Diner Reviews
  • "we were informed there was a new chef which was bittersweet news. We'd come to rely on the Corner Door as a go-to favorite w/ great food & drinks. We ordered some old & new menu items..mussels, wings, flank steak, potatoes, brussel sprouts & lamb kabobs. Regretfully, the quality has gone from a "10" to a "2". Mussels were so overdone they almost had disappeared, the pasta & delicious broth gone, wings were dry and tasteless, smothered in sauce in a desperate attempt at flavor, flank steak so salty almost inedible as w/ the sprouts. The drinks were still good. No wonder we were the only table seated w/everyone else at the bar stools. Lamb was so dry, the tahini sauce was there only to keep you from choking. We won't be back...sad."

  • "It was a little noisy for my friend and I, but the food more than made up for it! The delicate dish of kampachi crudo held four delicious bites, and just enough sauce left over that we considered licking out the bowl. The flavors were just zingy! Peaches and pecorino could have shined in the tasty grilled cheese, had the peaches been a tiny bit more ripe. There were four portions of roasted tomato in an interesting mix of a wedge of a beefsteak, a couple of roasted grape toms, and a tiny tart green. They were bonded with cool goat cheese and a tiny slice of baguette. I don't remember the dandelion. The lamb kibbeh kebabs came with six pieces. The fresh dill fronds really had a great aftertaste to the hearty lamb."

  • "Nice bar, they even knew how to make a negroni! My food, when it finally arrived was very good, but it was so loud that I found it hard to enjoy."

  • "The food was very nicely presented, very tasty and also good size portions. One of the best meals I have had in years."

  • "A friend and I went on a week night. The restaurant is headache-noisy. Conversation caused a sore throat. The fried chicken I ordered, highly recommended by our waitress, was tasteless. Salt didn't help. Potatoes were cold. My friend liked her roasted chicken dish. Drinks were fine. The waitress was just lovely, smiling and lighting up the room, and the management didn't charge for my drink when I returned most of my chicken platter. So, it's a mixed bag. If you want to have a nice drink and order appetizers and not talk to companions unless you're yelling, it's a good neighborhood corner bar. Intimate? No! If I were to go back, I'd order differently. • "Excellent food and drinks! Beau is a master mixer and the chef is a hidden gem. Love this place and very happy to have it in my neighborhood."

  • "the service was great. So many restaurants get carried away with themselves. This was good service, good food. a place you'd return to again and again."

  • "Wonderful neighborhood find with great food & beverages. The chef is incredible."

  • "The food was FANTASTIC. Everything we had was amazing except for an obscenely spicy chocolate sauce that the (just OK) beignets came with. Luckily they took that off the bill which was wonderful and unexpected. I was very impressed with Corner Door and will definitely we back!"

  • "The friends we were meeting for dinner were running late. They were driving down from Yosemite and traffic had been heavier than expected. Our waitress was very understanding and quite nice. When our friends did arrive, our waitress offered to make changes to some of the dishes to accomodate our friends two young daughters. The service was prompt and pleasant. Food came out quickly and everything was excellent."

  • "I met a friend here for dinner. Our waiter kind of gave us a little scoff when we asked if we could still order from the happy hour menu. Super rude and unprofessional. That being said, we each order a grilled cheese and they were excellent. The beignets with spicy chocolate dipping sauce we shared were good too. The place was super crowded to the point where people at the bar were bumping into my chair and I had trouble getting back into my seat after going to the restroom. My friend who frequents this place said that it was unusually busy that night. Tip: Make sure you are getting directions to Washington BLVD. I used the address from my opentable reservation confirmation and it sent me to Washington Pl."

  • "Amazing menu. Food and drinks are both outstanding. It gets pretty busy and very loud during peak hours. Make a reservation to secure your seating, especially if you have a group larger than 2. Street parking is free and easy to find."

  • "I really enjoyed my experience here both for food and service. The price is reasonable and I had a great time trying different things they had to offer. This restaurant was rated as one of the "underrated restaurants" this year. I completely agree. Maybe they don't have a celebrity chef to bring in the crowd but I like it that way in that they are much more about food rather than press!"

