  • "This one-of-a-kind restaurant has the unique characteristics of 1) location (at a historic B & B in Va Bch. 2) Unsurpassed elegance in a romantic setting. and 3) Great gourmet food and wine. The bar is cozy and inviting; the staff congenial; the off-bar seating for groups or more casual diners interesting. We love it for a great spot to get good food, feel transported to a different time and place, and dine in quiet."

  • "I have been here twice now. The first time was perfect. This last time the food was perfect but the noise level was quite bad. They had a group of 8 or 10 sitting in the middle and because this place is a cellar, the acoustics are quite good. It made for communicating with my boyfriend very difficult and it was not the nice quiet experience that we had previously. I hope that they do not make this a habit. Large parties should be in private rooms. I'm sure that they don't want to turn people away BUT I don't think it's what all the other 2-person tables came there for. This is a nice place with a great atmosphere and food but the other night it was not enjoyable outside of the food."

  • "We arrived for 5PM reservation, we were the only ones there. Young lady at the front was very friendly. We were seated against a wall in back which would have been o.k. if the restaurant had been full but it felt closed in. Food was good but not excellent. The beans, kale, etc. was all together on plate with rockfish on top. Server was nice and manager came to table to say hello. When another family came in, we heard the server say to them "Let me tell you about our specials". We did not know there were any specials because we were not told of any. We only had the regular menu. Anyway, we MAY try it one more time!"

  • "We chose to come back for our anniversary dinner on 3/15/14. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in the door. I have forgotten the name of our server but she was wonderful. Short blond hair and a beautiful smile. There was another table being difficult and I watched her handle them like a pro. I joked with her and told her we would be her easy table, which she seemed to appreciate. The wine was very well priced and the food excellent. My steak was perfect and my wife's scallops were spot on. I will make sure to get back sooner than later. You won't be disappointed in a trip to The Cellars."

  • "I did my research to find a romantic restaurant for our 25th Anniversary. The reviews were great on The Cellars so I planned a surprise dinner for my husband. We invited another couple and we All loved The Cellars. The decor is beautiful, the service is impeccable, and the food is outstanding. There was not a crumb left on our plates. We had some delicious wine, all had different entrees, oyster appetizer, salads (yum), and 3 desserts to split. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a true getaway and I love how is tucked away in a neighborhood. It also has a ramp for those who can not do stairs."

  • "My husband found The Cellars on Yelp and took me for our 2 year anniversary. The place is a little bit hard to find but it is definitely worth the search. They have menu items that change weekly! Their butter flavors change weekly! And the food was delicious! I will definitely be going back!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary at The Cellars. The staff-the hostess, the waiter (Wilson), and the general manager-made our evening special. The Cellars is a gorgeous, intimate restaurant. We began with the pork cheek confit. The meat melted in your mouth, and the tangy glaze complemented the sweetness of the pork. We split the fall greens, a nice salad with lavender-infused pears. The pecan-crusted trout sat atop couscous with sweet potatoes and a bed of fried kale. The mild trout, the flavorful kale, and the sweet couscous combine to create a thoroughly exceptional dish. My husband had the rockfish with white beans. Both the fish and the beans were outstanding. Creme brulee and deconstructed apple pie were great!"

  • "Great place! There is a lot of "good" food in Viriginia Beach, but not a lot of "great" food... The Cellars ventures into the realm of great... Highly recommended."

  • "The food was amazing! We had no idea about what wine we liked, so the staff found the perfect one for us. Made a note in our reservation that it was our anniversary; pretty much the entire staff came over to congratulate us. Had an overall good time."

  • "As newbies to the are we were looking for a special place to celebrate and hit a home run by choosing The Cellars. The food, wine, ambience, and service was all top notch. The front end hostess was weak but other than that truly a great spot in a very unique part of Virginia Beach. Highly recommended."

  • "The Cellars lived up to the amazing reviews it has received. Everything about it was perfect. The service was exquisite, warm and friendly without being intrusive. We were offered two wonderful wine choices that were not even on the list just based on a question my husband asked. We ordered one of them and it was a wonderful Malbec- among the best we have had. The cheese fondue appetizer wax perfect to start the meal with, and both of our entrees were beautifully presented and delicious. Dessert and port-a perfect end to a perfect evening."

  • "Sadly, there's not enough room allowed here to write a fair review. We had little issue with the food. For the most part, it was great. Our server on the other hand, not so much."

  • "Valentine's Day dinner. Wonderful find not far from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Located in the cellar of the B&B. Had a little trouble finding the restaurant entrance as it was located opposite the driveway entrance. Very good food and a nice wine list. The service and ambiance are excellent! Romantic atmosphere with a background of classical chamber music. All the tables were full on our visit, but the noise level was quite low and did not interfere with conversation. Truly a great, romantic restaurant. Dress up and have fun!"

