Diner Reviews
  • "Classic Cup has consistently produced great food however their wait staff leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know if the server was hung over or what however she was slow on the uptake as well as picking up our bar order as it sat on the sidebar for 10 minutes at least. She didn't smile once!!!"

  • "We recently attended for my Father's birthday. I was pleased with my rack of lamb and my mother was pleased with her tenderloin medallions. However, we waited entirely to long to be served and when we were my father's pork shank was still cold on the inside. Which means that it was prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. After the length of time we waited for our entrees, it should have been prepared appropriately. We will be back, but I hope the service is much improved in the future."

  • "Had another terrific and awesome and wonderful breakfast -- I am not sure we will ever find a better breakfast sport, more delicious pancakes, or spot-on service -- we LOVE the Cup and look forward to our weekly treat every Saturday. We are always warmly and genuinely greeted by Telia and Kelly, and get to enjoy flawless service from Ava, Tomas, Alex and truly fabulous pancakes from the phenomenal kitchen. We are lucky and grateful to have such a great place in Kansas City!"

  • "Diverse wine list; dinner was fantastic. The atmosphere was great, there was a lot of energy, although not loud. We were seated right away."

  • "The Classic Cup does it right. Always a great choice for a business lunch. The hostess keeps an eye out for additional members of your party, the wait staff give you the right amount of space to allow for good conversation and the menu is well priced and fits a variety of tastes."

  • "We got to enjoy a very quiet and yummy breakfast recently -- Tomas, who we have known for over ten years took great care of us, with Alex and Telia checking in to ensure we had everything needed. It's an amazing experience to go to a place where you truly feel welcome, appreciated and so valued. It's like visiting good friends with phenomenal food. The Classic Cup is the one and only place for us for breakfast!"

  • "I have dined at The Classic Cup many times and have not been disappointed. My most recent visit was for brunch. The food and service are both wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive without becoming a third person at our table. My husband and I both had Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and it was delicious. The tables are situated very close together, but oddly we did not feel like we were dining with the couples on either side of us. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The Classic Cup was wonderful. It was a quiet Sunday evening and the restaurant was not overrun by people, as it can be during the day. The food was exemplary as was the wine!"

  • "Restaurant was beautiful and food was great. It was just so quiet at lunch. I'm used to being there for weekend brunch, and prefer the busier pace."

  • "We had another extraordinarily phenomenal breakfast this past Saturday at The Classic Cup. Telia and Kelly were able to get us in quickly, despite the tourists in for the Big 12 Tournament, plus people on Spring Break. Once again, we are so lucky to have Ava (ahhmazing!) and Alex taking terrific care of us. Pancakes were perfect, the best ever. There is only one, true place to have breakfast and that's The Classic Cup. We LOVE it! Always hugely grateful that we are treated as valued, welcomed guests -- that it ettmatters that we show up and want to experience the on-the-ball, friendly, customized service and those deelish pancakes. Doesn't ever get any better! Thanks to Kelly, Telia, Ava, Alex and the gifted kitchen crew!!!!"

  • "The Classic Cup is our Saturday spot for breakfast -- we are always warmly welcomed by Telia and Kelly, and get to enjoy the fantastic service of Ava and Alex. No question that The Classic Cup has the very best pancakes in the known universe. I've never had better! And there's no comparison to any other pancake I've ever tried and I've sampled a lot of pancakes. The kitchen staff is super wonderful about indulging my request for blueberry pancakes, even though it has a tendency to make the grill a bit messy. We are so fortunate to enjoy such a fantastic breakfast on a weekly basis with superb service!"

  • "Classic Cup has always been one of my favorites, but this last visit was disappointing. The three of us that dined in for lunch were less than pleased with our meals. My pizza had hardly any flavor. the veggies on my salad seemed old. I don't think I will be visiting here again."

  • "The January thru March wine at $1 over cost is a real gem. We go a couple times every year and enjoy some wines we might not otherwise order. Love it!"

  • "It's worth it but make sure you have a reservation. I wanted the artichoke sauce on the side with my mahi mahi dish (brunch). I'm not a fan of cream sauces. After getting my plate, I wouldn't really call this a sauce. Whatever, it was, it was AMAZING and I wanted it on everything. Best artichoke flavor ever. Great place all the way around!"

