  • "There is a misconception of Scandinavian cuisine among Americans - it is more than just dill, fish, and potatoes. The Copenhagen is a perfection example of modern Danish cooking: it's inventive, exciting, and refined. We did the chef's 6 course tasting menu and each dish was better than the next. The Copenhagen has been added to my list of "must go to" restaurants in Manhattan and I cannot wait to go again. This is gem in the Tribeca food scene."

  • "My wife and I dined at this The Copenhagen for her birthday. I wanted to take her someplace outside my comfort zone, where we've never been before, and I am so glad I chose this place. Coming from an eastern European country, where the portions are extremely large, my first impression was that they are too small. However, soon I realized that they are perfectly sized. The food was very delicious, nicely composed. I liked the artsy decor, the music was not loud at all. Overall, we simply loved it."

  • "Brunched on a Sunday with a friend and had a great meal. Waffles with maple butter, poached eggs, and bread basket - everything was amazing and full of flavor - portions were not that big, but we left satisfied instead of stuffed, which was a nice change for an "after brunch" feeling and made strolling through nearby SoHo & TriBeCa much easier. The spot is bright with lots of natural light (there really is no "bad" seat or table) and clean decor - very Danish, with kitchenware by Bodum. The location in the city is convenient, though the view from the huge windows is not that inspiring - gritty Chinatown. Overall, really enjoyed my meal and planning to go back again to try some aquavit and smørrebrød!"

  • "I am very pleased that we discovered Aamann's and would highly recommend it. Firstly, the bread is the best I have eaten in a restaurant, I have to restrain myself every time and I wish they would sell it (they don't). The plates are small, beautifully composed visually and taste-wise. In my opinion, the menu is small (for dinner) but provides a wonderful variety; I particularly enjoyed the tartare, whatever cured fish they have, roasted duck and pork neck. The cheeses are not just a slices of cheese with bread; they are composed with interesting ingredients that round out the cheesiness. I would recommend finishing your dinner experience with at least 2 of these. I can't comment on the desserts as we usually stop after the cheese course."

  • "Aamans have managed to bring all of the bad things from Copenhagen (high prices, dull atmosphere, too few waiters, terribly small portions and surcharge on things like coffee refills or needing more than one slice of white bread with your brunch) but few of the good things. The Mrs. and I showed up to spend several hours eating and drinking, but ended up leaving 30 minutes later with an empty feeling and pocket. $100 for mediocre brunch for two including one beer and one snaps was not what we were looking for. As much as we miss Denmark this is not the place which we will go back to to reminiscence."

It was also awesome. And then, just as we were finishing up, who should walk in but Leonardo Dicaprio. Well, at least I didn't have to make conversation any more..."

  • "Nice to hear Danish as soon as we entered. Restaurant not crowded on Wednesday evening. Uncommon menu items for New York, such as cured cod, were executed uniquely and with welcome complexity. Service was attentive though unpolished. Staff friendly and engaging. I would add at least one Danish beer to the restaurant, if I could make one improvement. Main courses smaller than typical for nordic restaurants, but delicious all the same. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would eat here often."

  • "Aamanns-Copenhagen is a true find: a clean, delicious cuisine, beautifully plated (but not overly fussy). Tucked away at the edge of Tribeca, it offers Nordic cuisine that is healthy, not heavy. One of the few restaurants in NYC where one can have a conversation without screaming, which didn't deter the hip, downtowners dining the evening we were there. The $45 four-course chef tasting is an incredibly good value given the quality of the kitchen, the attentive and professional service, and the overall vibe and decor of the restaurant. Our second time here, and we were shocked that The New York Times' Jeff Gordinier's recent round-up of NYC's New Nordic scene omitted this extremely worthy contender. We look forward to a return visit soon."

  • "I loved that this place was very spacious--something hard to find in NY. The food was OK-- I got the cured cod and the duck. However the desserts were really good! The pumpkin cheesecake and the Danish s'mores were delicious. My main problem with the restaurant was the service. Our waitress was kind of rude to us and I don't understand why.. Had she been friendlier, we would've gotten a better experience."

  • "It was unlike any food experience we've had. The food is like a novel deconstruction, a witty riff on various food themes. In a grumpy mood, I might have considered it fussy or pretentious, but the tastes were too astonishing to be so easily dismissed. There was good bread and a very smoky cheese with the consistency of sour cream--unique! I had the 4-course chef's choice. A piece of cod had been brined or soaked in beet juice; it looked like tuna and tasted like sashimi, served with pumpernickel crumbs, dabs of cream, curls of cucumber. Then tiny balls of potato, with a dill emulsion, butter, and essence of potato broth. We had the best cauliflower dish ever. The service was very good, the room airy. Worth doing once!"

