Diner Reviews
  • "An excellent restaurant with great food and great service. Who knew that vegan could taste so good?"

  • "We live locally and just discovered The Cellar Friday evening. We loved it and will definitely return for many more meals. We ordered the lamb lollipops as an appetizer and they were scrumptious. The house salad was delicious with just the right amount of dressing. My husband and I had the sea scallops and pork cutlet both of which were excellent. Everything was nicely prepared, and we had great service. It was a totally enjoyable evening. Our only problem was we ate too much!"

  • "We had a great dinner. The menu is limiting for those of us that want to choose from a larger selection of items. We were very satisfied with the service, food and dining experience. Who knew that we could find a great restaurant in Corning, NY."

  • "Everything was perfect. Great food, great service and great seating. We'll be back as soon as possible."

  • "The chef is to be applauded! The food was amazing with flavors perfectly balanced to give some heat with sweet. Starting out with a salad and soup for appetizers, our palettes were well prepped for the main courses. We had the daily special pork tenderloin and the on menu chicken. Both were incredibly tasty and extremely tender with amazing sides of rice and asparagus. The wine was chilled perfectly and delicious. The chef even adapted one of the desserts for our anniversary. Highly recommended."

  • "We came back to The Cellar while we were in Corning for the 2300 Event and Glass Fest. As with our previous visits, it was a great choice for dinner. The waiter was attentive and helpful while we were choosing from the menu. We were relatively early so the restaurant was pretty quiet during our time there. Food was excellent as was the wine. We will be sure to go back to The Cellar when we visit Corning again."

  • "The menu looked so interesting, with a lot of vegetarian options. And it called itself a Martini bar. But the cocktails were not well made, and the food was bland. "

  • "We had a lovely experience all enjoying the tapas. Delicious variety of foods prepared to perfection. Great wine list!"

  • "This was my third visit to The Cellar.I came back for the great food but was treated to especially good service this time as well.I came with my Husband, we had a table reserved for 4 my daughter and her friend (who are both attend school in the area.)We were seated in the back to the right on the opposite the bar in a cozy booth. While we waited for my daughter , the staff was welcoming and attentive. We had the soup special, salad, tapas and an indian dish. All the food was very fresh and delicious. The next time I am out to visit my daughter at school, I will be sure to reserve a table at The Cellar. 0"

  • "Who knew a town with a four block Main Street and a few traffic lights would have a restaurant with such a eclectic menu. They had things I had never seen put together and dishes I had eaten before but elevated to a new level. I wish we could move this place to NYC, it would be full every night. "

  • "The wine selection was amazing, the Vino-Pad helped us to narrow down our selection and then read reviews of the wines right at our table before making a final decision. They also had a decent beer list and martini menu. Our server was great! An adorable young lady with long dark hair that due to my 53 year old brain, I can't recall her name. She was attentive, friendly and gave great recommendations for dinner and dessert. Dinner consisted of Day boat scallops served perfectly prepared with caramelized tops and bottoms, tender and delectable! My husband enjoyed the beef cheeks in a trumpet mushroom sauce. The beef was tender and juicy, flavor forward without being too traditional in flavor. Dessert of Salted Caramel Ice Cream rocked!"

  • "The wine list is good with something for everyone. The menu is varied and tasty; the mussels were excellent! We had a corner table and even with no separation between the bar and the dining room, the noise level was manageable for comfortable conversation."

  • "This restaurant gives you a big city meal experience in the small city of Corning, NY. The ambiance is nice, the service is excellent, and the wine selection is superb. My wife and I come here for special occasions as it can be expensive, but it's worth it!"

  • "We ordered the lamb lollipops, PEI mussels, and brussel sprouts--all excellent, followed by the chia seed pudding and avocado chocolate mousse--again, both excellent. The wine we chose was the South African Releaf Red Blend, which was perfect with our meal. Service and attention to detail were the best. We look forward to dining here again on our next visit to Corning."

