  • "We enjoyed our meal. The plating presentation was great and the food was interesting in the choices and flavours. We would come again."

  • "Great decorum, accommodated our group of 7 well. Staff were friendly and courteous. Great dishes to choose from, the lamb dinner and the coffee, mushroom ravioli were outstanding."

  • "My wife enjoyed the three courses of her meal. I enjoyed two of the courses, starter and desert. The main course I chose was Lamb Biryani.I had to send it back as it came cold. When re-served it was very bland and tasteless. I would not order it again. The time between courses seemed a bit long which probably accounts for the lamb biryani being cold."

  • "Very good service a we had a polite informative young man. The food was attractive when served as well as well prepared. This place has a clean modern feel and I always enjoy my visit."

  • "Our food was good but our server was not knowledgeable and didn't comprehend us wanting to take our time to enjoy ourselves. And there was an unfortunate fire alarm due to smoke in the open kitchen. Very loud and smoky. Not a great start. Still, I would recommend the restaurant."

  • "I had high expectations for the restaurant but was sadly disappointed. One of the pasta dishes was a little undercooked. When asked what the appetizer consisted of, the waiter wasn't able to respond. The main dish was a bit salty. Given what we had, the meal is overpriced ($41 for three courses and 47 for 4 courses). For comparison, I would advise checking out the Niagara Culinary Institute - Benchmark restaurant...great food (full of flavour) and reasonably priced (with wine pairing suggested by the students)!"

  • "I went with three friends for dinner on a Friday evening. We all enjoyed our meal and the time we spent at The Chef's House . The food was very good and our waiter David was exceptional. This is the second time that I had eaten here but was the first time for my friends. I do not hesitate to let others know about this unique restaurant."

  • "Loved the restaurant lay out. The TV screens were a touch of brilliance ! Very effective & unique. Service was okay, the waitress should not have asked 10 times or so " you guys okay ? " However this young lady was very attentive and pleasant. Everyone seemed very nervous which made us uncomfortable. The kitchen service was very slow in spite of not having much of a crowd. The food was well below average. At times cold ( the soup ) which tasted great. Entrees very disappointing not much taste offered, plating excellent. The complimentary rabbit mousse we should have passed on although beautifully presented. Dessert took for ever, not worth the wait. Q water is excellent not the cost. Management must be stepped up students deserve better."

  • "Good food in a great location perfectly set up for a personal or business meet up. Light and open on a sunny day adds magic to the lunch enjoyment. Watching the students perfect their skills adds to the ambiance."

  • "Maybe it is because you walk in there with high expectation but the reality is that this restaurant is OK. I went to dinner with a friend that was curious to try the Chef's House. Food was OK, service a bit rushed - the waiter had to go and was rushing us to order and pay. Overall it does not deliver to expectations. Being a school you would expect higher standards for the students. It can be tried once out of curiosity -the marketing is pretty good - but not worth a second visit unless the quality dramatically improves. Overall it is a bit overpriced."

  • "The food was average . I ordered the Trout but was surprised that the fillet was not deboned well , I've had over 30 pin bones that I had to remove . The other entree like the lamb biryani was luckluster. A 5 dollar biryani in a hole in a wall tasted better. The desserts however saved this dining experience . I ordered the plum upsides own cake with ice cream . It was perfect. The ice cream was smooth and creamy contrasted with the crispy and warm upside down cake with the sweet plum was a delight. I wish I could have ordered it alone ."

  • "As a former George Brown student who had to work in the restaurant as part of my program, I was wanting to return tremendously to see what was going on the The Chefs' House because the menu is always changing. It was great to see students from my program currently working dinner service that evening. The restaurant has at some interior decor change, but the food is still equally as delicious! Take warning if choosing to do the four-course menu, because the portions are FILLING! As this is a learning environment, patience is a must with the service staff because they are all present students - some are from other countries and have a varying range of restaurant experience."

  • "I brought my husband here for Valentine's Day and the meal was wonderful. This was not our first visit and it was a great reason to return. It's not just the food but the ambiance as well. You can see the interest and dedication of the student/staff, as ours said to us, this is a class and they want to do well and understand what makes good service. I appreciated the teacher/chef asking us about what really stood out for us - it was good to see that amount of care they take in what they are teaching. It's not often you can enjoy such wonderfood and see the next generation developing. Makes you feel good."

  • "Three of us dined at the Chef's House for Winterlicious and our three meals were all very good. Beef and chicken were cooked perfectly, as was the fish, and all were presented artfully. Staff are energetic, friendly and abundant in numbers! As a training restaurant for George Brown College, this is a fun and delicious experience at a reasonable price. What is great is the enthusiasm and obvious joy of the students who have chosen to go into this profession."

  • "Our server and the staff were lovely. The food was excellent and the open kitchen concept was fun to see. One piece of constructive criticism -- Carrying plates was an issue - both serving and clearing. Nothing that a bit of practise and confidence won't fix though. I wish the students all the best with their school courses. Cheers!"

  • "Went for dinner-Winterlicious. The restaurant was about 1/3 full, we were 2, but we still were seated at the back (the 'in the kitchen' table). Ambiance? - I have no idea- had a blank wall with a tv screen to look at. Food a bit too nouvelle cuisine for me - a main with no offer of carbs at all? & portion size - skimpy. At least fill me up with the 'sides'. (I am a 110 lb woman). Food generally uninspired (roasted beet salad-hmmm, not roasted-maybe poached, pickled....). Beef roulade - plain roll of beef. Lemon tart was superb! The chocolate flour less cake- could have been good if it wasn't fridge frozen-room temp it should be. Excellent house red wine and coffee. Service was attentive. Was expecting better food."

