  • Good food, bad execution.

The food was good, but I can't recommend this place. First of all - NO COFFEE! I can understand not serving coffee at HipCityVeg, but when you have venison & whiskey on your menu, why no coffee? I was about to see a play and wanted to make sure I'd stay awake; had I known they didn't serve coffee, I never would have come. Second, the first course was charcuterie only (no soup) - but the menu just listed them by name (no ingredients). When I asked the waitress for help, she still didn't tell me the ingredients, just told me which 2 she liked most. The one I chose had lots of onions, which I can't digest. So they steered me in the wrong direction. Also the lights are too dim and the music's too loud (though I like the Velvet Underground).

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday-- it was perfect. The food is amazing, the beer list is amazing, and the staff are so helpful and kind. I especially recommend the Chef's cheese/meat board. I've been describing it to everyone in excruciating detail--three meats, two cheeses, pickles, figs, juicy raisins, two kinds of grapes, almonds, walnuts, unlimited toasty bread.

  • awesome food and beer!

This place is awesome. The bar looks great, the seating and decor are also very nice. The food selection is not very big, but they have specials such as pulled pork in coca cola sauce (Or was it Bison Ribs in Coke, not sure)..The food was extremely good. Although the mains portion is not very big, they come with a house salad and 2 sides, which makes the dish more than fulfilling.Prices for food are reasonable in my opinion: ~26$ for bison back ribs, or a Wagyu Ribeye. But the best thing about this place, is when you factor in the beer selection. They have a huge selection of beers on draft. I am not sure about the count, but i would say around 30. My favorite was the Belgium beers available on draft. Absolutely delicious.

  • Fantastic new addition to

Fantastic new addition to the Philly Foodie scene where hi- meets low-brow for the perfect balance. Outstanding selection of beers, many of which we've never encountered at any other Philly pub/restaurant. Comforting and delicious menu. Creative combination of flavors. Five stars for the bison ribs. Three for the pork chops. Five for the shepard's pie. Surprisingly moderately priced. Much more intimate setting than other upscale pubs in Philly. Live music is a bonus. Oh and ease of parking is a bonus as well. Jefferson hospital garage is directly across the street. And at $12 for 12 hours, it's a steal.

Interesting concept and menu, well executed. Food was wonderful! For the quality seemed quite reasonable. Server was great - friendly, and knew her stuff. This is a restaurant for when you want to make your meal your primary activity - not a quick turn.

Service was slow. Food was not that great and not a big portion size. They could not accommodate american express however the bill folds did mention that they took american express.

The highlights: Staff: our server Alethea was knowledgeable and enjoyable Beer: the beer selection was a unique mix with a little bit for everyone Charcuterie: in our initial order we decided to go with the lacon (lamb bacon), salami picante, and a soppressata but the staff and chartcuterie chef were so delighted with our choices that they brought up an additional board with some surprises including a fireball salami that was amazing Ambiance: the layout of the restaurant, music and lighting were well selected to match the vibe of the food and beer Price/value: I felt that the cost was very reasonable for a night out and while charcuterie boards will not leave you feeling overly full we were immensely satisfied

Restaurant was completely empty and we were placed on the back wall of the back room, completely by ourselves in the empty rom. It was very awkward. They didn't have a lot of the wines that were offered. Finally, the appetizers were tiny, especially for two people... $21 for a 2.5x 2.5 inch piece of tellagio, four almonds, several slices of soppresata, and a few slices of sausage. No bread was offered, not going back.

  • Hope The Hosts Get A Clue!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014

Oddly, we arrived 15 minutes early and asked for our table. We were seated on the second floor which was completely absent of patrons, despite several tables available downstairs. After a full dinner, we left the establishment and there were still open tables downstairs. Nary another patron arrived upstairs during 1 1/2 hours. While we had excellent waiters and table service, the hosts were really incompetent. I asked the hostess why were were being seated upstairs and she replied, "we have to follow the numbers." I have never heard that in my decades of dining experiences. Tip for the restaurant, replace your hosts. The food was to our liking and the beer selection met our needs. To shame, we had a "VIP" floor but with no fanf
