Diner Reviews
  • "We went for lunch at 2pm on a Saturday and had the place to ourselves (it was April and "off Season") . The décor was charming and the food superb. We eat out frequently and my husband is a big steak fan. We both agreed that the steak at Chateau was the BEST we've ever had. Everything from the apps to the desert was wonderful and presented very well. Can't say enough about this must see place!"

  • "Brought my husband here to celebrate his 50th birthday. There is something magical about this place. The food is superb and the ambiance is fantastic. We're planning to visit Lake George again this summer, just to dine again at The Chateau! Truly a beautiful evening."

  • "This restaurant simply draws you back. We came for an early dinner and found a quiet ambience with a few couples at the bar and several others nicely spaced for table service. We began with a cosmopolitan (great color and subtle flavor) and a glass of pinot grigio (nicely tart). I started with the beet salad which was extraordinary in presentation and palate pleasure. Constant companion waived off a starter in favor of leaving room for dessert. She had the osso bucca which came on a shank that would barely fit in the bowl (a much better alternative to a plate for this item). I had the divers scallops. But in the end, after helping finish the shank, neither of us could fit in any dessert. We pushed back reluctantly, but plan to return soon."

  • "Up here in the frozen North Country people seem to be all abuzz about this place. For the Adirondacks it is very fancy. Linens on the table. Customers dressed to the nines. By Adirondack standards it is also very, very expensive. Valentine's Day dinner for 2 with 2 glasses of wine tipped the scales at close to $300.00 (tip included) The problem (in my opinion) is that the food is not extraordinary and up here at this price point it should be exceptional. The service was wonderful and management came by to make small talk which was appreciated, but in the end the meal was not up to the price tag. In the summer it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we will give it another try."

  • "Very efficient and friendly service from the entire staff. We had lobster bisque followed by pasta bolognese, both of which we're excellent. There is a decent wine list and we found an affordable Cabernet from Oregon. Overall a very good experience and we would definitely go back."

  • "We went to the Chateau as an alternative to the Bella Vita at the Sagamore. The atmosphere is much nicer, very quiet and romantic and the service was impeccable. We shared an appetizer/salad (beware, there is a charge for this) which was delicious, had two entrees, dessert and wine. One of the entrees was excellent, a version of trout almondine, but the other entree, a simple baked chicken was overdone and very dry. The chicken seemed to be a popular entree and I suspect it was just being made in factory fashion. All in all we enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely go back the next time we are in Bolton Landing."

  • "Again, we return for a great meal. Food was superb, presentation beautiful, service impeccable. Very quiet winter evening...other diners appreciate the ambience and keep things under control, even with the great wines available. This has become our clear choice for excellent food in the north country."

  • "My wife and I and our son and his girl friend had dinner. The atmoshpere is great for conversation with no TV's or distractions. The service was great. The food had great flavor from our soup to the main dish. We had 3 orders of Lamb and I had the Chef Cut steak and we all loved it. The recommended wine was perfect. It was snowing so we could not enjoy the fire pits that are normally going in the back yard. Great Place!!!!"

  • "We have visited this restaurant many times since they opened this summer and decided this would be a lovely place for New Year's Eve.....and it was! They provided a lovely evening beginning with a glass of champagne upon arrival and Hors de oeuvres. Dinner was a 5 course with optional wine pairings - every course was wonderfully prepared and presented. The ambiance was festive without being overpowering - truly a lovely experience!"

  • "We went here on NYE. Even if you're not close by, it is well worth the drive. The decor is beautiful and the ambiance was great. Very upscale. There was a prix fixe menu and though some of the items weren't amazing, most of the food was very good and I feel that price is worth it considering the ambiance and location. The service was absolutely fantastic! We had a great time and will definitely come back."

  • "Great food, friendly and informative staff. Chateau has a special feeling to it. We ended up there for lunch and our only regret was we weren't in town long enough to return for dinner. We had wine, a couple of specials and a charcuterie platter of local market cheeses that was so good I took a picture of it. It was an upscale menu with a pretty interior dining room and porch and fun firepit outdoor area right on the lake in contrast. We sat on the porch in October and they were very accommodating with heat lamps so we could stay out there and appreciate the lake. Hope to go back soon!"

