Diner Reviews
  • "This was the first time that most of the members of our party had dined at Comus Inn. We were first greeted by Jessie who made us feel very comfortable while seating us. He went out of his way to accommodate us with our request to sit near the window to have a scenic view of the Sugarloaf Mountains (there was a wedding party with a tarp blocking some of the view yet he made sure we had the best view possible) and told us a history of the building was used to treat soldiers during the Civil War. Our food was cooked to perfection and we also enjoyed soup selections made by server (who was excellent as well). Our experience was wonderful and we look forward to returning again!"

  • "If they don't change a thing, it will still be an outstanding restaurant for food and service with a view thrown in for free."

  • "We've been to Comus Inn a few times. Usually a great menu and excellent service for a price that reflects the quality. This time we were in an interior room (usually we've been on the porch) and the staff just couldn't regulate the freezer-like temperature in the room. They were nice about it and repeatedly tried to cover the A/C vent, but it wasn't till we were nearly done with the main course that it started to warm up. (Other tables mentioned it, too.) Meanwhile, my wife ordered the special fish dish and it was completely forgettable/kind of tough. My rib eye was very good and was cooked to order, but it really didn't make up for the cold and the fish. We may not visit for a while, again. Especially at that price point."

  • "We live in the area near the Comus Inn and have gone there many times. We had a lovely table overlooking the back terrace. The wait staff was attentive, and one of the owners greeted us as we arrived. We started with an appetizer-- crab hushpuppies with a dipping sauce. If there was crab in the hushpuppies I could not taste it. The hushpuppies had been deep fried and were crunchy due to overcooking. I had the risotto and it was flavorful, but sticky rather than creamy. Another in our party had the chicken, and it was under cooked, making it difficult to cut with the knife provided. My wife had the fish of the day and it was underseasoned and and a little dry. Yeast risen rolls came with the dinner and were tasty."

  • "We went to the Comus Inn for our 5th anniversary dinner. The food was great and the server was friendly and helpful. We were in the back room with the mountain view, but I was hoping we were at one of the tables at the window. In mentioning that we were celebrating our anniversary, I thought the restaurant would make note of it and maybe do something to acknowledge it, but they did not. We did ask our server and greeter to take our picture and they were happy to do so."

  • "I hadn't been to the Comus Inn for years. I was pleasantly surprised at the renovations and elegant experience. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. Food was really good. Only disappointment was that the event tent blocks the beautiful view."

  • "We had a great time at the Comus Inn. We went for our 5th Anniversary and loved every second of it. We were greeted promptly at the door and we were sat at a table with a view of the Sugarloaf Mountains. Our server was very nice (I forgot her name! Sorry!) and friendly. All of the food we had was awesome. We shared the Deviled Eggs & Shrimp for an appetizer. I had the Crab Soup for a 2nd course, the Rockfish for my entree and the mint chocolate tart for my dessert. My boyfriend had the wedge salad, the filet and the flan for dessert. We loved every part of it. Thank you again for making our day very special."

  • "My sister and her husband were visiting from Florida and we wanted to take them somewhere that reflects the beauty of Maryland. Conus Inn was an excellent choice - great views of Sugarloaf Mt, excellent food, and friendly attentive service. We arrived at 7:30 PM and the sun had not yet set. My husband was facing the window and the sun was very bright in his eyes. He had to retrieve a pair of sunglasses from the car to make dining more comfortable. That was the only negative of our dining experience & would not keep us from a return visit."

  • "Our first time at this wonderful restaurant was exceptional. This inn usually has large events on weekends, but we were lucky to go on a weekend with none.We made our reservations for 7:30 PM to see the sunset at 8:00.We were not disappointed, the view was amazing from the back dining room. The food was also very good.I got the quinoa and kale salad to start with.It was the best thing we had this particular evening.I got the duck for my entree. It was good, but too much grisel and a bit tough. My wife got the Maryland crab soup which was okay (Nothing special). For dinner she got the braise poulet which we both tried.I wished I had ordered that instead as it was very good.Overall, we will be back and have recommended it to friends and family."

  • "I'm a regular at the Comus Inn and you never disappoint me. I love the setting and the drive to get there. My friends are always so glad for the experience. I often follow the dinner with a drive through Maryland's beautiful countryside. Everything is always perfect."

  • "My brother was in town and really wanted crab cakes. We both had crab cake eggs benedict and it was great! They even accommodated us by making a crab cake BLT to go which wasn't on the menu. Thought that was nice of them."

  • "Enjoyed our lunch very much, the food was very good except for the Bison Kabob, the meat was a little tough, mushy, and no flavor. The atmosphere was nice, it's a shame the large tent covering the water fountain and mountain view. The host was excellent he put us in a corner table where we were able to get a little partial view of the beautiful mountain. We will go back again."

  • "The Comus Inn is one of our favorite "special dinner" locations. The food is outstanding, and the service is the best for 100 miles around. When you are there, a MUST try is the Passion Fruit Mojito. A unique menu, generous portions, and peaceful atmosphere make it a truly special place."

The food is excellent. The view is superb. We have really enjoyed all of our dining experiences there and will continue to go there on special occasions."

