Diner Reviews
  • "My partner David and I had dinner before going to a show at the Rialto. The food and drinks were wonderful. Our server Joe was very helpful with deciding what kind of cocktail to have before dinner. He was very pleasing to the eye too. Kudos to the Cup Café for a wonderful meal and drinks."

  • "I ordered the "Special", the steak with onion rings, asparegus spears, and garlic smashed potatoes. As usual, everything was great except the steak. The meat was so fatty, I could hardly eat a bite that did not contain a significant amount of fat. I'm a semi regular and had ordered this dish before. They must have gotten a deal on the meat but it was barely suitable for human comsumption."

  • "We selected The Cup Café because we could walk to the Fox Theater for our 7:00 show. We arrived at 5:30 p.m. The menu presented a variety of choices with tasty sounding descriptions. We decided on salads because the dessert display case led us in that directions. I had the house salad with orange slices and pecans - GREAT! My partner had a larger salad with grilled chicken. The seasoning on the chicken had a nice seasoned bite. We split the Tres Leches cake which was moist with a hint of citrus. I'm looking forward to my next visit and trying the grilled Portobello mushroom or the short ribs. This place is a repeater!"

  • "The old Congress Hotel is in a vibrant area of downtown Tucson. Friday night the street was packed with people. The restaurant has a limited seating area indoors and a large outdoor area. Our drinks were a generous size and tasty. Dinners also a large size and well prepared. Fish tacos particularity good. Carrot cake for desert very good. Be sure to check out the floor."

  • "Our party of four was new to The Cup and enjoyed it immensely. The food was excellent, as was the service. We'll be back."

  • "There was only one negative. I made our reservation online 6 days earlier and specifically asked to be seated in Greg's section but when we arrived we were told it was unavailable. After some discussion with Greg and the hostesses we were able to sit in his section after all. He and the great food made for a very good time, however, what is the point of making a reservation and specifically asking for a certain server if it isn't going to be acknowledged?"

  • "Our first visit to the Cup Cafe was a pleasant surprise. It truly lived up to it's reviews, particularly the food and service. If the weather is questionable for outdoor dining, ask for a window table. We found noise to be an issue in the inside seating area on a Friday night."

  • "We had not dined at the Cup Café in over 2 years and were pleasantly surprised at how much the restaurant had improved since our last visit. There were many and varied menu choices, both appetizers and entrees -- and they were different than the standard fare found throughout Tucson. Their fresh desserts still excel and the choices make you want to skip everything else and just eat dessert! Our appetizer and entree choices were superb and the carrot cake was one of the best we have had in Tucson. Our waiter, Greg, was one of the best we have seen in Tucson. As you can see, there were a lot of "bests". The only drawback is the extremely small dining area which elevated the noise level and makes seating a bit too close."

  • "The Cup was a pre Fox Theater find, but was disappointing. Our server had the oddest fake voice and was virtually non existent. The tables are so close together that we had a conversation with some strangers at the next table. It was very warm and humid in the restaurant. Overall, just ok. Not a likely re-do!"

  • "We are visitors to Tucson and needed a place for dinner before a jazz concert at the Fox Theater. The Cup was that and more! Service was attentive, pleasant, helpful. The menu offered interesting and varied selections, including steaks and vegan choices. We decided on dinner salads (one with steak and avocado, the other with chicken). Both were generous and delicious. We shared dessert, an enormous piece of coconut cream pie that fully lived up to the hype about the desserts here. Altogether, an unexpectedly fine meal in this historical hotel. Don't miss it!"

  • "Cup Café is a good spot for dinner before a show in downtown Tucson. People watching is fun sitting at the outdoor tables, the food was good, with a nice selection and the service came with a smile. We will definitely be back."

  • "Great spot to get together with friends and enjoy the downtown evening ambience. We can make a meal of the various starters (Mission Street Tacos and Fish Tacos are my favorites) and yet the entrees are generous, tasty and amazing. Fun selection of Arizona beers!"

  • "we had brunch here a few weeks ago (sat outside) and thought we would make reservations for Valentine's day and the special dinner menu. I ordered off the regular menu and my wife had a dinner special. Both were very good and the waitress was very accomodtaing. We sat inside and the table are limited and close together, but that adds to the charm of this place."

  • "We were delightfully surprised at the range of dishes that were offered and all really, really good. It took us quite a while to get a waiter to our table to order and to get more drinks. That was discouraging. It caused us to miss the Happy Hour prices on the drinks. The Nicoise Salad was very good, cooked to perfection. The Pork Loin Ragout was also very good and the homemade fries were some of the best I have ever had. We will definitely return. Top on our list"

  • "The food was great. We ordered the Heartbreaker, Hush Puppies, Beef Bourguignon (not as good as the rest of the meal), Sausages and Shells and Boston Cream Pie. We sat away from the kitchen, near the main entrance and overal had a great experience. Sevice was good."

