A word from The Cottage Wellesley
The Cottage Wellesley has it’s origin in two different lifestyles. John grew up surfing the beaches of Southern California. Laura grew up in Wellesley and is the third generation in her family to have a business in town. Our decor, service and food reflect the casualness and familiarity of So Calif and the sophistication and warmth of New England. Please take a moment to say hello on your next visit. Diner Reviews
  • "Very responsive to gluten free requirement with a special full course menu. Able to order anything an d assured it is prepared gluten free"

  • "It's unfortunate this restaurant is declining in quality. Their food used to be much better. I will not be going back any soon. It used to be one of our favorite in the area. We will go back May be in a year."

  • "We had a lovely lunch in the light-filled dining area. Service was attentive--they even responded graciously to my request to turn the air conditioning down. Food was beautifully presented and generous."

  • "The Cottage always satisfies. The menu is varied "California" style - so healthy with some lighter "comfort food" items. There's something to appeal to every taste. Service was pleasant. The large room can get loud but not so this time on our Sunday night in the summer visit."

  • "The menu and the service were just right for getting together with a friend on a hot summer evening. The lobster Cobb salad was a perfect choice and an excellent value."

  • "The Cottage has consistently good food. My favorite is the goat cheese chicken salad with walnuts."

  • "Excellent soup and salad. the appetizers were generous sized portions. good service."

  • "This was my second visit to The Cottage. Both were for special occasions. Both with the same result, great food and good service. This time was for my son's birthday -- who is a true "foodie." He loved it. Everything was delicious from beginning to end. Will be back soon."

  • "We've been to this restaurant several times, and always pleased. However, the food was only so-so this past Saturday evening, so we were a bit disappointed."

  • "I've always loved the cottage's fresh food + atmosphere and that it is not a chain. Over the years their small, but noticed changes are putting the cottage further down on my list. First they changed their fantastic bread to their now standard generic rolls, then their prices increased, the portions decreased, and now the quality of their dishes are slowly declining. My lunch entree 'chopped' salad was a large handful of tired greens- had so little cheese I didn't even know it was there, 2 spears of asparagus (one of the highlighted veggies) and not too much more to offset the inflated price tag. I got it 'with chicken', which was also chopped- and seriously about 2oz worth- about a quarter cup- not worth the extra $6 in the least. Sad."

  • "We think eating at The Cottage is a delightful experience. The food is consistently tasty and the service is always personable and helpful."

  • "My daughter & I ordered short ribs on stir fry noodles. It was horrible. Rib was small & too fatty; stir fry much too greasy. This isn't a $25 dinner. I should have sent it back but that bothers my daughter."

  • "Perfect place for a work lunch, and I'm sure it fits all the other marks.... thanks for a great experience."

  • "Great service, great atmosphere, great food.....nothing that was not really good"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "We dine at the Cottage at least three times a month.....although it can be a bite noisy, we usually can carry on a conversation with no problem. The food is consistent, & the wait staff always happy & helpful. Never feel rushed there."

  • "Decided to switch it up and just go with starters for a casual night. The Cottage Nachos are unreal. Definitely get them if you want some great comfort food. We love the Cottage and have nothing but great things to say. It's a date night staple for us. Cheers!"

  • "This was my second time and had an even better experience. The service was amazing the food was wonderful and I love the vibe of the place."

  • "Noise level will keep me from returning. Food very good but can't be enjoyed because of the noise. Not a place to visit with friends as you can not hear yourself think. Very sad"

  • "This was our first brunch at The Cottage; had previously enjoyed dinner on 2 or 3 occasions. The brunch menu is fairly extensive, and should satisfy all tastes and inclinations. The service was excellent. My daughter and I were pleased with the "make your own" frittata and omlette; husband and son loved the crab cake with poached egg on top. The restaurant was not too busy at 10:30, which was good. The only "down side" to this restaurant is that the noise level can be loud when the place is full. We will return again for brunch to sample other items."

