A word from The Cellar - Fullerton CA
In 1969, artistic craftsmen of Disneyland fame created a romantic rendezvous in the cellar of the old California Hotel. The Cellar is the perfect setting for an intimate and romantic evening of fine dining. Patrons will find themselves enjoying fine French cuisine while comfortably seated in soft velvet-backed chairs upholstered in rich mellow leather and surrounded by a dimly lit interior. Intimate and cozy, the four dining rooms are elegant amid structured arches and cave-like walls, decorated with wine casks and silver lanterns. Culinary excellence abounds with only the finest and freshest foods prepared in a lighter version of classical French cuisine. The Cellar, winner of The Wine Spectator Grand Award, was selected in 1992 as one of the top six restaurants in the world for its outstanding wine list which currently features over 1300 selections from around the world. The Cellar is One of America's 10 Best French Restaurants, and Restaurant of the Year for 2005.Continued

  • "Our first visit to The Celler this past weekend was to celebrate my birthday with my family. I learned about The Cellar in the OC Register magazine under the section about the Best Romantic Restaurants. I'm so pleased I had a great time and especially wish to thank our waiter Mark for his hospitality. Hope to return again with my girl friends next time."

  • "Quiet, softly lit, good food, great service. I understand it was created in 1969 by Disney employees that wanted a restaurant with great ambiance. They succeeded. The only drawback was that it is a little expensive..but, this helps the place remain a quiet, romantic place. Neighborhood gem? No... A Los Angeles area gem ! It is the most romantic place I have ever been to for dinner."

  • "We had the pleasure of spending our 45th wedding anniversary at the Cellar and what a wonderful way to cap that special occasion! Our server was absolutely wonderful as were all other aspects of the dinner. Thanks to all that make our celebration especially memorable."

  • "Very nice place to bring your date/wife or loved one. The food and service is top notch. The ambiance is unique, dim, and quiet. It's in a great location, but the parking situation was the only issue I had. Down town Fullerton is a busy place, but we managed to find free public parking about a half a block away."

  • "The best romantic dinning experiance we have ever had! Food and service are a 10 out of 10!! The atmosphere is off the hook!!!"

  • "I took the family to celebrate my new promotion. We always enjoy the Cellar. The boys drove on their own so they could leave when they wanted and my wife and I topped dinner off with a drink at the bar. I find it a toss up between the cellar and the Cat and the Custard Cup as my go to great place. I like the cellar regular menu better but I like the bar and bar menu better at the Cat"

  • "I read that The Cellar was supposed to be one of the more romantic restaurants in Orange County. My experience was disappointing. I hate the side by side seating and we were right next to the couple beside us. The ambiance was less than I had expected and the location in downtown Fullerton is boring. The food was good, but the souffle's ruined my evening. The waiter made a big deal about ordering with our main course so they would come out on time, but my wife's souffle came out 30 minutes after we finished eating and mine came out 20 minutes past that. In addition, they were not very good. When I asked what took so long, the waiter did not apologize or explain what happened. I will never return."

  • "The boyfriend and I had a date night here on Friday. I found it through open table and was so impressed. The ambience was great and the setting is perfect for a romantic evening. The food is expertly presented with fresh ingredients and wasn't swimming in butter or cream. The wait staff were friendly and made the evening delightful. Highly recommend!"

  • "Great $40 restaurant week deal. Lobster bisque, steak and chocolate soufflé. Fine restaurant, outstanding service."

  • "Poor service not waiter Jimmy's fault - he was friendly & attentive. Problem: short of wait staff &.kitchen service abysmal. Dinner was close to a 3-hour experience. I asked for Macallam 12 year old single malt Scotch, which they did not have, but their scotch list showed 12 yr Aberlour as comparable, but it does not come close! My date ordered Tanqueray Gin, which they didn't have and she was served Ford, which, at best, is an unknown well gin. The beef medallions, although flavorful, arrived medium well vs our order of medium rare. The lobster bisque was average, but the souffle was good. Their $40 Restaurant Week special, with only two entrees offered, should have been no more than $30"

  • "It had been at least 10 years since dining at The Cellar. It should be that long before doing it again. The food is still fantastic! I and my lady friend had the Chateaubriand, which was cooked perfectly. Robert, the sommelier, was phenomenal. We told we were interested in something like Prisoner and he recommended a BV Tapestry Reserve, which is DEFINITELY not your ordinary BV. We will be back!"

  • "We went to the cellar to celebrate a birthday. I ordered the medallions with home-made spaetzle and my wife ordered the salmon. Both dishes were outstanding. The service was professional and gracious and the cellar has a wonderful ambiance."

