A word from The Copenhagen
Specializing in both classic and inventive Nordic food and cocktails, The Copenhagen is as close to Denmark as one can get without crossing the Atlantic. The distinctly Danish atmosphere features modern Scandinavian design washed in natural light from the floor to ceiling windows. Candlelight flickers throughout the elegant, city-lit dining room in the evenings.

I kind of wish there were more gluten free options, but the chef was pretty accommodating with the available food. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful, and the food was pretty tasty. The ambiance is quiet and very good if you want to be able to have a conversation with your party.

Excellent food, for the most part. My only disappointment was the overly sweet yet somehow flavorless Marzipan Cake for dessert. Pork shoulder was fantastic.

My Danish girlfriend and I ate here Saturday night. Every single dish was delicious, from the crusty bread paired with an interesting smoky cheese spread to my lipsmackingly good pork liver pate to a perfectly seasoned and cooked flank steak to a chocolate and caramel-laced cream dessert. My GF was (almost) as impressed with her smoked salmon starter, pork shoulder entree and marzipan cake. All for $40 per person plus drinks: a fantastic cocktail concocted from beet aquavit and licorice and a cheap carafe of good house red. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive. The only "flaw" is The Copenhagen's off-the-beaten-track location near the Holland Tunnel - which I hope it is able to overcome because I want to return again and again.

I had never heard of this place and went with a friend that suggested it. The menu is incredibly simple with just a few options for each course. I liked the interesting and creative ingredients used to prepare the dishes as they created quite the fusion of taste. We had the Beef Tartare (the berries really set this off), the Pork Belly and the Arctic Cod. All were prepared perfectly. They also had an interesting wine/beer selection (Hild Sekt and Falco IPA were nice finds). Including drinks/tax the meal was less than $90 which seemed reasonable to me for the quality of the meal and the service (Kudos to Breana on her first night). Be sure to make a reservation as the restaurant is small.

Amazingly well prepared food and soo fresh. We were blown by the quality and the idea surrounding the final dish. We ordered the scallop appetizer and it was like no dish we had tasted before...so yummy by the cleanses. The pork pate was fantastic and well more pork in the form of pork belly and nicely balanced with very fresh French beans. Overall, a wonderful foodie experience.

I had the Market Fish which was skate with eggplant, fennel & hen of the woods mushrooms and topped with thin, crisp strips of eggplant skin that added texture-this was an unusual and delicious entree. My husband had two appetizers, gravlax-outstanding and beef tartare - quite good. For dessert, we shared the marzipan cake with rhubarb & strawberry. The menu is limtied but what they have is creative and very good.

From the soaring ceilings and clean, Scandinavian design lines to the beautiful, bijou open face sandwiches, the restaurant is perfection. Cecilia was efficient, friendly, helpful - and spot on - with suggestions for our meal and justifiably proud of both the restaurant and Denmark. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent.....and the bread was phenomenal! however, the portions were miniscule! For example, the scallop appetizer was 1 scallop; the tartare portion was not much bigger than the size of a quarter! The entrees were not much better! My husband and I are not big eaters usually able to share an entre, 1 salad and 1 appetizer. This was not the case here and we ate everything....2 appetizers and 2 entrees! We stopped for a slice of pizza on the way home! Great tasting as a tasting menu!

Food was very good but portions were very small. Appetizer of seared scallop had one scallop. Fish portion of main entree was about 2-2 1/2 ozs. Not sure if this is usual as we had a Groupon. Also, they charged us $5 extra for more bread. Dessert of marzipan cake was 2 very small cupcakes with sauce and just ordinary. Service was very good, ambience was pleasant but not crowded when we went at 6pm.

  • Uneatable strange food

I am Scandinavian & this was the worst food I have ever had in my life. Very strange combinations & ridiculously small portions (for example 1 scallop on a plate, 1/2 a piece of smoked salmon on a plate). They're trying too hard to be interesting & combine things that don't go together in miniature portions. The tastes of pretty much everything but the bread & the coffee (delicious) made me nauseous. The desserts were so sour that we ended up leaving all of them. The lamb appetizer looked like hospital food. I don't remember eating anything so strange tasting when I was in the city of Copenhagen so I was very surprised and disappointment. The space's nice though, service good, fun neighborhood so maybe we'll be back for coffee & bread ONLY!

