Diner Reviews
  • "Menu somewhat limited, and more expensive than we anticipated, but food was excellent quality"

  • "I was not happy with the choices on the menu. It was very limited for a diner. Went to a diner because thought there would be a large menu. Menu was very small. Also, the prices were ridiculously overpriced for the food that our party had."

  • "Brooklyn diner located in Times Square is very central to the action. Restaurant is well kept and clean. Service was great and food preparation timely. I had the hash and eggs off the brunch menu and it was delicious! The staff is very attentive and will accommodate anything you need. Highly recommend."

  • "The Burger and Lasagne was really good when it showed up 50 minutes after we ordereded it..."

  • "Located near Town Hall and the Sondheim, easyy access to the shows. Nice menu with many choices to suit many palletes, with Noodle Kugel noted. An Uptown taste of Brooklyn for epicereans!"

  • "We went for a quick bite before a play. We ordered their signature chicken soup, which took forever to arrive (why.?). At $12.50 a bowl, we expected perfection. It was just okay, served with two generous slabs of dry challah toast. Their noodle kugel was good."

  • "Great food, great price for Manhattan, nice selection for all different tastes - Brooklyn style"

  • "It's always hard finding a nice place to have pre-theatre dinner or post-theatre dinner in NYC without hitting the fast food chains. The Brooklyn Diner is our first choice. The kids like, but most of all the adults love it. I highly recommend to all."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "All others stay away, unless you have a burning desire to spend $21 on a foot long hot dog with "plastic" Inedible skin. Ok so the shakes are good, but you can get that anywhere. Location is good right in the heart of the Times Square action."

  • "$24 for a pastrami sandwich seems a bit much, even for NYC. Service was great. Food was good."
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "Crazy high prices for a Times Sq setting. Maybe it's good for tourists, but for four New Yorkers who needed a convenient place to eat after a Town Hall concert , we were not impressed."

  • "Great atmosphere, with a nice energy perfect for our family with teenagers. Especially enjoyed the spaghetti & meatballs."

  • "Change the name. Brooklyn diner is misleading. While I'm used to city prices, $21.00 for a six year old to have a burger is nuts. You are right in the middle of one of the best known tourist areas, Times Square and the Theater District. No kids menu means crazy prices for a burger on your lunch menu. How about just putting up a sign that says not recommended for families, NO KIDS MENU. The $21.00 burger was on the lunch menu....never got to see the dinner menu and never will. For those prices I'll spend whatever I need to and head for a good restaurant."

  • "On Spring Break, decided to eat breakfast here. Upon arrival we were told we'd have to put our Starbucks into a "plain" cup. The service was great, but the prices for breakfast are through the roof. We ordered French toast, three(3) eggs, bacon, pancakes and water. We split the food among two (2) adults and one (1) child. We ended up paying $48.00 PLUS gratuity, which I thought was over the top. For the rest of the trip we ate at the Red Flame which is right around the corner, and MUCH more economical."

  • "Tourist Trap and way overpriced......... Would never go back"

  • "good food - overall nice place - i think due to its location it's a little pricier than avg. i had a very good avocado cheeseburger - the missus had stuffed trout - stuffed with scallops and schrimp. service was excellent - waiter with a sense of humor and great attitude."

  • "I was really looking forward to breakfast, but sadly my scrambled eggs were dry, and the bagel hard. I definitely think my meal was overpriced, and sadly I would not be keen to return any time soon."

  • "Usually we love the Brooklyn Diner. However, last night the food was a disappointment. I placed my order & when it came to the table it was wrong. I ordered a bacon burger( no cheese!), medium rare (I even told the waiter it should be rare enough to walk off the plate). When I got it, it was a bacon cheeseburger. They took it back & remade my order. This time, the burger was cheeseless, but overcooked & dry, not to mention that the fries & onion rings were cold. I didn't send it back again because I didn't want my husband to finish his & have to sit there & watch me eat, plus we had to get to a show. Horribly disappointed, but I guess I'll write it off as an "off night" for the kitchen & will probably try again"

  • "We go here every time we go to NYC for the day. Although we were disappointed that the Lemon and Blueberry pancakes were taken off the menu, there is plenty of choices for a foodie to try!"

  • "The Brooklyn Diner on 43rd and Broadway is the perfect location to have a meal before a Broadway show and dessert afterwards. It's warm, energetic and the quality is excellent. The absolute best milkshakes in NYC and I love that they bring over the silver cup it was made in, it's like getting an extra serving. Everything we ate was delicious and a generous portion. I recommend do not miss dessert but come back if you're like me and filled up on the salad and entree. The Cheesecake and the Chocolate Blackout Cake are both excellent, the coffee is good and the environment is festive. A great place to eat anytime. P.S. The breakfast is also outstanding!"

  • "We happened upon this place after a show and were treated to a very nice experience. The food is wonderful, staff attentive but not overly so, and the location is perfect if your buzzing around Times Square. I heard they have another location near Central Park and if they do as nice a job as this place I'm certain diners will love that restaurant as well."