  • "I took my wife as a surprise, to eat at The Cellar. We really loved the food. There wasn't anything that we tried that wasn't excellent. They had a special menu for Valentines weekend, so I tried food I normally wouldn't have ordered. I was in for a great treat, everything was delicious. The service was excellent. My waitress kept coming to my table. She was very friendly and helped me make my selection. Truly an elegant experience. Very romantic. Wouldn't suggest bringing children to this place. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We had a wonderful time. Food and wine was great. I would have liked to know more about the history of the restaurant and its design. We reserved online but did not know that the menu was a set selction for Valentine's day. This was dissapointing since we did not get to choose from the wide variety that we had expected."

  • "The resturant was great. We arrived a little ealier than our reservation, though was taken to our table as soon as we got there. The menu was limited due to the Valentine holiday, wich is very understandable, but i was hoping to try a few of their typical choices. I will be returning to try. Except for the couple sitting adjacent whom were arguing the entire time, it was perfect. I highly recomend."

  • "Not the quiet romantic place we had hoped for. Too many people crammed into a tiny restaurant. This was our first visit to the cellar and we were not impressed. We were seated at a small table with a party of four right next to us. It felt like we were a part of their group. Not what we wanted. The food was ok but really the steak was nothing to get excited about. I would be hard pressed to find one thing I really enjoyed about our experience. This was not what we had in mind for a nice Valentines Day dinner at a "fine dinning" establishment. We don't plan on heading back down to the cellar anytime soon."

  • "No better place than to the Cellar to celebrate Valentine's Day. The decor, subtle lighting, and ambience made our evening extra special. It put my husband and I in a very comfortable and romantic moment. The staff was stupendous. Their cheerful disposition made us feel welcome. The Valentine's Menu was well orchestrated and scrumptious. I am so happy that I brought my husband to the Cellar. Looking forward to more dinning experiences at this establishment."

  • "My husband and I first found The Cellar on Groupon about a year ago - since then, we've come back a few times. It's somewhat pricey, so definitely reserved for special occassions. The menu changes often, and the food is always outstanding. The service (especially this last time) was great, and the ambience and atmosphere is the best part. A very nice place for a romantic dinner. I definitely recommend The Cellar."

  • "I took my wife to the cellar for Valentine's day. For our appetizer we ordered the braised pork belly and all I can say is that I wish I had ordered something else. My wife ordered an asparagus soup that she loved and wanted more. I had the salad with feta cheese and red beets, it was very good. For main entree, I ordered the steak and it was awesome! my wife on the other hand ordered the duck entree and she wishes she had also ordered the steak. Both desserts were excellent. Overall a very nice experience, I would come back on another day to try their regular menu. Thank you,"

  • "Great way to celebrate Valentine's Day. My favorite dinners were not offered on the Pre Fixe menu but delicious choices nonetheless. The Cream of Asparagus Soup was heavenly. The dark chocolate mousse was super. Nice evening for sure."

  • "Making early reservations is a plus as our party was seated in a cozy corner away from view and conversation of other diners. Our main wait staff was knowledgable about offered wines. There was a fine presentation of food as well as ample selection of entrees for the prefixed Valentine Day menu. The New York steak was excellent, all excess fat trimmed. An ample sized salmon portion was offered with a delicious sauce. Overall the meal was quite good; however, a bit on the pricey side"

  • "Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. Reservations online were simple and quick, and finding the place was not an issue (follow the signs.) Great ambiance in the middle of downtown Fullerton, the food was fantastic and the service was incredible. Expect the meal to take a few hours as the point is the feel of the place, and the staff will leave you plenty of time to chat and enjoy the experience. Great wine list, great food, everything was perfect. 5/5"

  • "Delicious Food, Wine, and Service was impeccable. Especially perfect for celebrating that special day/ romantic evening. This is a fantastic hangout for those that want to get together with friends in an intimate setting that is stunning. Highly recommended."

  • "Best French Food I've ever had. The Bartenders are mixologists and make the best drinks. The service in the dining room was extremely slow so that put a damper on the evening. It took a half hour just to get water and bread when we first sat down."

  • "I have eaten here three times within the last two/ three weeks . My first experience was great so great in fact I made reservations for the following week . Second experience was okay service was not as great as first time , and well third time was awful I waited with my guests ( there first time ) for nearly 45 min for a waiter to even greet us ... Terrible and the hostess was slightly rude no kidding I asked her to please tell my server to make sure I get the check needless to say she did not even make sure we received any service. I literally had to go hunt a server down to get my parents , boyfriend , and I service ... Don't think I will return again"

  • "We have been to The Cellar multiple times both for celebrations such as anniversaries and Valentine's Day as well as their wine dinners and tasting menus and the food and service never disappoints. This time was no different. Fantastic as always. We had the pre Valentines dinner for $99 that included an appetizer, we had the grilled artichoke, a main course we had the Chateubriand for two, which was cooked to perfection and the side sauces were just as amazing, chocolate souffle for dessert which is always wonderful. You also will receive a bottle of sparkling wine with your dinner which gives me a headache, they were very accommodating in that they credited us the price of the bottle towards another wine that was more to our liking."
