Diner Reviews
  • "We dined here prior to an 8:00 show. The restaurant was convenient to the theater, and easily accommodated our party. The food was excellent as was the service. It was worth it just for this, but the prices were well under the expected Times Square amounts."

  • "We went last Saturday morning for brunch. It was just delicous! I had the cinnamon and raisin french toast. Best I have had in a very long time!"

  • "Food was great, service was very attentive and friendly! Maitre'd overheard me wishing my niece a happy birthday, and presented her with a complimentary dessert, complete with candle!"

  • "My friend and I were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was prompt with supplying our beverages. When ordering, we chose an appetizer in addition to our entrees. After a more than reasonable wait, we asked our server about our appetizer. When he returned, he had our entire order. Needless to say, the appetizer wound up being wasted. (We probably should have had him just take it back.) Our entrees were fine."

  • "The food here was very tasty and the portions are very large. Service was great and fast. We told them we have show tickets and they made sure we were in and out so we would not be late. Our server was friendly. We had made a reservation and our table was ready when we arrived."

  • "My wife & I had a really good experience some years back at the Brooklyn Diner on 57th so decided to get lunch @ 43rd St location prior to theatre matinee. We arrived around noon and we're shown to our table in the corner of restaurant - good location! Waiter was good, polite, prompt. Since they had an egg dish on menu, we asked if they would make omelets. waiter checked & said they would make eggs, but offered no menu or choices. I just ordered the scrambled eggs with salmon listed & my wife had Chinese chicken salad. Salad was large and tasty but only had 4 small slices of chicken. Eggs were dry and bagel not toasted. Food just average, but service good!"

  • "Party of 7 for dinner before theater including 3 children. Burgers, pigs in a blanket, steak all good. Chicken pot pie is the BEST! Our server was wonderful - attentive, friendly."

  • "I have eaten here several times and am not sure if they have raised their prices but for a midtown diner, which is all this is, dinner was expensive. Not sure that I will be going back any time soon."

  • "We had a nice lunch before theater. Service good, food ditto, a little pricey for a diner but it's NY it's expected. We would recommend it. They have breakfast menu til 11:15 a.m. Then a lunch menu"

  • "Place was packed for lunch, but there was no delay with seating. Service was prompt and food came out in a reasonable time. Great selection of lunch items."

  • "We enjoyed our lunch at this fine establishment. We did not enjoy getting the bill. We understood that we were paying for location (Times Square). However, the location premium was about 50% over value. A hot dog in a blanket for $14? Really?? A Cobb salad in the $23 range. And the list goes on and on. The food is very good and the servers are fine. This is a perfect example of supply and demand. The supply of tourists is endless so the seats will stay filled. Enjoy your meal but get to an ATM before you dine."

  • "We have eaten at both Brooklyn Diners many, many times and find their "comfort-food plus" menu and ambiance to be the perfect pre-theater or pre-concert dining experience. This visit we were pleasantly surprised to find an old friend, maitre d' Jose (formerly of Cafe 123) greeting us warmly at the door and making sure we got top-notch attention. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious as usual. The evening crowd is usually touristy and this Friday was no exception but these NYers are happy to eat someplace where the food is consistently good, the wait-staff respects curtain-times, and the atmosphere is anything but stuffy."

  • "Think kicked up diner food and add $10 to each entree. The food was good. Not exceptional but good. The portions were extremely large. They could cut the size and drop the prices and this would be a great place."

  • "Our time there was too short, due to arriving 25 minutes late for a pre-theater dinner. We still got our table and our waiter was very friendly and efficient. In fact, I had chosen this place because I had very good memories from eating at the other branch of the Brooklyn diner 6 years ago. It didn't disappoint, we had excellent burgers. Hoping to come back for brunch too!"

  • "Great for before Theatre- a little pricey, but food is good.8"

  • "This is a Times Square tourist eatery with an upscale "diner" menu. $11 oatmeal and $19 omelettes. While I'm willing to pay those prices and take business clients there, I would expect snappier service. The coffee refills kept coming regularly, but there was a lag in clearing the dishes and bringing/collecting the check after we were done eating. Other than that, everything was OK but short of outstanding. I went there for a business breakfast, and will probably try it again for lunch."