  • "We LOVE the Classic Cup and it's been a regular breakfast spot for us, for years, ever since we met Chef Michael Turner through classes at Williams Sonoma. We are so fortunate to know Kelly, Telia, and our favorite, Ava, who takes great care of us! Always grateful that I can get my favorite blueberry pancakes every Saturday and that Stephen Malloy makes an exception for me with the pancakes. Kitchen delivers/executes every time and the service is terrific! There are no better pancakes anywhere than the Classic Cup!!!!"

  • "Things have changed at the Classic Cup. We've dined there many times over the years and noticed this time, in particular, noticed things have changed. One of my colleagues ordered the signature Thai Chicken Pizza and was disappointed when looked more like a Pizza Hut pizza than the original one did in years past. I had an entree salad that should have been noted as a side salad. The service was mediocre; our server seemed hostile at times. It was just a disappointing lunch. Hopefully just an "off" day!!"

  • "The service was terrible. I had to ask who our server was after sitting for at least 10 minutes without one. Once the server did arrive he was pushy. My good came out wrong. It might have to do with the fact that the server was walking away while I was still trying to order. When I arrived at your establishment it was about 8:58. The hostess saw me standing there freezing while it was snowing. She turned around and ignored me. Another coworker of hers arrived and she opened the door for her and attempted to close it behind her. I grabbed the door and informed her that it was freezing outside and I wouldn't stand there any longer. She didn't apologize or hardly look at me! I will never dine here again."

  • "Busy of course on this special day but our table was available on time and there was enough room between tables. The food was outstanding and the service very good. In a prime position on the Plaza the location is wonderful, lively and great ambience. We'll return soon!"

  • "Classic Cup is one of our all time favorites in Kansas City - we've lived here 27 years and it has been the place that special occasions as well as just normal stuff have happened for us. Love the classy environment, the food and ambiance. And it has a range of prices so you can spend more or less depending on your budget. We had a lovely Valentines' Day celebration there this year."

  • "Our plans for Valentine's Day fell through and we were so lucky to slip into a reservation here. The open table app was so helpful. We parked in the garage, found the reservation and walked right in to an open table. It was perfect. The lighting was great. Even though it's a small place, the tables were staggered so you didn't feel as if you were siting right next to someone else. This was our first visit. I was so pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and how great it was. We will definitely be returning."

  • "This place is always a great option for breakfast. I've been there a number of times and they're always busy and the food is always good. This time, it was the Chilaquiles. They also have French press coffee."

  • "The restraurant was very nice. We were seated promptly. We liked the selection and especially liked the small plates for the smaller appitite. You can make healthy choices there and that is a big plus for us. Our waiter was very nice and we had questions about the plaza and he was very helpful in giving us answers. We were celebrating Valentines Day and were very happy with this choice. We also liked that the menu was not limited to certain things since it was a special occasion. Very satisfied."

  • "We had a table for two directly in front of the fire. While the restaurant was crowded I never felt like it was too noisy for a romantic night out."

  • "A wonderful place to dine with a date. My husband enjoyed the pork shank and I enjoyed a shrimp pasta dish. We shared a bottle of wine and dessert and the price was reasonable. They had the boulevard chocolate ale on draft so we enjoyed trying that as well. Romantic and charming for dinner with a view of the plaza out the windows."

  • "Our first time at Classic Cup - had planned on brunch, but arrived with only 10 minutes left of breakfast service. The mid-day menu is limited and depressing, so we ordered the appetizer trio (it was good, but smaller portions overall to share) and waited for the lunch menu to begin. So many more options! Drinks were great, food was good - my shrimp and grits were delicious, my husband had the special quiche and wasn't impressed. Our biggest complaint is that the décor is drab. The ceiling is dirty, the wires are exposed from updates, the wall booth is dated, and it was either hot or cold, never truly comfortable throughout the dining experience. We expected more from a plaza restaurant. Return is iffy, but possible."

  • "This place has good food and because of it, it's very busy. They were out of certain things we ordered and with reservations we were waiting awhile."

  • "Had the most amazing duck dinner during Restaurant week. Unbelievable value. Wine list was amazing too."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "Our food was delicious! And their wine prices are the most reasonable I've seen at this calibur of restaurant. Our server was not as attentive as he could've been. We had to ask for another drink and waited quite awhile for them. We sat very close to other couples so it was difficult to speak freely without caring that your neighbor could hear every word."