  • "Ate here for DineLA. Loved the food, which was inventive and delicious and just enough to share between two people without being overly full afterwards. Shared the jicama tacos, which were a great light bite to start the meal, the beet salad, which had fantastic flavors and then the grilled cheese, which was a generous portion and finished with the polenta. The polenta had this great almost marsala tasting sauce that came with it. Finished with the beignets and the milk and cookies, both deserts were excellent. The spicy chocolate dipping sauce was SPICY and amazing. The service was attentive, the food came out quickly, everything was really delightful. Drinks were typical LA prices, $9 for a #selfie cocktail, sweet and refreshing."

  • "I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled share this horrible experience as a public service. Our food came out at such a furious pace the plates literally would not fit on our table. When we asked if they could please slow things down, an incredibly rude staff member barked "I don't control what happens in the kitchen!" and admonished us for not knowing their "family style" food would come out all at once. Our server also gave us attitude and we knew it was time to leave. They still charged us for the one dish we had time to try, among most vile culinary cacophonies we have ever had the displeasure to eat, and glass of wine my wife only had time to take a sip of. They do not seem to care at all about their customers."

  • "I have been here a couple times now and it never disappoints. The Brussel sprouts may be the best I have ever had and the mussels are incredible. You really can't go wrong with the food. As for drinks, do a cocktail or beer, the wine selection is not the best. Other than that, I love everything about this place!"

  • "We celebrated with delicious food and drink at The Corner Door. Our server was delightful and the other wait staff were courteous and responsive. Energetic is definitely a euphemism for loud.. The polenta was so fluffy and wonderfully seasoned. The brussel sprouts are always heavenly. It is amazing what a little orange and chili can do to broccolini. With five people we sampled the menu though the Dine LA selections. Oh, and thanks for being in Culver City!!"

  • "We learned about this place from Opentable and can't wait to go back. Everything that you could want a small neighborhood place (this is NOT part of Culver City's restaurant row, but on an otherwise nondescript block)--cool vibe, great food, friendly staff, exceptional cocktails. Try the Brussel sprouts-you won't regret it!"

  • "Great food and especially great cocktails. Service at the bar was good, especially despite the busy crowd. However, once we got say our table service wasnt as good. Friendly but very slow and didnt check in with us much and when we asked for add ons like more sauce it took a long time. The cookies and milk are one of their best desserts but ours was served with a tiny dollop of ice cream so we asked for a little bit more. They charged us $5 for I've cream on top of the $8 dessert price. $13 was not worth it in my opinion. Overall I really like this place though. Cool ambiance, great energy, fun menu (mussels are great and so is the broccolini). I'd come back and just hope for more attentive service next time."

  • "My girlfriend and I had visited The Corner Door three previous times and it was a pretty great experience. The food was creative and amazing and the service was excellent. This visit, we ordered many of the same dishes and they were completely different in presentation, taste and quality of preparedness. It's like there was a new chef who was trying -- and failing -- to replicate his or her predecessor. Really not good. We're wondering if we'll go back. Not worth it at all. It's already a noisy place, but the food and the service helped make up for it. But something happened..."

  • "Loved the happy hour plates and drinks, but too noisy for conversation. The table next to us had loud, screaming laughter every two seconds. Not good for those of us with slight hearing loss who are trying to converse."

  • "At what restaurant does a well done hamburger take less time to cook than a rare piece of salmon? At the Corner Door. The kitchen at Corner Door is run by amateurs and needs to made far more efficient than it is. While management ponders that, they should also consider installing some acoustic dampening as it is impossible to carry on a conversation with a table mate. So, if you’re going for mediocre food that’s not served properly in an atmosphere that’s more club like than collegial - go the Corner Door. If you’d like a decent dinner in a quiet space, go to any of the other fine Culver City restaurants."

  • "I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO REVISIT THIS PLACE - THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT NEED MY EARS TO ENJOY IT. THE NOISE LEVEL WAS SO INTENSE THAT MY (AND MY THREE CO-DINERS) EARS WERE ACTUALLY RINGING FOR 15 MINUTES AFTER LEAVING. SO BAD IN FACT, WE HAD TO GO OVER TO WATERLOO AND CITY FOR DESERT. TOO BAD!"

