A word from The Cavalier
The Cavalier is an all-day London-inspired brasserie, located in the new Hotel Zetta.

This is the third property for restaurateurs Anna Weinberg, James Nicholas & Chef Jennifer Puccio; the team behind Marlowe and Park Tavern. The team has collaborated with award winning San Francisco designer Ken Fulk, who has revamped the interior in deep leather banquettes, polished brass, zinc and white marble, giving it a posh and sultry feel.

We were pleasantly surprised by our experience at The Cavalier. The hostess was warm, sparkly, and genuinely welcoming, while our waiter was cheerful, energetic and helpful in recommending a new cocktail to try. We declared that the Fish and Chips might be the best we've ever eaten and we loved the minty pea salad. All very fresh tasting, not a bit greasy. We dined early and by 6:30 on a weeknight both bar and restaurant were lively and packed. Obviously popular.

I chose The Cavalier primarily because of BARTaccessibility. We decided to start with appetizers and picked the scotch egg and the crabmeat and Bay shrimp dishes. Simply out of this world good and worth the trip all by themselves. For dinner we had: welsh rarebit souffle, the Marlowe burger, Sunday chicken, and the leg of Californis lamb and - on the recommendation of our waiter David - we selected the beef dripping chips. Since the lamb came with virtually nothing else, we ordered the horseradish mashed pitatoes. We did share these plates so we all tasted each of the dishes. The verdict: run, don't walk for the beef dripping chips, the scotch egg and the crabmeat. The main dishes - not so much. The peach crumble was outstanding.

When we arrived, our table was ready. The waiters descended on us and pressured us to make a drink choice right away. We felt like we were being "hustled" even though it was a Sunday night and the restaurant wasn't full. We asked for more time to make menu choices, which they gave. Once we had ordered dinner, it took about 45 minutes to arrive. They brought one wrong order to our table, and that guest had to wait for her food. I have been here before and not had such uneven service. Not sure what was going on.

Cavalier Restaurant and the Hotel Zetta are located in what was once the Milano Hotel and Grill. The restaurant has been redecorated in dark red and black; still long and narrow with big windows. Great food! I had a wonderful house salad, slices of leg of lamb, steamed rhubarb/strawberry pudding, the Bodkin sauvignon blanc, and an espresso. All very reasonably priced for nicely creative items. Great service.

Unique theme; wonderful decor; and limited but interesting menu but it falls far short of Marlowe and Park Tavern. Have been for both lunch and dinner. Lunch hamburger=great and dinner pork tender= perfect. However noise deafening, hostess dismissive, service confused by large private party. No difference between bar and dining accommodations, even for only 2 the table size in dining area for dining makes you feel you are juggling plates on AGT. In fairness to them, if they could improve the reception and coordinate service a bit it is a good bar ( but not great bar scene) but it is not a restaurant designed for a evening meal. Good bar scene but bag it for dinner.

We went to the restaurant on a Sunday evening. Our reservation was for 7. The restaurant wasn't very busy at that time. There where 4 in our party. We had appetizers, our meals & dessert. Everything was very good. You must have the French fries. They are fried in beef fat & served with a demi glaze to dip into. These were the best fries I have ever had. We ordered the black cod, pork tenderloin (x2) & ribeye steak for our dinners. They were all great as well. Ask to have your picture taken with the fox.

I love everything about this restaurant. I've been several times and it just gets better and better. The cavalier salad is the best salad I've had in the city. I can't get enough. I also love the fish and chips. It's such a simple dish that usually doesn't stand out, but theirs is different. It's light and fluffy and extremely flavorful. I would highly recommend it, even if you don't normally order such a simple dish.

I was quite impressed with the pub menu and food at The Cavalier. Our waiter was excellent and not only steered us through the menu, but also shared history and stories about the restaurant. The food had a fun twist on the typical pub fare and was very good. The only issue was that it was extremely noisy - above the average bar/restaurant. Not good for intimate dining, but great for small groups that want to shout and have a fun time!