  • "Wanted Brunch or Breakfast on Saturday @ 11:45, but the Brooklyn Dinner has a policy of serving breakfast food only until 11:15 am. We were very disappointed that we couldn't get breakfast on a Saturday morning @ 11:45. The Brooklyn Dinner should make their policy more clear on Open Table, so that customers are aware when booking a reservation."

  • "A simple breakfast for 2 adults (eggs) and 2 children (pancakes) almost $100! Even by NYC standards outrageous. Especially did not like having no choice but polenta with tomato sauce w/ eggs. Food was average - served just warm rather than hot. Staff is friendly and fast but quick turnover not customer service seems to be the key. This is just not the best place for breakfast and we would not return."

  • "Not a bad place. It's Times Square so it's crowded and noisy. Food is good. Service was inattentive and slow, but it also seemed understaffed for the number of guests. You are better off here than at one of the chains, but it's a tourist eatery with tourist prices."

  • "A group of us visited a year ago, we were delighted with red velvet pancakes and other delicious menu options that were not available this trip. I must say, for many of us in our party of more than 40 who dined separately over the weekend, we all reached the same conclusion - Sadly, the food was over-priced and not as tasty as our last visit."

  • "Sure, this place is for tourists, but it is fun and the food is good. Our service was exceptionally good, too. I have already told others about the place."

  • "Unfortunately, we didn't have time to eat much because of our theatre tickets curtain time was 7 PM. We had less than a half hour. The waiter was wonderful and suggested we order desserts. We did and they were absolutely fabulous. Especially the coconut cake and the cheesecake. Delicious!"

  • "For a quick meal pre-theater don't miss this restaurant. Not diner prices nor menu!!! Great service and generous portions"

  • "+ves: the food quality is generally good, The milkshakes are heavenly. -ves: expensive, very expensive. This restaurant represents poor value for money. When compared with somewhere like Blue Smoke where the food is great, service exemplary and has a real buzz, the Brooklyn Diner comes a very firm 2nd. This restaurant though being (or attempting to be) authentic loses its' edge when you are presented with the check. A bit disappointing."

  • "I always have a good experience at Brooklyn Diner, both 57th Street the and the Times Square location. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and efficient and they have the best Caesar Salad in New York."

  • "Used to walk by this place , see the word "diner" and think it was just a jumped up coffee shop. I was wrong. The food is great the staff is New York-y and full of energy, and the bar was lively and good. Just East of Times Square but the place was busy and the food was good. I would go back in a minute"
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "Good food, no wait, and our waiter was great as well fast and courteous. We ended up going to the location on 57th street. But it was a good time."

  • "Prices are high. There's no getting around that. But the service was quick and friendly. We had a reservation and were seated in a booth as soon as we arrived. The Reubun sandwich was huge and delicious. Definitely enough for two, unless you are starved. Same with the Chinese Chicken salad -- It was great and plenty for takehome. Friend who ordered a veggie burger also enjoyed it. And we all shared the kugel. I would go back!"

  • "I made a reservation on line for Super Bowl Saturday at the Brooklyn Diner. I had been given tickets in December for my birthday to see Beautiful. At the time my friends were unaware of Super Bowl week in NYC. Anyway I made these reservations but had an uneasy feeling about being seated because of all the people in the city. Well, we arrived a little bit early and not only were we seated immediately, we were treated incredibly. Everyone from the Maître Di, to the waitress, to the server were the nicest staff we ever encountered. And, the food was delicious! We were thrilled with our choice and will certainly return again. I have already recommended The Brooklyn Diner to my co-workers. The Pastrami is fabulous!!!"

  • "we were promptly seated. menu is limited compared to usual diner. food was over priced and portions were very samll. three of us ordered a soup course, but bread was only served for two of us. Salad for $13.50 hardly filled the dish it was served on. We had to ask for bread for the table, otherwise, we would have all gone hungry. $3.95 for a cup of american coffee. We had to ask for "whipped cream" for our cappuchino,We won't eat here again. Don't know if prices were jacked up for "Super Bowl" week."

  • "We came to Brooklyn Diner during super ball Saterday . The place was mobed which was a great Thing. The food was very tasty however was over priced . Double then any other place. We felt that the place was trying to push us Out. We ordered appetizers , soup and burger. All came at one time. We ask the waiter what is going on here? The food is getting cold. The answer was " we bring all the food out at one time " Did not appriciate this approach ."

  • "We were vert disappointed with the food. My turkey sandwhich was very dry and the french fries were cold and had to be sent back. My husband wanted a tuna melt and it came without the cheese and had to be sent back. It was empty and 5 oclock and they couldn't get it right. Price is high but it is New York and you expect that. Portions were not ample for the price. We are use to the big juicy sandwhichs of the Carnegie Deli and it was not anywhere near as good. We won't return. Ellen Silow"