  • "Everything about our dinner experience at the Cup Cafe was amazing. The Hotel Congress is the hub of a vibrant, exciting downtown, and the Cup Cafe is right there in the middle of it. From the greeting at the front to the good-byes as we left, the staff are warm and friendly and welcoming. The Ruby Trout melted in my mouth, and the others in our party likewise very much enjoyed their entree. The Cup Cafe is very popular - reservations recommended."

  • "We recently dined at the Cup Cafe with friends and as usual had a very enjoyable evening. The food and service were excellent, as usual. We take friends to the Cup regularly and have never had a bad meal or experience. It is one of our favorite places to eat in Tucson."

  • "The Cup Café at the Congress Hotel is a great mix of well executed contemporary food within an interesting, and hip historic setting. the dining room was very comfortable and the pace of the meal relaxed. the creative assortment of appetizers was particularly impressive."

  • "We've gone to The Cup Cafe twice for breakfast and I have been blown away both times. I'm not much of a breakfast person but I'd eat breakfast here any day. We've also had dinner here once and it was also very good, I've never had olive bread that I like but the slices they brought us before our main course was ready were amazing. I also love the ambiance here, the penny covered floor, the wine bottle chandelier, etc... I don't think I would come here with a big group (8+) since there aren't many big tables."

  • "The food is very good, but the desert is the BEST."

  • "We enjoyed the New York steak special, which was just a bit grisly but cooked just right...the green bean casserole in a cup was really delicious! The cocktails were very good as well. The prices were about average for an upscale type restaurant. The server was stretched a bit thin, but still the food came out in a reasonable time. Would certainly go back, and would recommend without hesitation."

  • "We had a great lunch here; I'd definitely go back. The menu was varied, making the choice difficult. I did make a reservation, but at the time we went (early lunch), it wasn't necessary."

  • "We dined on a Friday evening. The hotel lobby bar was full and had a great vibe. The restaurant was also full but our table was ready and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The bartender's first take on our martinis wasn't dry enough; sent them back, they were quickly replaced with perfect ones! I highly recommend the "Heartbreaker" appetizer - very tasty, delicious mix of favors and textures. Main courses included the Chicken & Gnocchi and the Bucatini Con Puttanesca, both were very good. This is a very cool, slightly busy place, full of interesting, happy people. Lots of fun."

  • "The Cup is a dependably good restaurant: A great place to bring visitors for some real Tucson flavor or a pleasant spot for a nice, causal bite. I stopped by on my own to sit outside and eat a wonderful plateful of fish tacos. Fantastic! And a good deal."

  • "My group had dinner after the horse carriage ride, which exceeded all that we anticipated. It was a terrific combination for charm and historic ambiance. I am a foodie, and I enjoyed the menu. Interesting, unique, and each entree lived up to it's description. Small things like the bread and herbed butter were excellent. The cappuccino was the best I can remember having … ever. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and very efficient. I will invite more friends for the carriage ride and a meal. Any out of town visitors will have this outing as their first experience in Tucson."

  • "I just LOVE Cup Cafe. Being in an historic hotel with loads of character makes it instantly memorable, but the food is consistently great, and we have never had anything but a wonderful, friendly server who seems to truly enjoy working there. Because the space is limited, it is noisier than some, but this is a favorite for both my husband and myself. Delicious, fun, and friendly. Win win win."

  • "My friend who is an annual visitor to Tucson hadn't been downtown before. We decided to sit indoors next to a big window (which had water marks on it). We started with a nice, spicy bloody mary & one of their specialty drinks, Dusk in the Desert, which my friend liked. We both had a cup of the soup of the day, the red pepper cream soup which was piping hot and very tasty, but less than a minute after we got our soup, our entrees arrived. I had the pricey, but delicious, jalepeno & cheese tamales. My friend had the New York Strip with chili glaze steak special, and that was quite flavorful. For dessert, we split the last slice of coconut cream pie which was also good but also expensive. Our waitress could have checked on us more often."

  • "Make sure you are not seated near the kitchen. We were in the middle of the waitresses' kitchen route. A few times they even bumped into us. It was super noisy and very uncomfortable! To squeeze an extra table and make a few extra bucks, they will make some folks pretty unhappy."

  • "I would have the most fabulous meal at this little place in the quaint old hotel. I had the trout, not only was it delicious the presentation was perfect with just the right side dishes and amounts. I didn't leave feeling over full, just right kind of like Goldie Locks. I will definitely be back."

  • "Hadn't been here for years. Happily surprised with many new excellent menu items. Especially enjoyed the portobello mushroom vegetarian entree and the chiken entree. Large selection of good beers and wines. Key lime pie was divine. Would pass on the chocolate cup dessert."

  • "We made reservations here because their website said they served dinner at 4 pm. We had an event at 5 so this would work fine for us. We were seated by 4 and started to order off the dinner menu and the waitress said they did not serve the dinner items until 5. Dinner is at 4 but you don't serve the dinner items until 5!! Very poor managment at this establishment. On a positive note the waitress was friendly and efficient. We ended up order something from the appetizer menu. We will not go back, just an overall poor experience."