  • "Nice dinner. Our waiter was efficient but a bit clueless (unable to answer basic questions about the menu and wine list without checking with the kitchen and bar). The wine list was solid but unimpressive for a place called The Cellar (and despite the Wine Spectator award). An interesting menu and good food. The place was noisy even though it was only half full, so the noise level is probably pretty bad on a busy night."

  • "The menu, food, atmosphere were really lovely. Our server was educated on the food and wines and made great suggestions for us. She was attentive and not over bearing! But she dropped the ball at the end of the evening. We had to ask for our check and then waited and waited for her to come pick it up. She was at another table really involved in conversation, so we paid our check at the bar and left. However this would not deter me from going there again. We really enjoyed the Cellar!"

  • "We went on a slow night so the noise level was low (a plus) since we were trying to get to know new friends. The service was good, would have liked a little more attention to wine and drinks but the food service was timely. The ambiance of this place is great, good for business and personal dining. Great martini menu."

  • "The vegan food was absolutely delicious. We are still talking about it 3 days later and we didn't have to go to Portland, OR to find it! We enjoyed the 1/2 off tapas (Happy Hour) of Tempeh BBQ Sliders and Cellar Nachos (we skipped the Crème Fraiche) and savored the entrees of Chick Pea Tagine and Masala Dosa. Dessert was topped off by the delicious Lemon Almond Tart. Our waiter Emmet was most helpful. We are definitely coming back!"

  • "We dined early in the evening on a Saturday, so the restaurant was pretty quiet, even with a small child a few tables away. The server was knowledgeable and timed the service very well. He was available, but not hovering. My twenty year old daughter requested a "virgin version" of one of the signature drinks and claimed it was superb. My chicken was perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. The adult s'mores were a big hit at the table, but the marshmallows were a bit large to be tasted on the skinny skewers provided."

  • "3 of us had a cozy Saturday night dinner nestled in one of their big booths. The service was impeccable - just the right amount of attention. We all decided to order the Waygu beef, at 3 different donenesses, and the steaks were served precisely as ordered. We're locals who dine at The Cellar when we want to stay in town, but have a big city-like dining experience. It's also a superb location for drinks and tapas. The expanded beer menu is great for us who don't indulge in their extensive selection of wines. We wish they were open for more meals than dinner!"

  • "We originally chose the Cellar as recommended by a friend. The menu is very Paleo friendly, well as Vegan friendly. The Kobe steak was to die for and cooked to perfection. I can't say enough about the duck fat fries to boot. Atmosphere was very relaxed and the wine list was very extensive. The service was prompt and friendly as well. Definitely a great restaurant for special occasions."

  • "First time we've been their, thought it would be a romantic meal for my wife and I for a late valentines date. But it turn out to be very noisy, good thing I was seated next to my wife so we could here each other talk. Food was good, a little over priced. Drinks were priced about right."

  • "Went there for a dinner. Spent $100 and had to go to Texas Roadhouse after to get a steak cause I haven't eaten anything at cellar. Crazy prices for portions that only squirrels can feel full from. Very disappointed."

  • "We have been twice now. Atmosphere is very relaxed, service is great and food is innovative. We would highly recommend an evening out here. Prices are on the upper end of the scale but have been worth it to us."

  • "Great place on Corning Market Street; Great martinis, extensive wine list. Cheese board (local products) appetizer was exellent. Main entree, scallop dish was excellent. Service was also very good. Well worth a visit (we plan on going back)!"

  • "The night started off good with the coll tablet to choice your beverage, but only went down after that. Wines available on the tablet were not available when ordered, but the wait staff didn't know until after they went to check. It took 20 minutes to get our first glass of wine. When our appetizer appeared the charcuterie it was dropped off and not explained. I had to get the hostess to get the manager to even get our waitress over to our table. Our waitress had no idea what was on the appetizer and if fact proclaimed "I have never seen that before". The food was delicious, although my main course the veg plate was not worth $26. It appears to be a restaurant where the chef owns it and the front of the house is a mess. I would not return."