I was introduced to The Cavalier by a friend who grew up in the UK. While (as an animal lover & vegetarian) I could definitely do without the animal heads on the wall, I otherwise like this place for the delicious brunch and the friendly service. Hot, satisfying coffee. Scrumptious earl grey scones. The Cavalier kitchen is great about adjusting menu items to your individual liking. For example: I get the Breakfast Sandwich with the eggs scrambled instead of fried, no bread, no bacon. Extra cress. A side of the savory roasted tomatoes. It's a unique and wonderful meal. There's something cheerful about the sun pouring in the windows, which feature red geranium planter boxes. The staff is warm and hospitable (especially Eric & Melissa).

The blond female bartender was really great! Nice recommendations on the wine and champagne selections and she took the time to explain some of the ingredients in the cocktails. Everyone's brunch entree was very tasty and the heirloom tomato & burrata salad was to die for. Can't wait to come back to try the diner menu.

Low-key hangout, great for a meal with friends. Tasty baked oysters, though nothing that can beat raw ones. Farro and roasted beet appetizer a generous serving for three, a delectable mix of crunchy and chewy textures and of nutty and sweet flavors. Duck duck scotch egg was perfectly cooked, with just enough of the meat coating for flavor, not at all heavy; generous side of fruit compote added a lovely sweet zing. Spicy crab and cucumber tea sandwiches were a disappointment, flavors little more than just spicy, the aioli and cucumber making eating a slippery affair. Sticky toffee pudding was dry and crumbly rather than moist, but the accompanying lime and walnut ice cream was heavenly. Warm service, interesting cocktails.

Had brunch here as a group of 4. We started with two orders of the Earl Grey scones that were true English-style scones and very delicious, as well as a peach & fig salad. The salad was a huge, huge disappointment:-3 tiny-half figs, 3 unripe, two-inch wedges of peaches, topped with super-salty burrata for $14!? We don't mind paying $$ for tasty food, but that salad was a disgrace, both from price and taste standpoint. Entrees-wise, our table ordered The English, Marlowe burger, Breakfast Sandwich and Shirred Eggs, all were tasty. If anything, the chef/line cooks were a little heavy-handed with salt. In the end, we will return again if only for the Earl Grey scones.

Also had the lamb scrumpets which were good, except for clumps of fat inside. Also a good steak and heirloom tomatoes. Very nice English clubby atmosphere.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. This rings true more so than ever in SF's premier restaurant scene. Our overall experience was wildly mediocre. That said, the drinks/bartender (Scotty) was great. Came here for bday dinner. Wait staff greeted us shortly after we were seated, never introducing himself as our waiter. He asked if we would like ice water or sparkling. After that, he disappeared for 25 minutes... I had to flag down the Maitre'D to ask where our waiter had gone. 5 minutes later, he returned, and made awkward remarks about how he "heard we were feeling neglected." Overall, food was good, not great. Bone marrow was great. Everything else was "meh." Cocktails were great. Bar service was great.

I love this place! So many gastro-pubs make a lackluster dent on elevating bar food, but The Cavalier does an exceptional job of modernizing traditional English and American fare without abandoning their roots. The atmosphere is spirited without needing to rely on interior cliches. It's well-thought out from food to drinks to service to style. It's easily become one of my go-to's for lunch with colleagues.

Having just returned from London, we were curious about this restaurant's fare. We had the mushroom curry pie, fish and chips, Sunday roast chicken, and hamburger. We all thought the food was good. We had the Brussel sprout chips beforehand and they were outstanding. The restaurant has metal chairs that made a horrible screeching noise whenever someone pulled one out across the tile floor. (It reminded us of nails across a chalkboard.) I'm not sure any of would go back, but it was worth a go.

When my dining partner recommended this restaurant, I'd only passed it and thought it stuffy and maybe pretentious. Boy, was I wrong. This is a hidden gem and a very nice surprise for me. Service, from the door to the table, was excellent and far from stuffy. In fact, Jonathan, our waiter, was warm, engaging, and quite knowledgeable about the menu. His suggestions were right on, particularly for the oysters and the size of the fish and chips. The food was fantastic and a gourmet's delight. While I live near here during my stay in SF, I will return again, and again.
