restaurant did not honor a confirmed reservation I made through OpenTable, and the hostess was unconcerned that the restaurant was not honoring the reservation. They did offer to put us on a long waiting list with diners who had not made reservations. We left the restaurant without eating (did not even receive an apology) and so cannot comment on the food or ambiance. My wife and I had driven 350 miles to Tuscaloosa and made these reservations over two weeks in advance, so the restaurant's refusal to honor our confirmed reservation was particularly disappointing."

  • "There are many, many ways to serve shrimp & grits. I've tried them all and most times, the shrimp are tough. But this particular version was the very best. Sautéed onions and smoked Gouda made the difference. Plus, the riverside setting . . . So nice. "

  • "The food was wonderful, especially the fried green tomatoes! I had the fried oysters, and they were very tasty. The service was excellent, too. We only had an hour before attending an event at the University, and they brought our food quickly. I definitely want to dine there again. Too bad there's not a Cypress Inn in Birmingham!"

  • "Wonderful, from the time you walk up on the porch till you amble out again, the Cypress Inn fills you in every way! My family and I topped off our "A Day" at the University of Alabama by having dinner here, it was the perfect ending to a perfect day. We were seated at a window table, the view is calming and serene, watching several barges go by was an added bonus. Service was superb which is an accomplishment with a full house of Bama fans that were hot, tired, excited and sunburned but the staff was friendly, patient and helpful. The food was beyond our expectations, words can't do justice to this menu! My favorite was the Fried Green Tomatoes, the only place I've ever had them where they were done the true Alabama Way, true love! Go eat!"

  • "Our waitress did not bring us silverware, I had to ask for it. I had to return the first dish i ordered, because it was to spicy. They were out of all of the specials for the night, as a matter of fact I had to ask the waitress about them. There was no excuse for the poor service or running out of food."

  • "Cypress Inn is a favorite spot for lunch, dinner, and group gatherings in Tuscaloosa. The food was delicious and the service was helpful. The biggest surprise was the "dessert sampler", which was four very generous slices of their deliciously famous pies. We could not begin to finish them! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cypress Inn."
