A word from The Crossing
Featuring local "farm to table" food using a breadth of farmer in the Missouri and Illinois communities. When asked to define of The Crossing, Owner/Executive Chef Jim Fiala often says that he is a chef that buys locally whenever possible and cooks as any French and/or Italian chef would given the ingredients sourced. Joining Jim is Chef Michael Craig who brings a wealth of passion to the kitchen. Our food is fresh, organic (whenever possible), seasonal and by design very simple. The Crossing stays true to classic techniques and the chefs love showing off their skills and passion for elegant food.Continued

None of us had been before so I was a little nervous because we eat out a lot just for fun and I was hoping for something that would be special and better than average. The Crossing definitely did not fail to impress! We all had the Chefs Tasting Menu and the food was absolutely delish. Our server Gus helped us with our selections and was very knowledgeable about the wine list, food, and preparations, and gave us a detail on a huge variety of dishes that were served. Come prepared to spend some money so that you are able to fully enjoy what the restaurant has to offer to the full extent. It is well worth it!"

  • "My wife and I went to The Crossing for our wedding anniversary dinner. The food and service were outstanding. We enjoyed one of their tasting menu options which allowed us to sample a bit more of The Crossing's menu without eating too much or spending too much. The roasted beet salad, foie gras, scallops, tuna and tenderloin were all excellent as were the desserts. The restaurant setting is not as elegant as the food but is interesting for a first visit. We found the price to be quite reasonable for the quality of the food. The one negative for us was the group of 6 people sitting next to us that were extremely loud and seemed to get more so as the evening progressed. We will return!"

The wine list is heavy with Italian and French offerings while a bit light on American labels. The menu is creative and preparation is consistently top notch. One of my favorites."

  • "We are regulars at the Crossing because it never disappoints. The food is always excellent. This time I had the lamb sweetbread appetizer and they were amazing. My wife's foie gras appetizer was equally marvelous. My pork chop entre accompanied by sautéed arugula and mushrooms with mashed potatoes (the night's special) was just as good at the sweetbreads. The wine list is better that most any restaurant in Saint Louis."

  • "The experience and food are consistent and very good. We have a great server we prefer but the whole staff is very friendly and always makes us comfortable, even when we bring our son. I would recommend the entire menu but the homemade pastas are among the best. The duck, quail and fish dishes are great but I would strongly recommend the tasting menu to get appropriate portion sizes with variation in flavors."

  • "I was shocked when I entered the restaurant, it was very musty smelling and looked just ok. Started off great, Had the Beet Salad - yummy. Had the Poached Snapper it was overcooked or something, fish was rubbery, just ok but very disappointed (told waiter). The staff really seemed to be working very hard, appeared there were understaffed (valet helped waiters serve, clear etc.) I was under-whelmed with the food."

  • "This is a great place to celebrate friends and family and to impress clients. I think it is romantic, especially the cozy booths for two near the bar. The service is flawless, a relaxed but attentive pace that you don't find everywhere. The food is great; try the tasting menus to be able to taste as many dishes as you can. You will not be disappointed. The pasta, made in house, is consistently good no matter how it is prepared. The egg raviolo is one of my favorites. "

  • "Lovely locale and excellent service but way overpriced for the meal, especially the entrees. Example: unexceptional tuna over marginally warm potatoes was wholly unremarkable yet cost $40. Varied wine menu but a thousand percent mark up definitely not worth the prices. Best thing was the service--effective and friendly. Lastly, looks like a quiet dining spot but the room noise was extraordinary making conversation with a table of 5 rather difficult. Look elsewhere for less expensive dining experience."

  • "There were four of us in our group and we all enjoyed our entree. We all had the prix fixe meal which was a good value. After we all had our dessert, one of us asked the waiter as to what is the favorite dessert. We had had 4 different desserts but we hadn't had the favorite. As we were finishing our drinks the waiter brought us the favorite dessert which was the chocolate tort. It was a very enjoyable evening."

  • "We really enjoyed our recent visit and can't quite figure out why we don't go more often. I think that will have to change. From good drinks at the bar from a skilled barman to excellent service at our table, the service was always warm, informational and there when you needed without hovering. Each dish was great and, with fresh morels in season, the pasta that evening was superb. Lamb loin and lamb sweetbreads over faro was another great dish. We will need to keep the Crossing more front of mind. "

  • "First time diners at The Crossing. Loved the free valet parking. Greeted promptly and guided to our table efficiently. Staff was always friendly, smiled, and no one ever said "that isn't my job, I'll get your waitress." Owner did not stop at our table. Waitress didn't seem to be talkative or willing to engage in conversation beyond taking order and delivering food. But we thought she was responsive when asked a question. We did not drink any wine, our preference. Food tastings were a fun way to keep things interesting, plus best value $$. Enjoyable. Just the right amount. Everything tasted as if it were a bit over salted. Pork loin was tough."

Service was very good , but we both felt rushed as the courses came without much of a break - just finished one the other was on it's way. This was a special occasion to celebrate my wife's birthday -which we indicated when we booked the reservation and there was no recognition by the restaurant. Our table was ok - but cramped by a large table with a group of 10 other diners and I faced the kitchen door - not the best ambiance for the prices. "
