  • "We came on no recommendations and were pleasantly surprised by the good service and excellent food and wine selections. The staff was very attentive and we will come back."

  • "This is a great place to go for a friend's birthday lunch."

  • "We had the luck of having the restaurant's sommelier as our waiter. Besides being an excellent server, provided outstanding wine choices for our appetizers and main meal."
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "The food was great. But the waiter forgot to bring us the wine we ordered. It was odd eating wine styled restaurant without wine."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "This is our 3rd visit, and it will now be my "go-to" restaurant! Love the wine choices and the 1/2 portion menu."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Nice restaurant with good food, but the waiter and service were a bit off/slow."

  • "Went in a double date here. Loved the food and the waitstaff was very attentive. Great wine as well."

  • "Delicious and creative menu choices. Relaxing and pleasant atmosphere. Love that half portions are offered for so many dishes."

  • "This place is absolutely worth a try. The menu is very solid New American, and it is pretty creative in just about all aspects. The wine and cheese plate pair was great because of the server's obvious knowledge and suggestions. Nobody was disapointed by the dish they ordered and the availability of half-plates was awesome because we were able to share a number of dishes. The price was exactly what i wanted to pay for the quality of the experience. While there is a large wine retail section of the restauant it did not interfere with our dining at all. No liquor bar for after dinner drinks is my only complaint (there's always more wine!). Certainly try the fried brussel sprouts and the scallop entree"

  • "The curious grape does a nice job of having a formal ambiance, while still encouraging visitors off the street. The menu is great for foodies, has a lot of variety and I loved that the wine list had options for a quarter glass, half glass, glass, half bottle or bottle of wine. If I had had an unlimited budget, I would have needed a cab ride home!"

  • "Dining experience depends on service, and ours was well, moderate at best. I hope our waiter was new, if not, they need to re-evaluate their staff. He was less than attentive, we ran out of drinks twice and had to flag him down in order to get a refill. Was not familiar with the menu and seemed out of place. The menu was what I expected and the food was delicious. Wine selection was fabulous, would have helped if our waiter could of made some suggestions or even knew what we were asking for when we did make a decision. Deserts were very tasty & I love the portion size. We would give the restaurant another shot."

  • "The fried brussel sprouts definitely stood out. The pairing with pistachio and beet puree is genius. They're so addictive that we had to order two plates. My duck entree was also cooked nicely, though the farro was slightly on the bland side. A sprinkle of Parmesan cheese may help. I thought the maple pot de creme was too sweet for my liking. Overall, a great meal!"

  • "Had another great meal here last week-the scallops are to die for! Ate early to get the 1,000 bonus points and glad we did because by the time we left, the crowds were coming in. We had great service and our food was delicious and presented nicely. We will be back, again!"

  • "One of our better eating experiences with the added value of super service!!!"

  • "Every appetizer and entree was perfect. Tasty, unique, and very well done. 5 stars."

  • "The noise level was entirely too loud for my table to have a normal conversation. The wait staff was great and the food was good, but the Grape is charging higher end restaurant prices for a wine store hang out experience. It is fun for appetizers and wine flights around the bar, but if you want a romantic or conversation noise level dining I'd try one of the many other options available in the Shirlington area."

  • "The Curious Grape continues to be wonderful - food, service, etc. Ideal before a show at Signature or the movies . . . or a night out."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Unfortunately, we were seated next to the wine tasting. It was very loud. It really ruined the ambience. Additionally, our waitress forgot to put Arwine order in and we never got bread. Therefore, our wine pairing didn't arrive when our appetizer arrived. They did take care of it, but by then we were a little frustrated. This definitely seems to have been an off night. The last time we went everything was absolutely perfect."

  • "Lovely wines, great veggie sides, hard to choose from the very intriguing, original menu but doesn't matter becuz it's all delicious."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Food was good but not amazing. Service was also very good. Great wine and beer list."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Service was extremely poor and indifferent. I am a very generous tipper but only left the minimum 10% for this sloppy work."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Great seasonal menu. Wine list is superb and it is very nice that they have two options on size of glasses of wine."

  • "Food was good (beet appetizer was fantastic). Service was terrible. My server abandoned me! He brought my appetizer, 10 minutes later he brought bread (dry). After that he NEVER came back to the table. 20 more minutes until the entree, which someone else brought. I never got the side item I ordered. No one ever came back to check on me. Finally the hostess came over and I told her I never got my side order. She said she'd take care of it. It took another 20 minutes for her to return with it. She then took my check and it took 15 minutes for someone else to come back with it. I've been to the Grape before and I do enjoy it. This time, however, even though the food was good, the service was abysmal."

