Off the beaten path, but worth the trip. The Roadhouse is located at the end of the county road in a historic building in Port Costa. Great food to choose from a simple straight forward menu, and a dizzing array of drinks from a well stocked bar.

Took my family to the Bull Valley Roadhouse for a special birthday treat and had a great dining experience. Wonderful ambience tucked away in slightly funky Port Costa, nice interior; we sat on the back patio with a view of the gardens. The food is a little pricey, but all the dishes we ordered were great. We liked the concept of sharing and followed our friendly waitress's suggestion of ordering two main dishes, two appetizers, and two sides. This was enough even to keep our two hungry teenage boys satisfied, and the quality of the food will definitely have us come back, despite the lengthy drive from Oakland.

I Thot the food was good but NOT great. I wouldn't make the trip again. So many other better places to eat in Dan, WCreek, Laf.

Pre-dinner Negronis and Manhattans made by Adam were very good. On the suggestion of our server DeDe, my wife and I ordered one Iceberg wedge; the serving was enough for both of us. Also following with her recommendations, we dined on entrees of Farro and Pork Stew. Both were of good sized portions and very delicious. Though travel to and back from the Roadhouse is on twisting county roads from Highways 80 and 4, my wife and I recommend the Roadhouse as a place to have an enjoyable meal. We will go back.

If not for OpenTable, we would have not found this place. My wife and I decided to be adventurous and randomly pick a restaurant in OpenTable that we have'nt heard, and we're extremely happy with our experience here. Everything was great---- food, service, ambiance. Otherwise, why would you ever drive to Port Costa?

We have been to the Bull Valley Road House several times...We also visited this restaurant in several of it's prier incarnations. The ambiance, fits in with the setting in eclectic Port Costa. The service was excellent. Attentive, without being rushed. The food was excellent as well. Portions are meant to be shared. They have a wide selection of Wine and Cocktails. with several cocktails, and some desert the price can be a bit stiff, but well worth the drive for that special occasion....

Took mom for her birthday brunch, also in tow was my sister, my two year old niece and of course the "Hubbs" My sister and I are on a low carb diet right now, so were worried we would be limited in what we could get, plenty of low carb items on the menu and I believe everything is locally grown and organic so a ++ for the menu.

Love this place, food was fresh with great flavors, not cheap, but worth the trip out to Port Costa. Well thought out wine and beer menu, and the four Roses Bourbon Irish coffee with cardamon cream is top notch. Lovely ambiance, very relaxing and romantic. Service was excellent, we felt very taken care of. We had a great brunch here too a few weeks back.

This was our fourth trip to the Bull Valley Roadhouse. We don't return to restaurants we don't love and this is a bit of a drive which means we really love it. I can't evaluate the menu as a whole because I loved the first dish I ordered and have had the same thing each time I've returned--chicken tenders and cheddar waffle. The New Orleans fizz is wonderful as is the coffee.

I travel and work around the world in the food industry and have for almost 20 years. Bull Valley has it all and I don't say that lightly. It has an amazing staff meeting every need from start to finish. Ashley took the reservations and meet every expectation we asked for and more. The bar service was excellent. Amazingly with a full house we were seated promptly. They honored our time. The table was perfect Our server was prompt, informed and skilled at asking all the right questions. The food! AWESOME! The mussels were the high point for us. We would drive back just to have the mussels again. So many wonderful things to say about this fabulous spot. Go and enjoy a very special jewel by the water. Hats off to the staff.

We decided to be adventurous and try to find this place. Everything about the Bull Valley RH is exceptional. The ambiance is old style NOLA. We felt transported to a different place and time. From the old style cocktails, the very attentive service, Billy Holiday playing softly in the background.... Just amazingly relaxing and enjoyable. But the food.... Awhhh the food! We both agreed that this some of the best food we have ever had! From the padron peppers, the fresh halibut ceviche, Mac gratin, halibut and the best pecan pie ever. And then there was fried chicken. Probably the most I've paid for fried chicken, but it was for her and it was so well done we agreed that we would order it again and again. David and his staff get it right!

