  • "The food was amazing and our bartender (arrived early and had a drink) and hostess were wonderful. When our whole party arrived, we sat for over 40 minutes with just water. No one talked to us other, even to refill our water. I figured it was just a busy brunch but when our server showed up, we ended up sitting another neglectful 25 minutes before she took our order. The service was very poor for the entire meal, not just when we first arrived and I'm sorely disappointed. They never picked up and seemed to busy to serve us. In this city, there are many other places to go before I return."

  • "A couple friends and I wanted to try a new restaurant & came across The Bristol. Since it was all of our first times there, the waitress was super helpful & explained everything very thoroughly to us. The menu is mostly seasonal with a few permanent items, and is a great restaurant for sharing dishes (as recommended by our waitress) and everything we had was incredible! The meats were all cooked to that melt in your mouth perfection. They had a really wide selection of cocktails/beer/wine that paired well with out meals. The decor is polished industrial & very well done. It did get a little loud when the place filled up as the upstairs is pretty small & the tables are close together, but all in all, it was a great experience!"

  • "The Bristol never disappoints. We have dined there many, many times, and we have never had a bad dish or bad time. Chef Chris Pandel's food is so delicious, our favorite staples on the menu are the Dutch olives, the raviolo, and half chicken. This past time we tried several new dishes on the dinner menu and they were all spectacular. I especially enjoyed the smoked carrot salad and celery root agnolotti. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable, and the service is always on point. The staff is friendly and accommodating, they work great together, and they always provide wine recommendations that pair perfectly with the dishes we order. I highly recommend The Bristol, it is definitely one of the best restaurants in Chicago."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for a nice dinner after a hard day of moving and had the most outstanding experience. We were just worn out, so we asked our server (Elliot) to choose our whole experience for us. Meals, drinks, dessert, everything. He was more than happy to execute and did not disappoint with any single part of the experience. The food was incredible. ALL OF IT. Neither of us drink, and the mocktails were incredible. The service was even more incredible. I cannot say enough great things about this place. My boyfriend and I were high by the time we finished our meal. We will definitely go back many times."

  • "Went there for our anniversary. The staff had a card on the table for us signed by all of them. Nice touch. It was a very busy Saturday night so it was very loud and the lighting was dim. Service was professional. We had a cheese board and charcuterie platter. Cheese selection could have been better. The main dishes, a pappardelle. 1/2 chicken, roast porgy, and celeriac ravioli were outstanding. For dessert we a basque cake. Definitely enough for two people and delicious. I just wish there was a little more sabayon that accompanied the cake. Overall a very good experience. We will go back."

  • "Everything was amazing! Their menu has seasonal plates along with mainstays. We had: beef tongue, prawns, smoked carrot/barley salad, cauliflower, pappardelle & pork porterhouse, cocktails & a bottle of Pinot. Jolene, our server, did an amazing job describing the dishes! The beef tongue was out there for me, but I'm so glad I tried it! Order everything at once so it can be coursed appropriately. The cauliflower w/ lemon & mint came out as a side with the pork & it really brought out the nutmeg in the pork! Somehow, we ordered dessert too! We had what is basically a homemade snickers bar (WOW!), & 2 scoops of nougat ice cream. French press coffee is a nice touch & they brought out a nice glass of rose."

  • "I read that The Bristol had received Diner's Choice awards and was on several lists of best restaurants, so my hopes were high. Unfortunately, It didn't meet expectations. The brussels sprouts appetizer were lovely & crisp, but extremely salty. The leek appetizer was good. I ordered the porgy. The flavor wasn't great and the portion extremely small. In fact, I don't like large portions but this was too small to warrant the price. My husband's pappardelle was fine, not great. We sat upstairs because I'd read it was quieter. It wasn't. I'd hoped for a nice conversation with my husband on his birthday but we ended up shouting across the too-wide table, which wasn't suited to conversation anyway. Too bad -- I wanted to like The Bristol."

From the greeting at the door, to the fantastic cocktails from the bar, great table service, great menu choices in all aspect of the meal, wonderful tastes and textures in charcuterie, appetizers, dinners and desserts- The Bristol is just first-rate throughout. Both the upstairs and street level dining rooms are attractive and comfortable. We have been for dinner service and brunch and wouldn't think of coming to Chicago without coming to the Bristol."