  • "I went here with my roommate because we both wanted to try a specialty cuisine. Like many reviewers on Yelp have noted, the portion of this place is tiny. If you come really hungry, then you will probably not be very happy, nor will your wallet because this is not a cheap place. However, knowing that the portion will be small, we came with half-full stomaches and used a Groupon (which gave us a 50% discount). The taste is absolutely phenomenal. It's quite unique and unlike any other cuisine we have tasted. It's very fresh and well cooked. The interior design is minimalistic, and the space is big and open. It's great for a business lunch as well as a date."

  • "Had a perfect evening at Aamanns. The first thing to impress is the decor, which is clean, airy, and elegant. I loved the high ceiling and the large windows. The cocktails and aquavit selection are delicious, and served in beautiful glassware. All of the food, from the simple basket of homemade dark bread, all the way to the creatively prepared desserts, were playful, delicious, well portioned, and elegantly presented. We didn't go with the full wine pairing, but the paired wines we did have were excellent as well. The absolute cherry on top was the staff. Everyone was friendly and good-natured (even on a busy night like the one we went on), and was knowledgeable about the food and drink menus. I felt very well taken care of!"

  • "We had a good experience, but there were a few glitches. The food was very good, but the service was slow and a bit erratic. This i a Danish restaurant, and we had to ask for the beer and aquavit menu. Also, it was surprising that there was no bread. The infusions were imaginative, some were excellent but the rye bread-based aquavit was too salty. These are minor issues, and we plan to come back, but they need to become more polished."

  • "The lunch menu looks to be Danish traditional, but dinner, which we had, is a trip into the world of a creative chef who is keenly attentive to flavor, texture, contrast and presentation. I would go back for-- the home made breads; home made snaps (go down all too easily); Gnalling w. quince and fermented green strawberries (whatever it is it's fabulous); panna cotta w. hazelnut and kale granite (a surprise to top off the many surprises of the evening.) Service seemed a bit leisurely at times, but overall a hugely satisfying evening."

  • "We used to love this place for its simple nordic cuisine, but this last time when we went it was all deconstructed and not to particularly good effect (more bland than anything else). I think the entrees were pretty good (as well as the cocktails), but they also no longer have the herring plate, which was our favorite. It was a reasonable deal through TravelZoo and we had a good time there for sure (atmosphere is classy but casual), but I would avoid the appetizers and desserts if you're paying for them. Pros: Good entrees, good cocktails. Cons: Appetizers tiny, way over priced, and bland Desserts so deconstructed that you feel like you're making it yourself."

  • "I have had brunch, lunch and dinner at Aamanns-Copenhagen and it is three very different experiences, but so worth trying. I was explained that the brunch is a typical Danish style brunch. For me it was more like a morning tapas style - very delicious. Lunch is Danish open sandwich concept, alterd for international taste. This is a big plus since the very traditional old fashion Danish Open sandwich style is only for Danes. The Aamanss-Copenhagen styl is just right!! The dinner I just reasently had was the New Nordic Kitchen which is daring and tasteful. Conversation around the table automatically turnes to the food: how is it made, this taste wonderful, but what is that spice etc.etc. A restaurant I have to come back to again and again."

  • "After finding every other brunch place within 20 blocks having a wait list, we took a chance on Aamann's. I'm so glad we did. Don't let the Danish-orientation scare you off. The rye bread was great, the granola and yogurt was amazing, and the egg was cooked to a perfect consistency (slightly soft). If the coffee had been refilled a little more often, it would have been five stars on service too. Skip the lines elsewhere and make this your brunch place."

  • "Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner at 8pm. The restaurant was largely empty.Somewhat small place, looks a bit casual for the price level. Food was very tasty and inventive--we had everything family style and it worked out very well. Mackerel was tasty--but 'fishy' (some people don't like it, I do). Desserts were tasty. Overall, it was a nice experience but there could be a bit more pomp given the fact it is a $70 dinner."

  • "One of the worst dining/brunch experiences I've had in a long time. Bleek, cheap looking place. Chairs uncomfortable, Some of the food was almost inedible, e.g. cauliflower soup. Tiny portions. Misleading descriptions, e.g. Granola and yogurt was 95% yogurt with a tiny sprinkling of granola. I expected the opposite. Mediocre service. I took a special friend from LA here. Expected a very different experience. No wonder no trouble getting a reservation. Really disappointing."