  • "Whoever plays host at the front of this restaurant always tries to overplay the busyness of this so-so eatery, even when it's obvious there are more empty tables than full tables. It's okay for a burger and fries if you like pretentiousness."

  • "The duck was horrible. The waitress was fantastic."

  • "I can always recommend the Cottage for great food and a comfortable, fun atmosphere... The wine list is decent, theres lots of healthy tasty appetizers and entrees and there is a nice outdoor dining area for an al fresco meal."

  • "I'm a gluten free diner, a foodie, and a mom, so finding this place to be so accomodating and delicious was simply amazing. We have gone here for two dinners with my family, and we will be back again soon!"

  • "The service and food at The Cottage in Wellesley MA couldn't have been better. We had a charming and engaging server and the food was excellent for brunch. This was the Sunday of Wellesley College reunion weekend so there were lots of big groups, but everything was delightful."

  • "We discovered the Cottage several years ago since it was convenient to meet my daughter after her nearby work for dinner when I drove up from CT for a quick visit and dinner. We also have enjoyed the Chestnut Hill location as a family since it is close to where both daughters live. While I have often found the menu somewhat small, I have always had a good meal in a lovely, brigh,t cheery atmosphere with very good service. This birthday celebration was no different and I was thrilled to see many new additions to their menu! All four of our meals were very good to excellent, drinks were interesting and tasty and service attentive and friendly! I really enjoy The Cottage!"

  • "My wife is from La Jolla and went to the original cottage many times growing up. We so want to like this place -- we've now gone at least 5 times -- but are consistently disappointed. The food is mediocre and overpriced, the service uneven, and there is rarely a time I've gone -- brunch, lunch or dinner -- when there hasn't been something wrong (food cold, undercooked, overcooked, entrees brought out at different times, etc). What makes it more galling is the prices, which are 50% higher than similar places, though I'd happily pay if it was consistently good. There are few other places in Wellesley, the environment is nice, and it is kid friendly, which explains why (in addition to hope and nostalgia) we kept going back. Never again."

  • "We sat outside which was delightful. The food was OK but not great. I had an omelet that stated it contained grilled chicken but it was just tiny pieces of chicken, not grilled."
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "This is our Sunday lunch spot. Food is consistently delicious, service is pleasant, and the vibe is good. We've started making reservations even for lunch because it's always so busy. The outdoor seating is perfect now that summer is here!"

  • "Patio dining is always great here. One of the few places in Boston that understand people actually enjoy eating outdoors."

  • "For a restaurant with a comforting name like "The Cottage", one would expect a warm environment that takes you away. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not even deliver the universally-expected friendly service. Servers were noticeably stressed and rather inadaptable: one rolled her eyes as elderly male passed by the walkway, my server patronized me when I asked for an adaption to my salad (dismissing my request by saying that I was only adding to a particular salad, which was not the case; furthermore, "Mr. Know-It-All" still brought me that salad while incorrectly keeping my dressing on the side). My salmon was fishy, they had a terrible wine list with $8 bottles up-charged to $40, and though this is obvious, my time was poor all around."

  • "it seems that the sides and entrees have gotten smaller in the past year or so. For the price they should at least fill up the plate with the veggies or starch. "

  • "Six of us got together for an early dinner. We sat in a large comfortable booth. The service was great. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The crab cake appetizers were crunchy on the outside with tender lump crab in the center. The chicken soup was flavorful with small pieces of breast meat. The fish and chip were great; the hamburger and lamb burger were enjoyed as well as the chicken picata. We topped it off with the raspberry bread pudding with fresh whipped cream...I highly recommend the Cottage."

  • "We had the crab cake appetizers which were recommended to us and which were great. The grilled vegetable salad and mahi tacos were also very good. Service was friendly and efficient and the prices were reasonable. It was a great choice for a holiday weekend dinner. "

  • "Excellent food all around. No need to go into Boston as you can get it here."

  • "I had the salmon and my friend had the brick chicken. The food was good but lacked a visual appeal, especially the chicken. I didn't want one of the veggies and nothing was offered in it's place. The portion of the chicken was very small. The food was tasty."
