  • Cross Street: 1st Street, 3 Blocks South of Roosevelt
  • Public Transit: Light Rail stop #11 at Roosevelt and Central Ave. Walking distance, just a few blocks North of The Breadfruit & Rum Bar.

  • Parking Details: Parking available on street at meters, which are free after 5:00 PM M-F and free all weekend.

    A large paid ASU parking lot is available behind the building. They accept cash and credit card payments. Very well lit and just steps away from the restaurant.

  • "I had a great time at The Breadfruit. Being a Caribbean girl from New York, it has been a challenge to find authentic food, just like home. The food was traditional with a twist. Presentation was incredible and the food was perfect. I had the mackerel rundown. I was wondering how the saltiness would go with the coconut milk but it wasn't salty at all; it was perfect. My boyfriend had the jerk pork, which was smoked to perfection. The sweet potato pudding tasted like it was made at home. Our server, Scott, I believe, was absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend this place!"

Service and food was good, enjoyed the fact that there was wine pairing with each course. Another table of diners did not have a great experience, a mis-communication issue with the wait staff, apparently, this was unfortunate but did not ruin our dining experience."

  • "We had a great time at The Breadfruit. We had a 7:30pm reservation and walked right in. The place was pretty empty when we got there but was packed by 8:30pm. They have an extensive rum drink menu which were good, some too sweet for my taste! I ordered the pork belly and it was insanely good!! I would definitely recommend it. The other guests at the table had the jerk chicken (which was good but not amazing) and the jerk pork shoulder (which was very good). Our waiter was very knowledgeable and checked on us at just the right times. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a change of pace. One warning, it can be a little pricey, especially if your party is drinking!"

  • "My wife and I hit this small downtown spot to try something different, and we weren't disappointed. It's a small spot, and very crowded, so reservations would make sense. Crowded is a good thing as it shows how great the food and atmosphere are. We tried two dishes and shared, along with a small plate to start, and loved all the dishes we tried. For the small plate we did the prawns, for the dishes we tried the mussels and the pork guava, all were delicious. Highly recommend!"

I had the jerk pork and polenta, and will probably order it again the next time I'm there. The rum bar is as special as they make it out to be. I'm not really a rum aficionado, but Breadfruit makes me want to be. My date and I both had the daily rum punch, which had vibrant fruit flavors, and a spicy accent at the end. I also had a Fifth & Company, which was also excellent. So, basically, find yourself a designated driver and go there."

The wait staff is well versed in the bar and food menus and are generally able to point anyone to items of their taste. The menus are constantly evolving, so don't get too attached to any one item, because it may not be on the menu when you return! This can be a bit frustrating, but it helps you try new things. I can honestly say that I have never gotten a drink or food item that I did not like. The RumBar is a fun place to hang out while waiting for a table. The bartenders are friendly and do enjoy conversing with patrons. Dwayne, one of the owners, is also personable and approachable as he runs the front of the house. A five-star favorite!"

So if you're acquainted with the flavors of the Caribbean, The Breadfruit is quite familiar to the palate. They successfully deliver the "essence" of the Caribbean though masterfully created, complex, and exciting, unique cocktails and food items. While The Breadfruit definitely has the best cocktails in Phoenix, the atmosphere there provides a bit of an escape from the desert's valley. The ambiance is classy and sophisticated, yet warm and friendly, and very different from anything else downtown. It delivers the relaxed "vibe" you'll recognize from the islands, and it's where I go in Phoenix, to escape Phoenix. It's party on the palate!!!"

Service was fast and allowed us time to soak up the memorable ambiance which was quaint but with hints of modern industrial throughout. The cocktail selection was awesome and the drinks were even better, with a rum selection unmatched by any place this world traveler has ever been! The food dishes recommended and selected were served at an appropriate temperature and the presentation was chic. The food was truly delicious, and with only one exception, merits a repeat performance. The only "almost complaint" was the serving sizes; too small for dinner; even small plates were too small. Outside lounge area: a MUST SEE!"

Wonderful cocktails, appetizers, entrées, and desert, everything was down right delicious! Great ambiance. Great service. Great everything! They have something for everyone. One of our team members tried a cigar and decided to take a few home. The side patio was a great place to finish our cocktails and to sit and converse. Food and cocktails were very good, (not much of a wine list but forget about that, go with the cocktails) and modestly priced for the quality. It helps that I love reggae and Ska music.   • "Best have reservations on a weekend. The cocktails were great though a bit slow in delivery for the 2nd order. Nice varietyof appetizers and reasonable listing of 2nd and main courses. Serving size definitely reasonable and not promoting obesity. I MUST compliemnt the flavors. Intense but not overwhelming. It was definitley not about the HOT but about the zing if you know what I mean? I had the red snapper and I would order it every night except my wife loved the mussels and I drooled at watching others eat their jerk chicken and keep licking their fingers... We wil lmake the ffort to drive downtown again. parking very convenient behind the restaurant in an ASU parkling lot (paid)."