  • "Recommended by our daughter. My husband and I needed a place to meet and lunch with my nephew who was visiting from Houston and staying in New Jersey. We enjoyed our lunches and sat for quite awhile. Our nephew is a cancer survivor and eats very slowly. The waiter was wonderful. He was patient and efficient. We were never rushed but always treated respectfully. The ambiance was lovely. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. The proximity to Broadway and the availability of parking at Meyer's garage made the destination excellent."

  • "As a first timer I was expecting your typical diner. What I found were creative meals, wonderful soups and very generous portions. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. "

  • "Treated my wife, children and niece to a last-minute dinner on Friday. We had good food at a reasonable price. It was easy to get a table, the service was great, and no one rushed us out. Couldn't ask for better. We'll be back. "

  • "Love this place, and we come a lot. One reason is the food - the staff - the NYC atmosphere...oh yes that three!"
    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "Our food was quite disappointing compared to our previous visits. Pot roast recipe or cooks must have change. But I am sure it is a good sandwich choice for Times Square."

  • "Food was disappointing and service was also poor. I was very surprised. "

  • "The menu choices were limited and over-priced. The service was very slow. The restaurant was noisy. There was no bread placed on the table while we were waiting. I ordered a salad. The food was tasty, but not a large portion. The chicken on the salad was dry and bland. My friend ordered mac and cheese with pastrami. There were 2 strips of pastrami spread on top of mac and cheese. The restaurant is located in Times Square and I think it attracts tourists. I felt the price was high for what I received. I would not recommend this restaurant. "

  • "Pleasantly surprised! I admit it - I wasn't expecting much because of the location and name - thought it was going to be touristy. Wrong! Food was interesting and delicious, service was fine, atmosphere in keeping with the theme but not tacky. Go - you'll be pleasantly surprised too."

  • "What a Find!!!! My wife's birthday and I planned out everything - breakfast/brunch, theater, shopping, dinner. And after getting fantastic tickets from TKTS, we headed over to The Brooklyn Diner. The hostess could not have been more friendly or charming. The waiter could not have been more prompt and courteous and helpful. And the French Toast and Eggs Benedict that we ordered were sublime. Just simply the BEST."

  • "The. Best. Chicken. Soup. Ever. Ask for extra challah. And everything else on the menu is delish: Some highlights include the Asian Chicken Salad, the Perfect Plate, the Burger and the Chicken Pot Pie. Portions are HUGE, so share away, especially the Black & White Milkshake. Now, if they would only bring back the lamb burger, turkey burger and pizza. (A girl can dream.) The staff is warm, welcoming and like family."

  • "My son took me and my daughter out for Mother's Day brunch/ lunch before attending the theatre. I was disappointed to see there were no "brunch" items on the menu. Our waiter suggested we might go to the deli down the street if I wanted eggs. We decided to stay and have lunch. I did have a delicious chicken salad sandwich, my daughter had a tuna salad sandwich and my son had a bacon cheeseburger. I also had a Bloody Mary. The food was excellent, the service was great, but the bill was nearly $100. At that price, I do not think I would come back. "

  • "We paid $53 (without tip) for 6 pancakes, 6 slices of bacon, one ice tea and one coffee. I was excited about eating at the diner but it was half full and we waited a very long time for our meals and when I put my fork in the top pancake, it wasn't cooked. I can't tell you how disappointed I was because the server was terrific, the booth cozy, the mood perfect....but after breakfast and my $53 bill, I was ready to come home to my Bob Evans for great pancakes and bacon for $8 a plate."

  • "This was our third time dining at the Brooklyn Diner. We always come back because we can rely on good service and good food. It was even better this time because we made reservations on the Internet."

  • "We arrived at 11:30 and found the place surprisingly empty for pre-matinee Saturday. No waiter for 10 minutes....but, we thought, no worries. We knew what we wanted. We put our order in...and despite flagging him down twice, then another waiter, then a manager...didn't get our burger and hot dog until 12:35. No apologies or considerations offered. We won't be back."
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "For a restaurant called the Brooklyn Diner, the menu had few choices and none of the best diner foods. How does that happen? The food ordered was quite good, well prepared and tasty. But the breakfast foods, sandwiches, desserts you may expect at a diner are not to be found. Service was also rather slow."
