Diner Reviews
  • "We were counting on a romantic chocolate dinner, but it had a rough start. First of all, the musician was too loud, then you add the music, and my boyfriend and I were just shouting at each other even though we were sitting right next to each other. Then let’s include a couple crying/screaming kids to add to the ambience. The spinach appetizer was good but both our tilapia and chicken entrees were tasteless, and one was overcooked. Ok now comes the good part: the absolutely decadent desserts. Absolutely wonderful!! We had the Flourless chocolate cake with a raspberry sauce on the side, and the strawberry/chocolate crepe. Both were a piece of heaven. We would recommend this place but only for families and for dessert goers."

  • "This restaurant has a vast food and drink menu which I think is part of the problem. There are so many choices that nothing is really done well. (Except the chocolate). The drinks were extremely overpriced and not very good. I got the chicken and it was just so so. My husband ordered the steak and he said that the meat cut and quality were not very good. There was a couple sitting across from us that ordered steak and had to send it back three times and it still wasn't cooked correctly. I would recommend getting your steak at least medium well. Overall, for the price,I expected a higher quality dining experience. I highly recommend doing your primary dining and drinking elsewhere and sticking to this place for dessert only."

  • "I felt like the hostess was a good friend of mine by the way she welcomed me and took the time to chat and answer my questions. During our dining experience we were checked on by the chef, manager/owner, and the hostess. The buffalo chicken soup topped with blue cheese crumbles was excellent! My friend's wrap was very eye appealing! We were treated to a sample of the chocolate martini which is a chocolate lover's dream! This is a new dining experience worth trying!"

  • "Our waiter Jeff was very attentive and apologetic. The kitchen however, would get a 1 as far as I am concerned. They burned the first appetizer, then comped it. They brought my salad with my dinner instead of before. My entree was tepid at best and missing a side dish that was to be included. They ended up comping my entree. The desserts were they best part. Both were absolutely wonderful. I would probably go back and give a second chance as the taste of all the food was really good. Did not try a Chocolate Martini because i did not want something sweet before dinner but will definitely try next time."

  • "My girlfriend and I went here on Saturday night. She ordered a martini and I had a spiked hot chocolate; neither were the caliber we'd expect from a a restaurant that claims to specialize in martinis and chocolate both lacking any flavor other than the alcohol. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer (our favorite) and were fairly disappointed with that as well, as it too lacked much of a particular taste. For our entrees I had a flatbread and she had the chocolate pasta. Mine was edible but very generic; the prosciutto wasn't even authentic. My girlfriend wasn't even able to eat her (very small) entree. We originally planned for dessert but went elsewhere as everything else was unoriginal and uninspired. We won't be back"

  • "We all enjoyed it. The hot spinich was one of the best I had ever eaten. The hot milk shake Godiva was wonderful!"

  • "The hostess was very sweet, which started this off great. I was early so I sat at the bar and got a White Chocolate Raspberry Martini and Ryan was EXCELLENT and very helpful and so personable. When the rest of my girl arrived we had Lynn as a waitress. SHE WAS FANTASTIC!"

  • "Dinner portions were small, food was OK, but nothing special, I would not come back for the steak I had. In the backroom there was a birthday party for little girls, maybe they should put a door up, because it was a little noisy for date night."

  • "Our martinis were good, however, one of our party members ordered a hot chocolate that was just lukewarm. My dinner salad that had accompanying warm dressing, was lumpy and not very flavorful. We did love the creamy spinach-artichoke soup and it probably was the hit of the night. The room was dimly lit and fairly loud, and also since our table was next to the window, we were cold. We may try it again when the weather warms up and we can sit outside."