From the cocktail, thru the entree...perfection! We started with the pear, hazelnut and Gorgonzola salad..very tasty and ample to share. We then had the fried green tomatoes, great favor with a wonderful sauce...hot, juicy and just the right portion size. Our waiter guided us to have the fried green beans with chili salt with our entree...ribeye steak with mushrooms. Smart move as they paired very well together. We shared every dish and actually had a small 'to go' box for what we were unable to finish. We were also impressed with the martini served in a lovely antique crystal glass as well as a great wine list. We tried an affordable French Bordeaux ..that perfectly complimented our meal. We can't wait to return!

Lots of fun to go with another couple and share the entree. We had four in our group and ordered, two salads. two meals (Chicken and Pork Stew), two sides macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes, some fried string beans, and we shared one dessert. We left satisfied and fortunately not too stuffed. We all enjoyed out meals and because the restaurant is considered family style, we enjoyed tasting all of the different foods. We also ordered a drink which was fun and very tasty followed by a bottle of excellent wine. Nice quaint and fun atmosphere. A bit pricey, but all very tasty so spending a little more was okay with us. For those on a limited budget or a young kid on a date: check the menu online to see if it is affordable for you.

Dining at the Bull Valley Roadhouse is an epic experience. It was fun to enjoy a delicious meal with my sister and staff recommended food. My favorite part was meeting Earl and listening to how the wonderful town of Port Costa is being transformed with the restaurant as a destination spot. He is the next G.W. McNear (town founder) I hope in 50 years that this place has the reputation of Duarte's in Pescadero plus the foodie fan club it is already attracting.

The trip to Port Costa was interesting. Upon arriving we were asked if we wanted inside or outside dining, we chose outside. The dining area was rustic but clean. The food was very tasty. The bar drinks were pre-prohibition style. Wine list was 3 out of 5 stars. We had the lamb dish, very good. The mussels - good and the Bruschetta - very good. Service was well done.

This is the kind of place you want to go to have something special. You won't find "buttery chardonnay" here, but you will find a special wine that is difficult to get & you likely won't have heard of it, because its a special find. The food is local & fresh, with some great chefs in the house. The cocktails, are simply amazing! Fresh ingredients, handmade syrups, incredible bartenders help create that perfect combo with the lovely food. Go there when you're feeling adventurous, or when you want to treat that special someone.

Loved the salad with figs - yum - and the fried chicken and biscuits - really exceptional. The only reason I gave four (rather than five) stars was the beans that came with the chicken. I just didn't care for them much; nothing special. Wish the wine list had more to pick from in the $30 to $40 range.

It is rare for us to find restaurant food that is better than what my husband or I prepare at home. We seek out places that inspire us to try some new foods or combinations. Bull Valley was a pleasant surprise. It has been 20 years since we have eaten there, our experience in the past was that the service was pretty poor, though the food was passable. Many friends urged us to give them another chance. We really enjoyed the new menu, the sunflowers were amazing as was the Farro risotto. My husbands pork stew was just to his liking. The fact that they have Calvados on the dessert menu made my husbands night. We would definitely recommend Bull Valley to our friends and will go back soon.

Starters, salads, entrees, sides all very good. Fresh produce, interesting variations and presentations. Walnut and fig salad had a wonderful vinaigrette, eggplant and tomato starter dish was like a bruschetta and very flavorful. As a vegetarian I didn't eat the pork chop but companions said great taste, but had a lot of fat. Desserts less spectacular. Peach upside down cake just fair, chocolate pot de creme was pretty good. Homemade honey ice cream the definite winner, very light with a lot of flavor. Just enough for a taste of most things. Had we been people with larger appetites, portions would have been completely inadequate. We usually share appetizers and desserts anyway, but for the price, the portions needed to be larger.
