The Cellar - Fullerton CAAnother great dining experienceI get up to Fullerton once a year for the Muckenthaler car show. I make it a point to dine at The Cellar.I love that it's cozy and comfortable. The ambience is that of an old French wine cellar. The service is impeccable and I've never had an entree I didn't love. Service was good but a little slow.
Wine list was extensive and excellent.
Food from all that attended was very good to excellent, as was the desert.
When making reservations for 4-6 people ask for the "back" table that affords a more private dinner.
Would I recommend The Cellar to friends... Their menu has something for everyone. If you like Chateaubriand, you will love their cut (the great thing is you can actually order it for One or Two) which is brought out table side and carved. No short servings and cooked to perfection. Best Short ribs and Lobster Bisque I have ever eaten, period. Wonderful place for romantic dinner or a casual meal. No dress code but you won't want to wear hobo attire, casually elegant +. Outstanding meal and service, wonderful ambiance. AND they have a $25 PER PERSON price fix menu for May that is off the hook. When my steak was prepared very rare when I asked for medium the maanger was great in handling the issue and offer us a complimentary glass of champagne! I started with the French Onion soup which was flavorful. My wife had the Lobster Bisque (award winning) who says she expected more lobster flavor and bits of lobster in it. I then had the braised short ribs which was again very flavorful but the portion size left me wanting. Fortunately my wife ordered the special surf and turf which was a thick chunk of filet with 3 giant scallops and she generously shared. The chocolate soufflé was spot on.
I do want to make a note about our service. It may be specific to our waiter, but we were not offered bread, and there was no mention of the special tasting menu. Mysterious location makes for a romantic adventure. The food & service was top notch. Presentation was excellent. We sat in the smaller dining area near the bar. The intimate space does allow for you to overhear conversations at the next table, but that's only bad if the conversation is pure drivel, which in our case, was a bit distracting. But that's not the restaurants fault. If you are seeking privacy, you'll need to request one of the booths in the back.
