I am hoping this was just a bad night and exception to the norm. I was there about a month earlier and had great food but this night the food came out cold. Everything from the onion rings to the lamb was room temp. It was such a shame since the food has good flavor. If the waiter had came by sooner, I would have sent it back but by the time he asked how things were, I was eating. I didn't want to make a scene since I had guests and was trying to make the evening special. It certainly wasn't what I expected.

My husband and I had dinner at The Compound on Friday, November 21. We didn't have a bad experience, but the restaurant didn't meet our expectations. Appetizers - fettucine with clams and potato/leek soup - were good. The lamb shank entree was good, but very rich and heavy. My husband had the cod which was incredibly salty. "Too much salt" is what I read in other Open Table reviews the day of our reservation, and that was certainly the case with his meal. The cocktail served to him before the meal came to the table ridiculously full, which was sloppy service on the part of the bar. We also sat for quite some time with empty water and wine glasses, which is not something that should happen in an expensive, well-known restaurant like this. We had hoped for better and do not expect to go back.

The food was pretty disappointing, especially considering the prices. I feel like the chef phoned it in. Our server was a very nice person, but he seemed to be having a bad night. He got one appetizer and two mains totally wrong, which meant that by the time my husband and our friend got their main course, I was nearly finished. The Brussels sprouts were very undercooked, and most of the food lacked proper seasoning...kind of unusual in Santa Fe.

We come here once a yr and we should come more often. My friends and I lunch together every Tuesday. This was our end of the yr lunch as everyone is scattering for the holidays. The Compound is special. It has wonderful service and wonderful food. The pastrami sandwich is house made pastrami and it is delicious. The Lobster & crab salad looked wonderful and my friend raved. The burger was perfectly cooked. Wish they had truffle fries. But I wish every restaurant had truffle oil on their menu. We will be back before too long. It is just too good and reasonably priced.

All three dishes we were served (one appetizer, two main courses) were way too salty. Neither the dining room or the menu, as implied in a recent ad, appear to have been revamped.

We met old friends from CA there for dinner. All are food enthusiasts with a special interest in wines and locally owned restaurants. The food was delightful and perfectly prepared. Each of us choose different menu items from polenta with wild mushrooms to short ribs. Our waiter, god bless him was a patient angel, we were a party of 5 women and 1 man, we had much to discuss and we were never rushed! A delightful evening and scrumptious dinner was enjoyed by all!

I love going to The Compound because it's quiet and good for conversation, has great ambiance and in summer the patio and garden are sublime. But, I always wish the food could be better, especially at the prices they charge. Cod on Sunday was not cooked through...how can a restaurant of this caliber make that mistake? Meat entrees are always the best bet. Great onion rings. Deserts, especially the pumpkin brulee were excellent. With nods to the season in the desert category, how come the rest of the menu remains stagnant? How about more seasonal change in the menu?

This tried and true place is unwavering in quality and service! Our fantastic server, Max, steered us to some lovely selections. Can you imagine sweetbreads and foie gras in a wine reduction? What about a side of delicious Brussels sprouts? We also had the most diviner pumpkin crème brulee topped with crisp, picante pumpkin seeds. The people across from us made many of us uncomfortable with loud story telling and boisterous laughter. Nothing could be that funny!

This was a repeat trip for us. We very much enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. Very sleek setting on Canyon Road but set back in a very private compound. The place was packed with diners, but we did not feel crowded. And, a rarity in SF, there's plenty of (free) parking.

The Compound still thrills after all these years. The food was superb. They had a lobster/truffle lasagna special as a starter that should be permanently on the menu. The fall menu includes a pork tenderloin that captures all the fall flavors. Wine is always pricey, but great selections. We were so stuffed, we passed on desserts.

This restaurant was the dining highlight of our five days in Santa Fe. The service was impeccable & food was incredible! Our 1st course, the tuna tartare w/the lemon aioli was a great beginning. We were going to pass on dessert until we saw the pumpkin creme brûlée - happily we didn't it was wonderful.

The Compound's most salient feature is the professionalism and courtesy of the staff and waiters. They were attentive and quietly assiduous. The atmosphere is "high end western" with subdues lighting and interesting art ( though I would have preferred real candles to electric ones). The cuisine was also high end though not as quite as exquisite as comparable menus in others cities. Overall a lovely experience

We wanted to have dinner here, but I had an accident and am using a walker, so decided lunch would be more appropriate. The staff couldn't have been more considerate, clearing a near-by table ( unlike another, more highly rated restaurant where I waited at the unattended podium for 8 minutes) and providing prompt, solicitous service. The food was very good and the portions extremely generous. I wish I lived in Santa Fe I'd go there every week!

We dined here on the night of our 33rd anniversary. It was also the frist Friday of the month which is the evening of the Canyon Museum walk where lots of art studios stay open late. This makes for a nice combination. The service was excellent down to some details. The waiter would not pour my wife's coffee until she returned to the table so it would be hot for her. My dessert special, a pumkin creme brulee with spiced pepitas was great. The chef made a good choice to NOT pumpkin pie spice the brulee. It's not cheap here and not heavy on the Southwestern influence on the menu. But we were looking for a nice spot to have an upscale anniversary dinner and The Compound delivered.

We ended a 6 day New Mexico vacation with dinner at The Compound and were not disappointed. The food is classic top end dining, and after a week of regional Southwest cuisine, as one of our party enthused, "Not a chili in any dish!" All 6 of us agreed every course was top drawer - delicious, classically prepared with creative touches that reflected the chef's unique style. Portions were ample for sharing. Service delightful - attentive yet leisurely for those of us who love a 3 hour dining experience. My only regret is we dined late and so missed seeing the premises in the daylight. In a town where excellent restaurants are plentiful, The Compound is on our short list and will be a repeat.

We went here for our anniversary, and although we read The Compound was past its prime, were expecting a fine dining experience. It was far from fine. From the moment we walked in, the staff was very informal, commenting on aspects of our dress (He in a suit and tie, me in a dress) or my hair in an awkward way. When we sat down, my seat was covered in crumbs, presumably from the lunch service. We ordered wine from the menu, and there was a big kerfuffle when they couldn't find it. Only after 20 minutes and much mumbling and stumbling by our inexperienced-seeming waiter did we get any. Later on, I observed a male waiter giving a female waiter a massage in the middle of the floor. I want better service, professionalism, and quality for $300.

My husband and I were looking for a special place to celebrate our anniversary and The Compound was perfect. Loved everything about it. The food was amazing! We had the truffled Mac and cheese (I had to restrain myself from licking the bowl clean), corn soup, the mushroom entree and a fish dish. So delicious! So glad we went there! Wanted to try the molten chocolate cake but we were so full, so we just shared some yummy coffee ice cream and blood orange sorbet. Btw my blood orange margarita was on the dry side - it was very good, but don't order it if you like your drinks on the sweet side