  • "Our daughter had a one month appointment to work at the Corning Museum's Studio in Corning, New York. My husband, son-in-law and I decided to join her for Thanksgiving. Since it was our son-in-law's birthday the day after Thanksgiving, we wanted to take him out for dinner. We asked our daughter for dinner suggestions and she suggested The Cellar. The menu is eclectic and held something for all of us including a nice selection for vegitarians. The pork chop, short ribs, chicken and pumpkin ravioli were excellent. The wine list had a good selection of wines including NYS wines from the region. The room was pleasant and quiet. The wait staff was very helpful with the food selection and the wine list. This was a wonderful choice."

  • "there were 2 disappointments: the Kobe ribs was actually 'pulled pork'..not bad but not ribs. The other was the advertised Tandori-style chicken..not really Tandori but was OK..also I thought the menu prices were overpriced for the Corning area and the quality of the food."

  • "Visiting Corning for the first time, my husband and I picked The Cellar because of other good reviews we'd seen on the web, but the restaurant actually exceeded our expectations. It was better than almost any of the top restaurants in our home town (Philadelphia) The beet salad appetizer featured pureed green peas, an excellent combo, and the scallops entree was fabulous, as was the risotto. We had no room for desserts but they looked excellent as well. Service was perfect, attentive, informative, not intrusive."

  • "In a time of corporate owned cloned chains it is great to have an locally owned establishment that produces great and varied food in an upscale ambiance. The fusion style cooking pairs complimentary tastes for a "fun palate" . The chef/owners choice to utilize locally sourced fresh and sustainable food is a big plus. The gluten free and vegan choices are a bonus for people with those particular needs. The restaurant provided a complimentary, duck confit with candied fig appetizer that was really good, I hope it makes the regular menu. Only con, I miss the sweet potato gnocchi, hope it comes back soon."

  • "My sister and I recently visited Corning N.Y. for a girl's getaway. We researched tripadvisor to choose a restaurant for our Saturday night dinner. The Cellar received great reviews, so we decided to try it out. It is right on the main rd. in Corning, easy to find. The vibe is young and hip. The wine, appetizer and cocktail menu was presented to us on an ipad, which we both thought was very cool! I tested 2 different martinis and they were both really satisfying. We shared 3 different appetizers, but our favorite by far were the kobe sliders. They were juicy and thick, full of flavor. Also notable were the fried baby artichokes. We will definitely return to The Cellar and I recommend you try it too!"

  • "This felt and looked like a Manhattan restaurant and the food hit the mark. We opted for some "small plates" and the waitress helped us choose some very tasty ones and she was very helpful in that she did not let us over-order. I would come back here in a heartbeat. Oh. The prices were NOT Manhattan! We got out at just about $85 with wine, beer and a tip! No dessert, however, as we were quite satisfied!"

  • "Good food, friendly service beautiful surroundings in a quaint little town!! A recipe for success!! One suggestion - get rid of the ' buy one for the kitchen" addition on the menu- rather cheesy for such an upscale establishment!"

  • "We started with a couple of cocktails, which were fine, but nothing to write home about. The cheese board was so-so, but the roasted beets were very nice indeed. The Farro Risotto was quite good had excellent texture and flavor and was enough for two. The Kobe steak was also very tasty, even though cooked a bit beyond the requested medium-rare - the duck fat fries that accompanied the steak were fantastic. The wine list is nice and interestingly presented on an iPad. The service was a bit spotty as they seemed a bit under staffed."

  • "Was in Corning, NY for the Wineglass Marathon. Took a large group here on Saturday night for a meal prior to the race and then went back again post race to refuel. The menu is very creative. The vegan options can be modified to include protein, and were great as I am lactose intolerant. Had a chance to eat some dishes that I hadn't been able to in a while. Highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back again."