  • "Once again, I must complement The Comus Inn for their perfect service and food quality. My filet was cooked flawlessly with a flavor that has no equal in the area. All our other choices tasted as if they were freshly picked and prepared with the excellence of any 5-star restaurant. I also continue to marvel at the service- Carla was our server, and what a gem she is - you must request her - though honestly everyone from Jesse the matre'd, to the owner who always greets us with a smile is so professional, yet personable, you would think you should be paying hundreds of dollars for this treatment, you feel like family, and are treated like royalty. Kudos again to the Comus Inn, you must get there now for the best food and service in the area"

  • "For our 55th wedding anniversary we decided to revisit our roots in Frederick County. Comus Inn was our favorite some 30 years ago, so we decided to return for our day's main event--dinner. We were absolutely delighted. The staff were especially gracious and accommodating, particularly our waitress. For starters we began with a round of roasted oysters--a delightful prelude for what was to come. The wine list was outstanding, and the entree menu was so tempting it made it difficult to choose. In the end we decided for the Filet Mignon. It was truly fabulous. The dessert list gave us delectable choices that complemented our meal and offered a grand finale to our appetites. Comus Inn is rare gem!"

  • "I took my Mom and my foodie nephew last week for a drive around Sugarloaf followed by early dinner at the Comus Inn. Since it was a weekday, it was quiet with one couple there when we arrived and another while we were there. We all really enjoyed the evening - the view, the beautiful flowers outside, and lovely table settings. The starters and wine were excellent and well priced. However, the entrees were over-priced at $38 for one & $40 for the special (for which the waiter did not give the price; something he should have done). The quality of the food was great; at that price I expected more accompaniments. Anyhow, not to take away from a wonderful evening, excellent service and a great overall experience."

  • "Ambience normally great. A key part of the ambience of the restaurant that makes it very special is the view of the mountain. For our visit, they left a wedding tent in place that totally blocked the view on the porch, along with terrible glare. Yet they still seated guests. So check on this before going. Other than this problem, this is a restaurant very worth visiting."

  • "From the enthusiastic greetings we received upon entering the Comus Inn, to the friendliness of our server and the imaginative food offerings, we loved every minute! Of course, the picturesque view from our table was glorious, and all was positively lovely!"

  • "View from dining on the porch is spoiled by the presence of a tent for weddings, which takes away from the dining experience in a beautiful location. "

  • "...don't mind overcooked food, cold coffee, and the scenic view of a white wedding tent then Comus Inn is a lovely place to dine on a special occasion. Our waiter was very nice and allowed us to sit and visit with no pressure to order, eat and leave -- which we appreciated. However, the food, while beautifully presented, left much to be desired. Whiskey sour was not made correctly, oysters were dryand tiny and 3 of the 4 steaks were overdone- taste was fine -just not for $42. Lovely desserts but cold coffee quickly remedied by our waiter brewing fresh pots. The ambiance is nice (would have been more scenic if a wedding tent wasn't just outside the porch blocking the mountain view)good food but definitely NOT worth the prices on the menu."

  • "Very sad to return to Comus Inn to find that the spectacular view from their back dining room has been completely obliterated by a huge function tent. A white tent that reflects intense light into the room on a sunny day. A request to move to the front room was not met with interest, and only grudgingly carried out. Service was very slow. Food was fine, but not exceptional. Am afraid we won't be going back."

  • "Our server, Chris, was excellent; he made eye contact when speaking with us, attentive to our needs, always had a smile for us and he made our visit very enjoyable. The view was amazing and we are planning on returning in the fall to enjoy the beauty of the foliage. The food was very tasty; the hard part was deciding what to have. "

  • "Food and service were both very good. Restaurant was empty in part to a heavy rainstorm and the staff was very accommodating. Wine list needs to be updated and refreshed to match the menu. Overall, a very good experience though."

  • "We were planning a drive to the Sugar Loaf Mountain area and surfed the Web for a place to have dinner. What a lucky find! We stopped in for an early dinner and there weren't many people there yet, but it was filling up fast when we left. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Usually the food at The Comus Inn is the best in the area. However, on Sunday, April 27, 2014, my companion and I were disappointed for the first time. The usually devine dinner rolls were not fresh and the med-rare rib eyes arrived at our table very rare and with a strange flavor. Worst of all was my own failure to report food problems, primarily because it was a birthday celebration. My guest found his prime rib and accompaniments delicious. Do not follow my sad example. No matter how good an establishment's food has been in the past, help ensure its continued excellence by reporting items that are not fresh and sending poorly prepared food back to the kitchen."

  • "This has become a destination spot for the food as well as the view. In fact, the food makes the view a distant second because it is that good. Wonderful variety of fresh and well prepared food with several interesting twists make the food that much more enjoyable. Service is attentive and training is obviously taken seriously--everyone is a professional. I have read some complain about the price. You get what you pay for and if you need to complain about that, you may wish to look for a chain instead. This is worth the trip for a special occasion or for a great lunch. I think it is wise to have a reservation if you want the view."

  • "The location is great overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain. We were at the last seating, and within 30 or 40 minutes of us sitting down they started to take apart the tables. Then we basically watch them take each station down in front of us WHILE we were eating and had multiple people stop by asking if we were finished with different buffet stations. Seating apparently was an issue for the restaurant when there were only two tables (our two tables) out of the 15 tables downstairs was occupied the rest was empty. When we asked if we could have seating next to each other, they said they would get us close but couldn't sit us together. Why have the last seating at 5 when the workers and owners are trying to rush and push us out of there. "

  • "The brunch buffet was excellent, but we were seated on the second floor and the buffet was in the basement. I wish they had told us about that when we arrived because my dad has a bad knee and I'm 7 months pregnant so there was some trouble getting up and down two flights of stairs. Otherwise, nice place."
