We had not been to the Carlton for over 6 months so we decided to give it a try. In the past, I always ordered their beef Wellington but I saw it was no longer on the menu. I was disappointed as it was always such a great selection however they now have seafood Wellington. I do a lot of traveling to the west coast but I have never had a seafood dish as good as the Carlton's seafood Wellington. It is incredible and a absolute must if you are looking for the ultimate seafood cuisine. And, as always, the service was excellent as was the ambiance. Also, they feature excellent wine and validate the parking. The Carlton is a absolute must if you looking for an excellent dining experience.

  • Service & food/beverage have fallen off recently

Our experience since our last visit showed a discernable decline. Service was spotty & food/beverages were disappointing. Steak had no flavor, crab cakes were a major failure & wedge salad should be more traditional. Server completely screwed up our drink order and should have comped them. After the disappointing meal, we opted to have dessert elsewhere to avoid further complaints.

Food was good. Had the pork cheek for appetizer and was very tender and nice flavor. Had the mahi mahi which was cooked well. My wife had the scallops and was good though my preference would have been to cook it a little longer but sauce and risotto with it were flavorful. Wine selection and price were excellent.

We had dinner at the Carlton before a Pens game with some friends. Our waiter was friendly and informed and gave us an iPad with their extensive and somewhat reasonably priced wine list. They had their anniversary menu and food was good. They offered a shuttle up the hill to the game and validate parking.

10-25-14 - All of the employees we came into contact with were extremely pleasant and professional. Food was Excellent! Experience was one of the best we have had in a very long time. Called The Carlton to question if they had a dress code and the woman who answered was so pleasant and welcoming - stating they did not have a dress code and that all were welcome. She proceeded to ask if it was a special occasion and I told her we were going to Heinz Hall to see a comedy act. She proceeded to elaborate on the limo service they offer along with the validation of parking in their building - very nice welcoming surprise. Thanks!

We have been to the Carlton several times in the last six weeks, and honestly, the food just gets better and better. Some restaurants have the same items on their menus and only change once in a while and it gets boring. Not the Carlton. Plus there are items on the menu that you just con't see in Pittsburgh. Skate wings, anyone?

We all enjoyed our meal. It was delicious. The service was good. Our only complaint was the noise coming from a large group of people sitting directly behind us. They were so loud that we could hardly carry on a conversation. The good news is, they left before we finished our meal, so our talking could continue.

We went here on a Sat. night, lured by an article in the Post-Gazette "weekender" which seemed to say that the Prime Rib usual price of $29.99 was discounted by $10. When we ordered, I attempted to ask the waitress why the discount wasn't noted on the menu. She, apparently not hearing my question, told us that all that was left were end pieces. Thinking this would still be a good meal, we ordered and were served meat which was dried out, unevenly spiced and whose presentation was gross. The coup de grace, however, was the charge - $29.99! We were told that the usual price was $39.99!! When we asked about this, we were given snarky and sarcastic responses. For the record, the Zagat #1 rated steak house in D.C. charges $36. for Prime Rib!