  • "My wife and I visited The Chocolate Bar for a NYE dinner. Drinks and ordering went fine, but then our dinner made it to the table before our soup and salad we also ordered. They offered to take the dinners back to the kitchen, but not being a fan of sending food back we declined. Even with the miss-timed arrival of the food, my wife's crab cakes were lukewarm at best. Our server said he would send over the manager, but that never happened. Not being in the mood to complain (being NYE), we went on with our meal. My wife ordered decaf coffee for desert, which our server said may need to be brewed, but he never followed up on it again and it never came (at least we weren't charged). The Oreo cheesecake was the highlight of the meal."

  • "Went for NYE. Had live music. Was good musician! Excellent food, drinks and dessert. But was INCREDIBLY SLOW at serving us and getting our food and drinks to us. If you don't mind slow service I would definitely recommend for the food! We all loved ours: Fetticine with Chicken, Filet Mignon, and Cuban sandwich. For dessert the fondue was huge and good! The cheesecake was generic. Overall a good meal and will return!!"

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner on NYE and were sadly letdown. When we got to the restaurant it was not busy yet our server was MIA majority of the time. We waited entirely too long for a whiskey sour to be delivered and even longer to get a steak knife for his filet (which he ended up cutting with a butter knife.....). Due to the lack of service I didn't even bother ordering dessert considering how long the rest of the meal took to happen, which is sad because I picked the place simply because it seemed as though the desserts, and service, would be up to par. If I ever come back I hope the experience will be better....."

  • "Glad that east Louisville has a restaurant that does not mimic many others.....the many chocolate options are novel! I will return to try some of these in the future"

  • "We planned for months to come to the Chocolate Bar for our Girls Night Out. Got our reservations, secured a designated driver, and got all dolled up for a couple hours of husband and kid-free relaxation. Then it took over 30 minutes to get our first martinis, the steaks were incorrectly cooked, and our waiter readily blamed everyone for our poor service but himself. The place was empty, it was a Monday night, and our server made no mention of the free manicures that were offered. All in all it was a disappointing experience that I'm not willing to spend my hard earned money to give them a second chance. Don't waste your time, it would be quicker, and cheaper, to drive to your local liquor store and buy your own martini supplies!"

  • "The best thing about the Chocolate Bar was not the Chocolate. The Club sandwich (Panini too $$) was tasty. The chocolate/strawberry crepes was served COLD! Cold (thick) crepe, cold berries, and cold chocolate! Too late now...as the desserts we already ordered to take home (Belgian Mousse Cake and a Raspberry Ruffle Truffle) also came from the frig. Neither was good! We were told by our nice server, that the only desserts made in-house are the Crème Brule and the Mud Pie/Cakes. Very disappointing and over priced! Too bad...could have been a good thing. Guess they expect you to have another martini and not notice..."

  • "We were having a "girls day" and wanted someplace different, local(neighborhood) and interesting. The Chocolate Bar filled the need nicely. We had never been before, the waitress answered most questions instantly. We were there around 1pm and chose bar seating; once the main dining room emptied however, the staff blasted music throughout the building. Our waitress accomadated our request to turn it off, but the music choice seemed out of place for the ambience and the volume was excessive! I understand the staff was in mid afternoon prep but there were customers in the building and it was a jarring end to an otherwise pleasant lunch. We will go back to experience some of the Happy Hour features...Massage Wednesday etc."

  • "Delicious and fresh Mediterranean Salad with grilled shrimp, good choice of dressings. Much harder to pick a dessert to share from the extensive menu of chocolate treats, but settled on the Snickerbocker and was not disappointed."

  • "We were hesitant after reading the reviews of making reservations here but we were pleasantly surprised. As many readers noted they seemed under staffed for a Saturday night, but the service was good. The menu had many interesting options, however what we thought was most interesting was we asked a staff member what they would recommend. The answer they gave was more options of what they wouldn't order than what they would. My husband finally decided on the steak gorgonzola and I had the tilapia, both were good nothing great but good. The best part of the evening was the dessert and martini selection. We have always complained Louisville needed a good place for adult beverages and dessert and we found that in the Chocolate Bar."