  • "I have never had an appetizer of Brussels sprouts this amazing! Deep fried and crispy, yet tender, the flavors and textures were wonderful! The main courses were good, but no match for the appetizer. The duck was good, a little to fatty. Scallops were tender and perfectly cooked. Great choices of wine. Tables spaced apart give some privacy. A bit of a cavernous space. Desserts were tasty - especially the chocolate choices. Will definitely return."

  • "We had a group of 6. We had a couple cheese plates to start with, very nice selection and presentation, as well as a couple selections from the extensive wine list. They have small glasses, regular glasses, half bottles, and full bottles, quite the nice selection. They also offer quite an extensive beer list. Appetizers were good, and they had a nice selection of mains. Several people got the scallops and no one was disappointed. We had several more wines with dinner and were very pleased. Overall it was a very nice meal, and they gave us a discount on wine and cheese we bought at the retail store after dinner. A good spot for everything from quiet dining to a small party."

  • "This is one of those rare restaurants that offers inventive cuisine without making you uncertain if you will like it or not. My dining partner was late due to traffic, but the staff at the Grape treated it as if it we no problem for them at all. They even let me sample one of their reasonably priced wines while I waited. It was excellent and we ended up taking home a bottle of it so that worked out for everyone. The squash soup had some new ingredients in it too keep if from being the same old same old. The beat salad was made special with some hazelnut. Our shared entree was the house gnocchi with lamb and I don't think I have tasted better lamb. We had a trio of cheeses for dessert and were not disappointed in that choice."

  • "The first time was so enjoyable, the next we celebrated my birthday. Food is very good. We like the idea of the half plates, not so you could eat less, but so you could try more. Wine suggestions also a good idea. They don't offer a specific wine, they recommend several types, and you select the specific winery. And the half pour option goes well with the half plates. We will be back, well before my next birthday!"

  • "First time visit was fantastic! Fabulous food and choice of portion size to meet multiple person's desires. Wine pairing suggestions were helpful as well. Enjoyable and personal first time experience."

  • "This is one of our favorites. Wish the menu could change a bit more often or have a couple chef specials that are not listed. Waiter we had seemed New and not as attentive as other wait staff we have had..still...love coming here and try to come monthly."

  • "Dined here with one of my closest girl friend. We were seated immediately, which was great. Food was quite pricey (but absolutely delicious), and we enjoyed the overall ambiance/setting. There isn't too much on the menu-- I believe 6 items for appetizer, and 6 items for entree. My friend ordered the beef, and I had the full sized portion scallops (there are some items on the menu that you are able to order in half-portion, though I wouldn't recommend it-- portions are fairly small!). Food did not disappoint, and neither did their extensive list of wine. Desserts were so adorable and tasty. Only major complaint would be that our server did not meet our expectations. Only downfall is that our server was not as attentive as she could've been."

  • "An inventive menu that pops with fresh ingredients and flavors, and which changes regularly, has me going to Curious Grape every bit as much for the food as for the wine. Half size portions on many items is a big plus for me. All this in a place with a great neighborhood feeling -- nothing pretentious, never rushed."

  • "Can't go wrong with Curious. Great selection of wine, beer, and right portions of food."

  • "Once again, we enjoyed a delightful dinner at the Curious Grape! Such an interesting menu and wine list - there's always something new to try. We started with a cheese tray which paired nicely with 2 delicious Pinot Noirs. Next the sea scallops were prepared perfectly. We wrapped up with the apple pear crisp and pot au creme. A scrumptious adventure! We love the sophistication of the wines, menu and dining room which still has a comfortable neighborhood feel."

  • "I kept hearing about Curious Grape for lunch or dinner from friends whose food taste I respected. Had always thought of CG as a wine and cheese shop so, boy, was I in for a really pleasant surprise when I had some of the best food I've experienced in Shirlington Village. Will definitely return, probably again and again. Well priced, friendly, interesting menu!"

  • "I've never been disappointed with the food at Curious Grape. What does bother me is the long delay between ordering a glass of wine and receiving it. This is more than a one-time observation and does not reflect on the waitstaff but rather perhaps on who is at the bar. You should not be receiving your wine five minutes after your hot appetizer. That won't stop me from coming back again, but I may stop at the wine-tasting station before I go to my table."
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "The summary is--if the prices were about half of what they currently are and the Curious Grape only tried to be a restaurant and nothing else, this would be a fine place that would have met my expectations. As it currently is, however, it is EXTREMELY overpriced, even if the service and food were decent. Based on previous reviews and the menu (and the prices), I was expecting a subdued, classy restaurant. Instead what we got was a store/bar/restaurant with an identity crisis. Is it a niche wine store? Is it a trendy bar? Is it an upscale restaurant? The space is very strange, since the open layout tries to include all three in the same space. And the music? Chosen to entertain the staff, perhaps? Quite disappointing."
