  • "I am consider myself a steak "expert". I was not disappointed. Not much more needs to be said. It's a great restaurant."

  • "We always enjoy a special dinner out at The CSSH. I usually have no complaints -- only praise for the whole experience - service, ambience, and food. The other night it was so noisy we had to shout just to converse, and repeat almost everything we said. THe food was still excellent and service was very good until the end of the evening: a waiter came to take plates too soon and one of us was obviously still eating. He soon came back and asked if she was still eating, and she said yes. He soon came back AGAIN so she stuffed a bite in and gave up on the rest of her meal, to stop feeling pestered and guilty. That's ridiculous! If a person SAYS she is still eating, then WAIT UNTIL SHE HAS FINISHED before you hawk around for plates!"

  • "A great place to go for a group or for a special nite. Always a new, creative choice. My husband, tho, just wants one of their steaks!"

  • "We have visited a number of times. The food is reasonably priced for a steakhouse of this caliber -- certainly less than you would pay in Cleveland or Columbus -- and is tasty, well-prepared, and presented nicely albeit without drama. Service is always efficient, courteous, and pleasant. The kitchen seems to work well, as appetizers, salads, and entrees appear at the table at a decent pace. Try the seasonal vegetables, they are always a delicious alternative to the potatoes. Wine list is not extensive or ambitious but does offer options from many different wine regions around the world. The entire experience makes for very enjoyable dining."

  • "We've never had a such a personable, capable waiter. Fits well in the friendly atmosphere of City Square. Delicious hamburger to outstanding steaks. Good beer on tap We all got what we wanted."

  • "This charming restaurant in the middle of sleepy Wooster was a great surprise. The food was wonderful, creative and plentiful, even house wines were delicious, and the service was just OVER THE TOP. Even on a crowded Sat night, the manager took time to give us a little history on the restaurant, and show us the various rooms and patios. Our waiter was personable, funny, and more than attentive to every need...."

  • "The four of us sat outside and had a wonderful meal. It was a little chilly, and they lit the fireplace adding even more to the ambience. The food was fantastic, as always. The wine list never disappoints."

  • "This restaurant has become very successful in the community, but sadly it seems to have begun taking that success for granted and for those visiting Wooster for work or pleasure, there are far better dining options in town. The menu is as expected, but there is nothing creative in the food. Recently cooking quality has slipped and plates that used to be stunning (like the crab-cakes) are only so so, steaks are not consistently cooked to temp, and are not flavorful. Burgers remain the best thing on the menu. For fine dining visit the bistro across the street. It has the reputation in the community of being pricey, but if you really look at the menu it is similar and the cuisine is far better. Sadly they are not on open table yet."

  • "A fun evening with out of town friends. The food was exceptional. We all had the special, almond crusted walleye & the pork chop. Walleye was delicious and the pork chop, as always, was moist, flavorful & perfect. Great drinks & wine. The service was outstanding. Friendly, fun, & timely. The restaurant was hopping. Busy & everyone was enjoying themselves. Overall the right choice for an evening of catching up with old friends."

  • "When in Wooster for the OLO, this is our number one choice for a pleasant dinner between shows. The street parking is ample, making a 5:30 dinner work well between the afternoon and evening performances. In cooler weather, the walk to and from the theater is doable, though there is a hill to climb on the way back. The food has always been excellent and plentiful. Appetizers and main dishes that we've tried have always been very tasty and well presented. The staff has always been great. While somewhat noisy, we can hear each other very well, without intrusion into other conversations. We have fun trying out different beers."

  • "Food is always delicious and served hot, nothing worse than a cold steak like you get at some chain restaurants. Waitress was on top of things, as always, and there was a good vibrant crowd."

  • "very poor quality "filet " -"oscar" topping of minced crab somewhere in the bernaise-probably canned crab meat dry, over sauteed, tough veal"

  • "City Square continues to surprise me with their outstanding steaks, the quality of which you would expect at a higher profile restaurant (for instance, comparable to Mitchell's Steakhouse in Columbus). The Filet Oscar is especially delicious and the mashed sweet potatoes are scrumptious! Even though the steaks are a bit pricey, you won't be disappointed."

  • "The restaurant was not crowded for a mid week evening and the patio was quiet and very enjoyable. Food delicious as always!"

  • "My sister and brother-in-law were in town from Washington state so I thought this was a perfect place to come the night before they were leaving to go home. No one was disappointed! They are city people and thought this restaurant was like being back in the city. It's upscale, modern, and the décor is current. Our waitress was very accommodating and attentive. The food is wonderful! Our steaks were done to perfection and the sides were excellent, too. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like a special place to take special people! We will be back!"

  • "We chose City Square Steakhouse in Wooster for our anniversary and couldn't have been more pleased. We've eaten at all the big name steakhouses in Columbus (Ruth's Chris, Mitchell's, Smith and Wollensky's) but rank this meal higher. We enjoyed lobster bisque & crabcakes as appetizers, and Filet Oscar and Filet smothered in mushrooms, onions, and garlic butter as our entrees. The steaks were cooked exactly to order and were tender beyond description. Our waitress was attentive but not smothering. We'd recommend it for a special night out! Wooster is a little gem for restaurants!"

