The Capital is Nice, and I say "Nice" in a very positive way. The large open dining room can accommodate almost any sized party. Large tables nearer the bar can be reserved, too. On our last visit Hal was our server and worked the place like a perfect host -- he was very busy, but very efficient -- he made swift regular rounds of his tables and hardly took a breath. The kitchen is to be commended for its culinary style and fresh, local leanings. The menu is too great to try to review here -- we always remember that we'll need to return soon immediately after we sit down -- there too many great options that cannot be sampled in one night. Hurry in, and hurry back.

Ate here before the Bruno Mars show- apparently the staff read previous comments because they seemed aware that people had been critical of the slow service. We did have a limited pre-show menu, but the selection included something for everyone- We arrived at 6pm and were out by 7:30, I would allow at least an hour and half if you are going to a show at the Times Union Center, which is only a 5 minute walk- my only complaint was the shrimp appetizer was VERY small- 4 tiny shrimp for $11?? Otherwise the food was delicious, our waitress was attentive and courteous, and I would definitely go back-

We found this gem of a restaurant on the internet. Our first few seconds parking in front of the restaurant, was met by the wonderful hostess who went out of her way to tell us we did not need to feed the meter as it was Sunday. The servicewas incredibly attentive and friendly. I have spread the word !!!

Love the food but waiting over 45 minutes for it was not great. I understand waiting a bit as there were 3 large lunch groups but seriously, its lunch time & I don't have 2 hours

We have dined here twice, and both times really enjoyed our meals. Price is affordable and the food is delicious. We have stuck to seafood options -- ahi tuna, stuffed sole and sea bass on bed of polenta. All have been perfect. Both nights, it has been rather slow, which is accentuated by the big space. I prefer a livelier atmoshpere, which is the only reason I deducted a star.

Great ambiance, phenomenal service. Claim to be "farm to table/local". Had many Appetizers...crab cakes tasted gummy and artificial, lettuce wraps chicken chewy and sauce salty, unimpressed by goat cheese. Best thing was calamari fra Diavlo. Good wine and beer options would love to see this place do well. Please attempt an edgier menu that woyld be a foodies dream.

Nice to find a spot that is trying to source locally. Very much appreciated. Atmosphere was great. It was a Monday night so rather slow, but perfect for me. The Gnocchi with Bison was excellent! The grilled romaine salad could use some work.

We had a 6:15 reservation on the night of Bruce Springsteen at the TU Center- the streets were teaming with people! We were 10 minutes late, and they did not have a free table. People who had eaten were just sitting, killing time until closer to the concert. The waiter promised us a table, and we got one-at 6:45. We only had time for drinks and an appetizer, as we had theater tickets. The food - crab cakes- were tender, flavorful and nicely accented with a good green goddess dressing. We were impressed-the waiter worked very hard. I would go back for dinner.

My husband and I had dinner here the night of the Bruce Springsteen concert. Although they knew well in advance how busy they were going to be, they certainly weren't staffed for the crowd. They did have a limited menu that our server said was better suited to handle such volume, but no mention of this was made on Open Table at the time we made the reservation. Limited menus are one thing, but changing the entire type of food that is offered is another story. It took an hour before our appetizers arrived, and were frustrated that not even a basket of bread was offered until asked. However, the food was good, and the wait staff friendly and totally apologetic.

Dining with my daughter before the springsteen show down the block at times union center...who would have thought that allowing almost two hours before show time...that timing wise...my daughter and I needed to skip desert and ask for the check so that we would not be late for the show. And the other complaint...it is amazing how the lettuce leaves with chicken look and taste like the baked Brie! We would have sent it back...but didn't want to affect the timing of the rest of our dinner! All in all...a slightly disappointing start to the evening. At least the wine at dinner was cold!

Our experience at The Capital: American Eatery & Lounge was very positive. We had reservations for a medium sized group of 8 for a work-related group dinner and they were prepared for us when we walked in. The food was very good and the service was good. Although, we noticed our server not only took our order was making our drink orders too so they appeared a little "light" staffed but that overall did not impact our service. The atmostphere is nice, clean and updated environment. It is one of the better places I have experienced during my work adventure in Albany.

Thank you, Cayla! We enjoyed our return meal after "testing the waters" during Restaurant Week. This very busy night kept staff hopping, which slowed service a bit, but those friendly faces generally kept pace with enthusiasm. The bartender and two waitresses gave the kitchen all they could handle, with nearly every floor table occupied by 6pm on this Saturday. The menu is commendable, especially the attempt to source locally. We skipped seafood offerings this visit for that very reason, but we need to sample the wasabi pea salmon. We went with pork loin and bison bolognaise -- each lusciously prepared. The cornish game hen is next on our gotta-try-it list. New York beer and wine options. Next time I save room for dessert, too.

We had not dropped in since the Envy Lounge closed, and what we have missed! There is the same long dark interior. The same two bars to hang at. The same tables and booths. But now with fresh locally-sourced menu creations. It's really a lovely improvement. And who wouldn't want to visit during downtown Albany's "Restaurant Week" when a bargain may be had?! Holly was our delightful and efficient waitress. I went with the restaurant week special Stuffed Pork Loin while my wife opted for the Swiss Chicken Roulade. Both were so good that we spent time with the menu thinking about what we will order when we return.

My boyfriend and I came to this restaurant for restaurant week in Albany. Everything we got was very good; however, the pasta I ordered was very small in portion size compared to the pork that my boyfriend ordered. Other than that, no complaints about the food. One small complaint about the distance between the tables. It felt like we were sitting with four other people we were so close to the surrounding tables. There were many other tables open throughout the restaurant so t would have been nice to been placed in a more private location.

Wanted a nice dinner for Valentines day with my honey and found this one via the web. We arrived about 1 hour early to have a drink at the bar with friends to find a nice beer list of craft brew all from NY and quite extensive wine list. The ambiance was very nice leaning towards intimate. We (all 6 of us) sat in the side room and enjoyed a very nice meal. The Appetizers were great, and the meal was awesome. At our table, we shared the appetizers, Duck, Lobster Ravioli and Scallops. All were cooked to perfection. Our meal was delivered shortly after we finished the apps and again was cooked perfectly and portioned equally perfectly. All in all I rate this place a 5. I would definitely go back again.