I've discovered "The Copenhagen " recently and it's become my "go-to" for Scandinavian cuisine. The service is friendly, the atmosphere serene, clean, and simple. The cuisine itself is rich in flavors, I was never a fan of pickled herring till I dined here. I highly rec. it if you're looking for something off the beaten path. The aquavit selection is great, price affordable, and ambiance mature.

Been 4 or 5 times, and the cuisine never disappoints: very clean, beautifully plated food with a distinct Scandinavian touch. The four course dinner -- while now more expensive at $50/pp -- is still a very good deal. Love the room, the fact that one can have a conversation. The only negative was the pleasant but "not ready for prime time" service (NOT an issue in past visits): forgetting to give us dinner menus and letting us sit for 20 minutes; removing plates from two of us who had finished while our dinner companions were still eating; not "introducing" each dish when brought to the table; not inquiring whether we wanted more bread or butter. Given the quality of the food and the price point, the service component needs to addressed.

Been here a couple of times and always fall to ordering same dish (charred wild spring onion) as part of usual sharing melange. Pleasant surprise to the subtle changes but overall wonderful flavor. Aquavit flight is fantastic way to start or end the evening. Bread basket is out of this world. Take a date, go with friends, great place to talk and be steps away from the city streets. Everything seems to be all thought out, casual elegant yet refined.

I loved going to the Copenhagen for lunch. The Frikadeller is to DIE for and it is served with tasty remoulade. The pickled herring in curry sauce is also delicious and all the food is presented so beautifully. It feels really authentic yet modern. Don't leave the restaurant without having the marzipan cake! It's so light yet completely filling :) I would highly recommend this restaurant.

food was very good but the portions were for liliputians. dinner time seems to be dedicated to a competition with noma in copenhagen. noma wins. choices were extremely limited. my friend had the duck which, while tasty, was presented in an unappetizing slab of grey breast - looked like a sausage when first viewed on the plate. i had the branzino which, while tasty, was a miniscule portion. not sure if the portion sizes were because we had a groupon. however, other reviews i have read seem to indicate that this is the normal size so, whatever.

There is a misconception of Scandinavian cuisine among Americans - it is more than just dill, fish, and potatoes. The Copenhagen is a perfection example of modern Danish cooking: it's inventive, exciting, and refined. We did the chef's 6 course tasting menu and each dish was better than the next. The Copenhagen has been added to my list of "must go to" restaurants in Manhattan and I cannot wait to go again. This is gem in the Tribeca food scene.

My wife and I dined at this The Copenhagen for her birthday. I wanted to take her someplace outside my comfort zone, where we've never been before, and I am so glad I chose this place. Coming from an eastern European country, where the portions are extremely large, my first impression was that they are too small. However, soon I realized that they are perfectly sized. The food was very delicious, nicely composed. I liked the artsy decor, the music was not loud at all. Overall, we simply loved it.

Brunched on a Sunday with a friend and had a great meal. Waffles with maple butter, poached eggs, and bread basket - everything was amazing and full of flavor - portions were not that big, but we left satisfied instead of stuffed, which was a nice change for an "after brunch" feeling and made strolling through nearby SoHo & TriBeCa much easier. The spot is bright with lots of natural light (there really is no "bad" seat or table) and clean decor - very Danish, with kitchenware by Bodum. The location in the city is convenient, though the view from the huge windows is not that inspiring - gritty Chinatown. Overall, really enjoyed my meal and planning to go back again to try some aquavit and smørrebrød!

I am very pleased that we discovered Aamann's and would highly recommend it. Firstly, the bread is the best I have eaten in a restaurant, I have to restrain myself every time and I wish they would sell it (they don't). The plates are small, beautifully composed visually and taste-wise. In my opinion, the menu is small (for dinner) but provides a wonderful variety; I particularly enjoyed the tartare, whatever cured fish they have, roasted duck and pork neck. The cheeses are not just a slices of cheese with bread; they are composed with interesting ingredients that round out the cheesiness. I would recommend finishing your dinner experience with at least 2 of these. I can't comment on the desserts as we usually stop after the cheese course.