  • "I've had dinner here many times, probably four times each year since the opening ( I live 40 minutes away so City Square is a destination dinner event for me ). Typically _all_ menu items are perfect or astounding. Service and guest attention are always astounding, special requests are not an issue. This time, the filet medallions were a disappointment ( I've had them previously ). The portions were small, and dry/over done ( versus the medium rare request ). Still vary tasty, however a bit chewy from the done-ness. My guests were delighted with their choices so it's a one-off challenge on this particular night. If you are considering City Square GO. If you like Steak, GO. This is the best meal experience in Wooster."

  • "I love this place. Great food, great ambiance, good location. Service is good. But it can be pricey, which is why I usually don't go with the whole family, but maybe date night or a special occasion. You can order off the bar menu, so that's another good option. They have a great wine list and their steaks and seafood dishes are fantastic. I went with the veal this last time out and it wasn't the best, great flavor, but texture was chewy and at times unpleasant. Still a great experience. "

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at the City Steak House on our 36th anniversary. The servers were attentive, without being intrusive. Though the room was full the noise level was quite low and we were able to easily converse without raising our voices. We both ordered steaks and they were both cooked to perfection. My wife ordered her steak "WELL DONE" which is very difficult to cook and still be palatable. Her steak was, in fact, well done yet still juicy and tender. I rarely order desert but the cheese cake looked delicious so I ordered it and was not disappointed (thankfully I was able to convince my wife to share some as I was quite full) and the coffee was excellent. Definitely would recommend."

  • "I have zero complaint s about this place. Everything was excellent. Katrina was our server and she was great. The food was delicious. It is an excellent up scale dining experience. Reminds me a lot of the upscale places I frequent when in Chicago."

  • "The last time I was there was for my anniversary and the staff made us feel very important and we felt like they made our day special. This time not so much. I notified the restaurant ahead of time that it was my husband's birthday and my parents first time visiting the restaurant and my husband's birthday was never mentioned by the staff and it felt like walking into just a normal restaurant nothing special like last time. I just feel if we are going to spend $200 on a meal it should feel somewhat special. My parents were not impressed."

  • "in the four years that my son went to the college of wooster city square was always one of our special restaurants. the ambiance food and wait staff were (and are) stellar. one time we made reservations through open table and they didn't have it on their reservation list. not only did they accommodate us despite the mix up they also gave us appetizers (which were amazing) on the house. for a small town restaurant they have big city finesse. this from a native new yorker. i will miss them. if you're ever in wooster ohio go to city square."

  • "We had reservations at 4:00 on the day our daughter graduated from The College of Wooster. My daughter had been here before with her boyfriend for a romantic meal and was very impressed. She asked us to book a reservation far in advance because the restaurant is so popular that families book far in advance to get a table on graduation day. We were very impressed with everything. It was very quiet and we appreciated this because it had been a crazy day for all of us. All of our steaks were cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, we will not be able to go back to enjoy this restaurant, because we live in New York! Thanks once again for a perfect way to end our very special day with our daughter!"

  • "We were seated on their outdoor, heated patio which was a great setting. Nice lighting and space heaters when we needed them. The food was great and our table of 6 had a variety of steak, seafood, and pasta. The medium rare steak was indeed medium rare, but the medium "+" steaks were very well done. I would have sent them back but it was so busy we didn't want to wait. They were good, just overdone - probably because there were so many people there and they were swamped. The service was great, and the wine selection was really nice and really reasonable. Next time we're in Wooster we will definitely be back."

  • "This occasion was a Mother's Day treat and City Square surpassed all expectations. We were all delighted with our meals and service. I can not think of a better place to spend a special occasion. "

  • "The server was inattentive and obtuse. His nonchalant attitude toward our table translated into a feeling of being left to fend for oneself to get service. Dinner was well timed and the steak was tender and prepared as ordered. However, it was lacking flavor and didn't live up to the "aged" billing so highly touted in the menu. Sadly, I've had a better steak for less money. If City wants to become a premier steakhouse, get back to the basics of truly aged great cuts seasoned and prepared with passion."

  • "Always look forward to our visit. Excellent food. This visit was the first time I had fish--the salmon. Nothing special, but I especially felt strongly about the baby red potatoes. Soaked in butter. Totally unappetizing in my book, especially when served with a fillet of roasted salmon that is light and delicious (ruined the salmon as an accompaniment). Also, they need a more expansive wines-by-the-glass menu (I don't recall it being so limited?). To offer one Chardonnay besides the "house Chardonnay", is really disappointing...Hess is fine, but a central coast, Sonoma or Washongton state would be nice, and a French Chablis or Chotes de Rhone would be nice, too. Always enjoy coming to CSS when we visit our daughter at the College. "
