This was our second time at the
restaurant and the food and everything else worked out wonderfully. It is a very interesting menu and we will go back to try other things. I had red snapper which was the fish special and it ranks right up there with one of the best."

This is a favorite place for a
night out for my wife and I. Breadfruit has a laid back atmosphere with great food and great drinks."
Dined on 2/28/2014
Stumbled upon Breadfruit. What a
great spot. Funky rum bar and gourmet jamacian cuisine. Great ideas inspire both food and drink. Put this on list of must dos."
Dined on 3/6/2014
The menu includes many delectable
dishes using Island spices lightly, the appetizers have been carefully chosen and give the taste buds a hint of what to expect with the entre. The cocktail chosen by my companion, a rum mixture using juices from Island fruits was reportedly a tantalizing flavorful choice, my own choice, a non-alcoholic carrot juice that made use of coconut was very taste. The waiter was very attentive, well versed in the menu, observant of our every need."
Dined on 3/5/2014
Food was so so. Adding jerk sauce
does not mean its Jamaican."
Dined on 3/5/2014
We appreciate the great service,
trained staff, ambience and interesting, fresh food. They are unique, yet bring in local ingredients and finds, which makes the meal even better. We support local restaurants and vendors and this beats any chain restaurant experience by miles! Don't be in a hurry here...enjoy some rum punch, appetizers and wait patiently for your meal. Enjoy yourselves and enjoy the great food."

Great, hidden gem. Wonderful food
that is highly original with lots of bold flavors. Service was excellent - perfectly, professionally casual."
Dined on 2/22/2014
Saved the best for last... First
off let me say this was a wonderful dining experience. The food was amazing and the chefs creativity with Jamaican cuisine should be celebrated. Sat outside on the boardwalk which was nice and had a few cocktails pre dinner. We had: white fish rolls, jerk scallops, red stripe curry prawns, escovitch red snapper. Delish ! They fly their blue mountain coffee in regularly. Memories of home I wish we had this back in Toronto. Thank you Dwayne."
Dined on 2/27/2014
This place was a Gem! The food was
outstanding and the service was even better. You had so many selections of top of the line rums as well. The cigar lounge in the back was fantastic as well, they have their own fumador!"
Dined on 2/24/2014
The smoked mussels and jerk
chicken were exquisite. The Breadfruit's collection of Rums is second to none in Phoenix. Great place for a rum aficionado."
Dined on 2/21/2014
Great last minute late dinner food
was great just a bit pricey tho"
Dined on 2/19/2014
The food was overpriced and less
than average. Beautiful menu that doesn't deliver. Very disappointing."
Dined on 2/19/2014
Our overall experience was
exceptional. Food, service, and experience was definitely memorable. We will be recommending this place to our friends and family. Thank you!"
Dined on 2/17/2014
I have been a customer of the
breadfruit for a fairly long time. I am now a former customer. This week was simply the last time that myself not my family will be treated poorly and have to deal with the poor attitude of the owner. While the opentable process was excellent, it was in fact a waste of time. My guests were made to wait for most an hour past the reservation time. Very disappointed. I have recommended this restaurant to any over the years and will cease to do so anymore."
Dined on 2/17/2014
A little off the beaten path (I
was staying at the Palomar and in town for a convention at the Phoenix Convention Center) and we went here for dinner. The food was good - definitely Caribbean and not really other options other than Carribean. Limited menu, but it's great if you are a Caribbean food fan! They do not deviate from the menu, so no substitutions of any kind. Also, the non-alcoholic drinks are oddly limited. Check the menu before you head over and don't expect to order anything "your way." Again - it's fine if you like what you see and it's good quality."