  • "You might overlook it because of the modest narrow street which leads to it, but don't! It is a quaint old house which has a private view of Lake George, with provisions for sitting outside on the patio, or dining on the porch, or inside where you can enjoy the fireplace. We were greeted promptly, and felt right at home. The service was great, and the food was delicious. We will return."

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant and it was a very pleasant experience. The ambiance was very nice with a charming renovated old estate home very tastefully decorated with a gas fire place in the dining area. The staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgable of the menu and the restaurant itself. The wine list, although somewhat short, had a good variety albeit pricey on the bottle list. The choice of entrees was balanced and the food was excellently prepared and tasted great. We will be definitely be returning to dine again."

  • "had dinner there on November 8 around 7. place was quiet with only about 4 other couples. love the decor, the setting, and the food and service were excellent. very comfortable with the fireplace going and outside, 1 of the fire pits was burning. this was a second visit and will return. it is excellent food and a bit pricey so more of a special occasion place."

  • "We had Sunday lunch at this cute restaurant. I would recommend the charcuterie plate. They state it is for two but it was good for all four of us. The risotto was very good so was the lobster salad which also had grilled shrimp and scallops. I would go there again."

  • "For a restaurant that charges the prices that Chateau On The Lake charges, the meal and the experience should be extremely special. There were so many things that happened that made the evening not worth the money, that we would not go back or recommend this restaurant. 1. Unpleasant entry…coffee makers, cutting bread, folding napkins, no real place to hang a coat. 2, Offered two unacceptable tables before we settled on the one we wanted 3. Butter was frozen and I had to heat it over the candle to use it. 4. Main course was not what was not what was described on the menu. 5. Food was luke warm 6. Water glass was never refilled 7. Wine glass was chipped, we told the waitress and she did not replace it."

  • "Great resturant with a beautiful view, outside dinning available directly on Lake George. Seasonal dishes that rival many NYC restaurants. Perfect for a romantic dinner! Our server Brandi made the night amazing for us. Brandi went out of her way to make sure it was a special night, Service was the best I have had in upstate NY. Will be back !"

  • "We had originally thought of dining at the Sagamore but decided to try the Chateau on the Lake instead after reading a few reviews. It will certainly be our first choice whenever we are in Bolton Landing again. The service was outstanding with very attentive and friendly wait staff. The food was impressive. I have had many Lobster bisques but the Chateau's was definitely one of if not the best. We had the steak which was cooked to perfection. The Halibut is a generous portion and the dish is flavored great. Looking around I could tell that guests at other tables were quite impressed with the food as well. In fact, I even overheard a couple say it was there second night in a row. I definitely recommend this restaurant"

  • "I booked the Chateau for our party of seven the night before a family wedding. From the moment we arrived for cocktails lakeside by the oversized firepit, the staff was so accommodating and the service was spot on. Our party was an eclectic group, but every need was met and expectations exceeded. From the wait staff to the chef who came out to talk with us post-dinner to the owner, bravo, well-done. I hope visitors to BL recognize this gem for what it is and support it fully as I plan to return whenever I come back to NY."

  • "The only reason I gave 4 stars on dining experience was due to poor weather! It is a 5 star place on a beautiful day or evening! We still dined out on the porch with the lake views. Food was outstanding. Mussels, Tuna, and Eggs Benedict, all a treat. Not our first time and not our last!!"

  • "This restaurant was recently opened, so I thought there would be a few kinks that would still need working out. Not so. Every detail was attended to, inside and out, resulting in an elegant surrounding, fantastic service, and delicious fare. Our group enjoyed salads, sandwiches, soup, Arancini risotto, and the lobster roll. Every morsel was delightful, and every plate was clean. All this in the beautiful and peaceful spot on Lake George. It was heaven! Our thanks and best wishes to the new owner and staff. We look forward to dining again at the Chateau."

  • "As New Yorkers, my husband and I are used to prices of $35 to $50 for entrees (before appetizers or drinks). But for that price, you have to deliver something special. The menu was interesting, but the quality definitely did not deliver on its promise. This restaurant seems to exist because there are so few options in Bolton Landing. We would not go again."