  • "Overall excellent dining experience. Out server, Brian, recommended fantastic dishes and the correct amount of food for four of us. The pacing of the meal was perfect. The sommelier recommended outstanding wines and was very accommodating to the different preferences of the table. The half chicken main was phenomenal, a must for your meal. Pastas were nicely prepared and the starters were also very good. Highly recommend a meal here."

  • "The atmosphere, service, drink, and food at the Bristol never disappoints. As an avid foodie with an appreciation for kindness and total dining experience, the Bristol brings it all. Perfect for couples, friends and groups, the Bristol staff does a nice job of pacing it's service and providing diners with at atmosphere for conversation and enjoyment. I'd highly recommend any of their dishes! The chicken is out of this world and the carrot salad is to die for. Desserts are a must and allow your server to pair a cocktail or glass of wine with your order, I'm never disappointed."

  • "We had high expectations, so maybe that was the issue. The ambiance in this restaurant is very nice and they were very friendly and accommodating when we arrived. We came on a Friday night and had a reservation. The food was honestly disappointing. We started with an apple salad which was fine and the cauliflower which had no flavor. For our mains we tried the pork loin, which tasted like ham, not bad but not impressive. And then the porgy fish which was fine as well. The $11 Moscow mules were small and again fine. In the end we spent well over $100 for the two of us and left feeling like there are so many more impressive places we can go to for the same price."

  • "It's always a good sign when you go to a restaurant that is totally blown up on a Saturday night because it promises a grand experience and The Bristol did not disappoint. Visiting from out of town can present challenges since you're not familiar with the different neighborhoods or even what a new city considers good food. The Bristol keeps things simple with the menu (if you're just looking at ingredients) but it's the preparation that is a bit more sophisticated, so don't hesitate to ask questions. Following the farm to table trend, The Bristol takes local ingredients and then whips up some really tasty dishes that you can only appreciate after putting it in your mouth."

  • "We arrived prompthly for our 6:45 reservation and were seated within 5 minutes. We ordered all of our food at once, as was suggested and the snacks, apps and pastas all came out together, as we were told it would, to be shared. Next time we stop in, we'll ask that the food be brought out a little differently, because by the time we got through all of it, it was starting to get cold. All of the food was excellent, including desserts. The room was bit noisy, so if you're there for dinner, be prepared to speak up a bit."

  • "The Bristol continues to be consistently good. I went with a party of 5 for a birthday celebration. The food was delicious and the cocktails were great. The pacing of the food was perfect. We arrived at 6:15 and sat upstairs and watched the sun set as we had cocktails. It was a lovely night. I will say that by the time we were leaving the place was incredibly loud and packed. We never felt rushed by the staff, for which I am grateful, but it does become difficult to talk when it gets that loud. So, my recommendation is to go early and have a great meal."

  • "My fiancé and I tried Bristol for the first time this past weekend and thought it was delicious! They had some very different food options that were fun to try. The monkey bread and duck fat fries were amazing!!! The ambiance was very cool...low lighting & an intimate setting. The only negative is that some of the portions were pretty small. Most of the items are meant to be shared but the beef sirloin entrée was quite small for the price. The dessert we had was unimpressive as well...good but very small and nothing too spectacular (we had the malt sundae), especially for $9. I had the chicken entrée and that was very, very good and plenty of food! Overall the food an ambiance were great but just be prepared to order multiple dishes!"

  • "It was my first time at The Bristol. I enjoyed the ambiance and the service and appreciate the innovative menu made mostly with local products. My husband and I went for brunch and ordered the pork chilaquiles and the burger. The food was good, although I found the chilaquiles to be too heavy and the burger was good but not special. However, we had a good experience and will probably go back again to try dinner."

  • "My husband and I had dinner late on a Friday and the place was packed. We had the duck fat fries which were delicious. Only problem was they were very filling so we had a problem getting through the rest. Everything was delicious but the most memorable dish was the roasted carrots which seemed most Mediterranean influenced. Waiter was great. It was also a beautiful restaurant ...dim and romantic and perfect for a date."

  • "My wife and I came from out of town. We'd heard many good things about The Bristol and we weren't disappointed. The drinks were hands down the best we've had in Chicago. Very well balanced, our server Elliot was a great guide, navigating our way and asking us about our preferences. The whole staff from dining room manager to busser made us feel genuinely welcome. The charcuterie plate was a real standout, especially the rillette.We also loved the prawns. We would strongly recommend giving it a try."

The food, as always, is well balanced, cleanly seasoned and fairly unpretentious. The usual food trends apply here, but they are always executed intelligently and with their own respective flair. Would go again in a heartbeat."