  • "Great drinks menu - the chunks of ice are great in the drinks- and drinks are very good, though small in size. Limited but very well-prepared and tasty menu. We ordered lots of apps to share and all were very very good. Cool urban feel with a lively atmosphere - but still able to hear your dinner companion. Fun place and priced exactly right for what it is."

  • "The food was really good, they had a spot for 5 people last minute, drinks are great. What more can you ask for. Its really loud here, but that is how all of these places seem to be. The waiter took a lot of care in describing everything on the menu, I will definitely consider coming back!"

  • "The corner door is a great little gem...local, intimate, accessible, great cocktails and extremely nice servers. We default here if we can't decide where to eat, the changing menu being small but providing a good array of choices. These are not cheesecake factory/C&O sized portions. Small, but well conceived and tasty. Waterloo & City will still be The Crest House atmosphere for us locals...A frame is still IHOP, but I'm glad for their existence to bring some good businesses to the area where yuppie foodies abound. A little something for everyone. But corner door is our favorite of that trio."

  • "My boyfriend and I are so happy that this restaurant came in down the street from our house, it is a favorite of ours. We took my brother and his girlfriend here for a birthday dinner and the food was perfect. It was a very busy Sunday night...my guess they have an extra bump in business now that they have TVs at the bar. Which were not loud and didn't cause too much of an issue...but I think I liked the restaurant better without them. Our server was slammed, but the food was perfect the drinks were great. Another great dinner at corner door."

  • "I've given Corner Door three chances now and I won't be coming back, which is a shame because I can walk to it from my house. They need to come down off their craft-cocktail high horse. The bartenders (sorry: mixologist or cocktails craftsmen or whatever) are super pretentious. Ridiculous names, smug attitude, ingredients like cinnamon smoke, a fetish-y approach to ice cubes--it's like the worst of Brooklyn 2011. Small plates with hilariously small portions--three jicama tacos that cannot amount to more than 2 oz of food--come out when the kitchen says so, so you end up with four or five dishes at once getting cold. Ridiculous and insulting and way too expensive, even if the food is good. Not worth it. Go to The Wood down the street."

  • "The burgers are fine but no match for Upper West or The Nook. The beef burger (cranberry/red onion jam, pecorino, bone marrow mayo) is tastier than the chicken burger, which is mealy-mushy. The grilled cheese (peaches, wasabi arugula) is fun but no equal to Greenspan's at The Foundry. The roasted brussel sprouts are addictive. Nice beer selection. Signature cocktails have unique combos. Desserts are marginal (red velvet twinkies were dry; chocolate paloma was ok). Wait staff is great. Chef Luke Reyes (who opened the place a year ago and won CHOPPED earlier this year) is gone, replaced by Kyle Schutte who added his own spin to a few menu items and swapped out the rest. Since they've only been open a year, I think it will grow more seasoned."

  • "This is our favorite Choi spot to date. The Burrata dish is crazy good, how they make those marinated cherries pair so perfectly is beyond me. They also maintain a solid beer selection."

  • "Food is nothing special. Brussell sprouts and Paloma dessert were good; everything else (meatballs, pasta, fish) was average. Small portions for Restaurant Week. Attentive & friendly service. Good drinks."

  • "The food here was surprisingly refreshing in an innovative way. I recommend all foodies come try it out. The pricing is appropriate for what you get to experience. And the service was absolutely FANTASTIC. Superbly friendly and professional staff that were honest and informative. I will DEFINITELY be coming back here again."

  • "We were lucky to try The Corner Door for the first time during L.A. Restaurant Week. The timing was perfect to start my birthday celebrations and we got a table through Open Table. Our server was Pat and he was spot on with thoughtful attention, good humor and recommendations. Our 3-course dinner (varied with different dishes for each of the three of us) was delicious - Burrata with asparagus, peas and cherries, steamed mussels, grilled cheese with wasabi arugula, meatballs with pickled onions - all were devoured. Red Velvet Twinkies, Chocolate Chip Cookies with Ice Cream and the incredible Chocolate Paloma finished a great meal. I'll be back often."