  • "When had reservations at 5:00 and were there at 5:00 but we weren't seated until 5:15. My husband and I ordered two beers and were told they were out. We selected two different beers and were again, told they were out. The waiter even told us the restaurant is not known for their beer but for their wine. We finally settled on beer they had in stock. My husband ordered his steak medium but it came rare. It was sent back and recooked and my dinner got cold while waiting. The table was too tight. I know this could happen anywhere but this was our first visit and when you arrange a nice anniversary dinner with a bill of $100.00 for two, you DON'T want any of this to happen. We usually go to Steinhilbers; should have gone there again."

  • "Historic restaurant located in the original cellar of an 1800s farmhouse. Warm and inviting, delicious food. Located in a suburban neighborhood where you think your GPS must be wrong. The manager gave us a tour of the bed and breakfast upstairs after dinner and gave us some history into the building. Great surprise, would definitely come back."

  • "Very romantic spot. The manchego cheese fondue was a little taste of heaven. I would have been happy eating the fondue and drinking wine for the rest of the evening, but we moved on to enjoy the filet and the rockfish...we were not disappointed. We capped off the evening by meeting some new friends in the bar and chatting with the affable bartender, while enjoying college basketball and the winter Olympics. We will definitely be back!"

  • "When it comes to Valentine’s Day, at Cellars is a gem, it was a romantic meal consisting of three key ingredients: great food, gorgeous surroundings, and a fantastic dining partner. The whole experience was extremely delightful and the service was superb, we would definitely make a return visit."

  • "Okay, so it's not really a secret, but its location--tucked away in a neighborhood in the cellar of an old house--makes you feel like you've discovered something fabulous. And you have! The Cellars is quiet, romantic and oh-so-good! I would highly recommend it for any special night out."

  • "The Cellars is hidden back in a modern neighborhood in the former manor house of the surrounding land. A B&B about and the restuarant, you guessed it, in the cellar... Romantic atmosphere, quiet and warmly decorated, it is a great special occasion place and a very nice change of pace from everything else out there... I proposed to my wife, there and she said yes, so of course it's special to me. Check it out you'll be glad you did."

  • "My wife and I had an absolutely terrific dinner there last night. The temp.& lighting was nice and romantic. Comfortable noice level, very relaxing. Our Waitress Lisa was super, very pleasant. The Wine specialist Mark help us with a great wine choice. We started with one of the nights appetizer specials - a spicy mussle dish - very tasty and with the homemade bread and butter at the table it was well balanced. Mild Spicy with sweet butter/bread - perfect. We had trout and ribeye for our entree's. Some of the BEST trout and ribeye ever!! Really gourmet food. A Big thank you to the Chef both dishes were wonderful! The Ribeye was one of the best I have ever had! We finished with a nice apple pastry. We will be back, Cellars made my top list."

  • "First, we were glad to have GPS to lead us through the neighborhood to get there, and then had to call to find the entrance -- but it was well worth it. Wonderful and interesting food, lovely atmosphere, attentive but not intrusive service. We never get dessert, but loved the deconstructed apple pie."

  • "The quail dish was delicious (the assorted items that accompanied the quail helped compliment (hide) the 'gamey' taste of the bird. The salmon dish (off menu) was average. There were only a couple of other groups eating so that - combined with the ambiance of the restaurant - made it feel very private and cozy. The complimentary dessert (because of our special occasion) was a nice surprise. Staff / service was average but that's not why you go there."

  • "This is the second time we've been to The Cellars. The first time was back in October, but the both the Manager (Mark) and the Bartender (Betty) remembered us from our last visit. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet, the fireplaces throughout the restaurant make a nice, cozy feel. But, by far, the food is the best part of the experience! My husband and I were extremely impressed with the food on both of our visits to The Cellars. My husband had the smoked mac with a ribeye, I had the veal osso bucco, and both were cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. We will most definitely be back again. Hopefully it won't be several months this time!"

  • "Loved the ambiance and setting. I had the special, venison Wellington. It was very tasty and tender. My husband had the filet and he said it was bland. Needed more seasoning. He found it a bit over cooked and should have been more tender. I loved the flour less chocolate cake. Overall a good experience."

  • "The restaurant contains a Bed & Breakfast on ground level. The restaurant is located in a residential area, so do not be thrown off by your initial drive. The driveway is a big horseshoe that goes behind the bed & breakfast / restaurant with a parking lot behind. The restaurant is located downstairs in the cellar, duh. The set menu included venison and filet, which my wife and I both enjoyed. The wine list was extensive as well. They have a comfortable lounge area with TV and fireplace to enjoy before or after dinner. The restaurant does not necessarily feel like a basement but to someone who needs windows while dining then you will feel uncomfortable. My wife and I would recommend this place to anyone."
