  • "We dined here during restaurant week. The selection was good. My salmon was very good. My husband's pork was small and somewhat bland. The desserts were great- berry crumble and cherry bread pudding!"

  • "You can't beat the Canfield House for great food and service at a super price. Their dinner for two menu is one of the best deals on Aquidneck Island. The food is great the service is attentive without being overbearing. A perfect blend!"

  • "This place was amazing! When I booked it I asked for a quiet table for my husbands and my 30th anniversary. We had a VERY private and quiet table right next to a fireplace. The food and service was great. The owner's came over and introduced themselves and offered to give us a tour of the rooms. So after dinner that's just what we did! What a beautiful bed and breakfast! Each room was even prettier than the next! Thank you Maggie and Stephanie for a great first night in Newport!"

  • "My wife and I went to the Canfield House while in Newport to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. I got a 6:45 reservation to ensure that we didn't have to wait for a table, but probably didn't need it since there were quite a few tables available when we arrived. Our server was very friendly and readily agreed to take our picture when we told her of our special celebration. The atmosphere was quite romantic. The food was superb. I had the mixed grill entree and my wife had the scallops over ravioli special that evening. As we were having our coffee our server surprised us with a chocolate mousse special by the chef and a rendition of "Happy Anniversary to You". A great dining experience and an evening we will always remember."

  • "After 17 years living in this area, we finally discovered The Canfield House through Open Table. The turn-of-the-century decor evokes the Newport mansion era. The bar has an ornate, vaulted, plaster ceiling and a gas fireplace. We arrived a bit too early and the bar had plenty of room for us to sit while waiting for our table. The main dining is paneled in rich woods with another amazing ceiling. Valentine's Night featured an excellent guitar player who entertained the dining room with a great selection of singer-songwriter hits, without seeming imposing. The food was top notch. Our only complaint is that it took over an hour, after we sat, to get our appetizers. The waitstaff seemed harried and didn't have the time to linger at any tables."

  • "I went for dinner on Valentines Day and couldn't have been happier. This isn't near the water but you usually can't see the water at the restaurants that boast waterfront dining. The best part was, the food was fabulous, the menu was varied and interesting, the service was attentive and the prices were reasonable compared to the more recognized restaurants in Newport. I'd go again in a heartbeat."

  • "Canfield House is warm, welcoming, and most enjoyable. Service is prompt and affable; food plentiful and tasty. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, not to like."

  • "Wife and I really enjoyed the weekday specials. They are reasonably priced, wonderfully prepared and delicious -- and the Canyon Creek wine was a bonus."

  • "Canfield house was recommended and it was so good I would like to also recommend it. I had the prime rib and it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the rack of lamb special and totally enjoyed it. We had the mussel and little neck appetizer. The broth was so good that we actually had a few spoonfuls after finishing the clams. No room for desert, but the coffee is probably the best cup I have ever had. Great atmosphere too. It was quiet, but then again it was on a Saturday night in January."

  • "Maggie, Gary and their chefs and staff always give us a wonderful experience--the setting is always high-class, but very relaxed, the service friendly and VERY attentive and the food ALWAYS excellent!!! We've dined there for very special occasions but also on nights we just had to GET OUT!! ALWAYS A WONDERFUL TIME!!"

  • "The atmosphere at The Canfield house is truly elegant, the wait staff are prompt and friendly, food is very good and their Tue ~ Thur, "2 for $37.00" dinner is one of the best deals on the island. You can't go wrong!"

  • "We went here for a midweek special they had, was surprised at the quality of the wine and food for the price. had a great meal and fun with friends. will definitely return."

  • "The Canfield House never disappoints. We arrived when the Christmas Tree was still up in the main dining room. On its own the dining room is Victorian splendor. With the huge, tall tree it goes beyond. We had the winter special which included a bottle of wine. All of the specials are good. Tonight we had prime rib. Maggie, the owner, is always there to greet us reminding us we are having dinner in a beloved restaurant where the owner knows your name. Oh my!"

  • "I went with my husband and 21 year old son for a special night out. I was told it would be a great experience and it certainly was. We were quite impressed with the huge Christmas tree in the dining room and all the tables gave you privacy. Our waitress Denise described all the specials very professionally and precisely. She was very attentive but not overly so. Couldn't ask for better service. The portions were extremely large for a fine dining restaurant, and excellent flavor all around. We will definitely be back. The only thing that could easily be improved would be the uncomfortable seats."

  • "My wife & I and another couple recently had dinner here and as in the past it was great, not just the food, the service and the ambiance is outstanding. The main room which is beautiful was also adorned with a beautiful Christmas tree and lights. We were back in the state for a short time and enjoyed dinner here, again. Enjoyed it so much that we are taking other friends here later this week. There are a number of wonderful restaurants in Newport, but we think this is one of the best and is consistant in all respects."

  • "We continue to go to the Canfield House annually for their Christmas season. Maggie ans her staff are wonderful. It is a special treat to see the tree in the dining room every year. The food, service and value are exceptional in this restaurant."

  • "My dining companions and I were transported to another time by the lovely dining room and Christmas decorations at the Canfield House. The staff was attentive and helpful from the moment we stepped through the door. We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees and the scrumptious desserts. It was our first visit but definitely not our last."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday. The food was wonderful - and we even found fantastic meals on the special menu since we went on a Tuesday (Dinner for 2 + a bottle of wine for $35)"

  • "My wife and I dined here on a quiet Sunday evening. We were warmly greeted by the owner, and brought to a spacious table at the head of the dining room. A bottle of Pinot Noir that was recommended by our server was just what we were looking for. I had a filet, and opted to add a lobster tail-perfectly cooked. My wife had a salmon filet which she said changed her life. This restaurant had the whole package for what a local restaurant foodie critic would want. We only regret not going sooner, and will be back!"

  • "Great meal at a historic Newport restaurant. Everyone, from the manager who seated us to our waitress were very friendly and treated us like family. My wife's Filet and my short ribs were excellent. The dessert was exceptional. I would surely return on my next trip to Newport."

  • "We love sitting in the corner table in the bar by the fireplace. Can't wait for the center dining room Christmas Tree - always lovely, as it the staff and the food."

  • "My wife and I had gone to restaurant week in Newport and selected four restaurants in which to dine. Two for lunch and two for dinner. The Canfield was the last restaurant we were visiting and we were very happily surprised. The dinner menu was interesting and diverse and caught our attention. Mind you that it was a three course prix fixe menu. At the end of our Gastronomic adventure my wife and I, after taking everything into careful consideration choose the Canfield house as the best meal. Which means we did not find any flaws in execution of all three courses as far as cooking, presentation and the service provided. We look forward to dining here again soon!"