  • "The Toronto gem The Chefs' House was the site of our first 2014 Winterlicious dinner, and did it ever impress. From the service of soon-to-be Hotel Management expert Sophie to the spectacularly-executed three-course meal to the energetic and enthusiastic attitude of every individual involved in the operation that night, we left with a distinct impression that George Brown is doing something right, and that Toronto is lucky to have this culinary treasure right in the middle of the city. Of particular note was the poached pear and blue cheese ice cream dessert that ended the meal. Delectable. We'll definitely be heading back to The Chefs' House to see what's for dinner in the very near future."

  • "When dining at The Chef's House, we always keep in mind that most of the chef's and server's are at some point in their training, so a little leeway should be given. We have never been disappointed in the food, however, sometimes the service is not quite as acceptable, but who cares because the servers have just begun, or are still being trained, they try hard and they always have a smile."

  • "The fish was good (not great). The vegetarian dish was extremely bland. The chicken was good (not great), but the veg boring and tasteless. Portions for the chicken dish were extremely small. More effort should be given to train students about how to properly serve wine, and let them taste the wines so they can advise customers. We also noticed that some students were not very observant e.g. took all the cutlery away before serving the desert, leaving us to ask for it or eat with our hands. We based our comments taking into consideration that these are students, and did not expect the same level of food or service we would find elsewhere."

  • "I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. It felt very relaxed and the energetic vibe seemed very fitting. This was the 4th time in three years that I have been to The Chef's House and I plan to return to try new dishes on a regular basis. The food is always so beautifully prepared and always tastes like it has been made by chefs at one of the top restaurants in the world. Everyone loved the Pork and Cantonnier Sausages, gravy and mashed potatoes. The service was very efficient and the staff very friendly and well knowledgable and the food is very well priced. 10 out of 10."

  • "We had not been to this restaurant for a number of years but we have now decided that we must go there more often. The staff are friendly and made every to make our experience a special one. Our waitress, although a bit hesitant, was helpful and knew the menu well so that she could make recommendations. All four of us were very impressed with our appetizers and main course as well as dessert. One person commented that her main course just a bit bland compared to the soup she had for the appetizer. We all agreed that it was a very good experience even though we mistakenly thought that it was Winterlicious time. We will recommend the Chef's House to our friends!"

  • "I am new to the city and I asked my friend who is a chef 'where is a great place to eat in the King St. E/George Brown' area as I was meeting a friend who goes to George Brown. She suggested the Chef's House and I am so pleased with my experience! The staff were very friendly, welcoming and smiley! The food was amazing and very well priced. The lunch portion size was perfect! My only suggestion to improve was that our server could have been a bit more confident! She did great, but just needs a bit more confidence to sell it!! I will definitely come back again and again!! Thank you for a wonderful experience and great first impression!"

  • "This gem on King Street east serves the public by students from George Brown College. On a quiet Monday this restaurant was underused. The food was delicious, presented as a work of art, the service friendly, an all together delightful culinary experience."

  • "Went on a Monday night and can't say enough about the food. It is truly excellent. Nice wine selection and they have Beau's on tap. Service was good, they are learning on the job so there was some confusion at times but it did not bother us at all. Thank you Chef's House!"

  • "This was the first week of the new term for students in the George Brown Hospitality Program so we did not expect perfect service. The students were friendly and did their best to give us a great dining experience. The food was very good and the presentation was up to the standard of any fine restaurant."

  • "We have dined at the Chef's House on several occasions, including the Rising Star dinners and have found the food to be well prepared, very good, with great presentation. It is one of our favourite restaurants in the city as we know the quality will be consistently good. Some menu items have appealed to us more than others - we prefer the beef braising ribs to the beef rouladen but found the cured trout starter to be excellent. We always enjoy the lemon tart as well and the sweet potato and leek soup is a favourite. We feel we are getting good value and a good dining experience. The kitchen is open to view and always spotlessly clean. We also like to support the scholarship program at George Brown."

  • "The Chefs' House is a beautiful restaurant whose two main purposes are to feed its customers with creative well prepared and beautiful presented meals and as a training ground for culinary students at George Brown College. We went on what turned out to be this particular group of students first day. Let me say that this is not a restaurant for the impatient and demanding. It is a wonderful setting to interact with students taking their first steps in the restaurant world. Our food was inventive, deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. The students were charming, eager to learn and to make the right moves. We look forward to going back soon to see how they are progressing. A delightful lunch with good friends."

  • "It was our first experience with Chef's House. The food was like fine dining. It looked very clean. One can follow the cooks' work on screens. Waiters and waitresses are doing their job with a lot of joy. Choices are good and the food was delicious and healthy. The big windows gave the place an open atmosphere."

  • "I really enjoyed the food; tasty, creative, beautifully-presented and served. Unfortunately, the cold, hard melamine, stainless steel and mirrored surfaces have the effect of bouncing sound waves back and forth into a cacophony that does nothing to enhance the enjoyment of the great food which is served! No doubt the Interior Designer was deaf. Perhaps that gut-quaking effect is not experienced by people accustomed to blasting their ear-drums with top-volume music in their ear-buds."

  • "The smoked tuna appetizer was spectacular esp the balsamic pearls! The turkey dinner was a huge portion of succulent meat and tasty vegetables with a tangy gravy. The salad was dressed a bit to heavily. The pecan tarts and eggnog ice cream were delicious"

  • "I had lunch with a couple good friends. When we first arrived there was a large group just inside the front door of the restaurant and to was quite loud, however, we were seated away from the group and we were not disturbed. The server was very friendly, he gave us menus, we asked him about some of the dishes on the menu and he was very knowledgeable and made suggestions. We found the menu very interesting, and the food was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be coming back to the Chefs House."