This was a wonderful find in
downtown Phoenix. Food was great; very congenial atmosphere, too."
Dined on 2/15/2014
Great food, unique, not much like
it in AZ. Friendly and accommodating staff. Nice neighborhood vibe."
Dined on 2/15/2014
I had a reservation at 5:45pm as I
had show tickets at 7:30pm at Comerica theater. We were asked to wait for 20 minutes after checking in so we gave up and went to the bar. I will go back when I don't have an event scheduled because the food was so good! Had the Jerk Pork and polenta and the best Mojito of my life!"
Dined on 2/13/2014
Was looking for something new and
this place delivered"
Dined on 2/14/2014
The Breadfruit is a bit hard to
find, and since it is downtown, you will probably have to pay to park in the lot to the north of the restaurant. We were seated promptly (we had a reservation) and our server was friendly and capable. We enjoyed our rum drinks, but our appetizer was lacking in flavor. My daughter and her boyfriend enjoyed the seafood they ordered (salmon and shrimp), but I was quite disappointed in my jerk pork. It was lacking in flavor, and the everything on the plate was the same color. Perhaps I should have ordered the goat instead."
Dined on 2/13/2014
We have eaten at Breadfruit 3
times and it is one of our Phoenix favorites. You can't go wrong starting with the rum punch at the door, but you have to try their specialty cocktails with all the homemade infusions; to die for. The Streetside Chicken is smoked perfectly, the Goat Curry is tender and delicious - the best goat around grown just for them. The seafood is great. You have to be flexible because they sometimes run out of entrees - the cooking is totally fresh. For dessert the Sweet Potato Pie is so unique and totally delicious. I can't say enough good things about Breadfruit. Be sure to have a reservation because they are SO busy."
Dined on 2/8/2014
Loved another opportunity to eat
here. This place is warm and inviting and hip. The rum selection is pretty spectacular and even if you arent a rum afficianado, you wish you were when you gaze at the selection. You can trust the bartender to steer you in the right direction. Food is delish. Local and regionally sourced, authentic, good selection but not overwhelming. Just try to ignore the waiter who talks too much. Chances are, however annoying, he still cant kill the vibe. Seriously good snapper. Curry island style."

Dwayne met us at the door and got
us settled at the bar. Kristin was our bartender for the evening. We placed ourselves in her capable hands and she paired drinks with our food all night long. We started a scallop appetizer (perfectly prepared) and I had the Tradewinds Swizzle & my wife had the Hemingway Daiquiri (which turned out to be her favorite drink of the night). After some time at the bar we moved to the dining room for a fantastic supper. I started with soup of the day then on to the jerk chicken. Fantastic. Kristen was true to her word and provided some really tasty drinks to go along with our equally tasty meal. We'll definitely return for more of their delicious fare."

Breadfuit is a restaurant
experience you don't want to miss. Carribean and authentic. The food was delicious. Try the lobster and curry."

From the moment we arrived, our
party of 4 was treated to a dining experience that turned out to be magical. The maitre d' was delightful, from explaining the restaurant's concept and rum-drink choices for first-timers, to checking in on us throughout dinner and even explaining what makes the Guinness Foreign Stout so special and offering suggestions for drink pairings. We ordered small plates of Appleton Rum Sea Scallops and Plantain Avocado Spring Rolls. For our meal, three of us ordered the Jerk Pork with Polenta, which was spicy without being overwhelming, and the fourth ordered the Slow Braised Beef Stew. She shared samples of it with the rest of us and it was quite good. We shared a dessert. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable."
Dined on 1/24/2014
This is the best Rum bar and
Caribbean restaurant I have ever been to; and I've been to a few. Can't wait to go back."
Dined on 1/18/2014
In Breadfruit's attempt at
Caribbean Fusion, too much Fusion waters down the Caribbean to the point that some of the dishes are no longer authentic."
Dined on 1/17/2014
It is a quaint little restaurant
with a good feel. The service was very good and the rum drinks were delicious. We had the scallops for an appetizer and they were delicious with a wonderful spicy taste. I had the Red Stripe Curried Prawns. It was very good. It says it has curry, but I couldn't really taste any curry. It was a good size helping. My husband had the Escovitch Fish & Festival, which was very fishy and had a lot of bones. I would not recommend this dish at all. I took one bite of it and it was bad. We tried a few of the rum drinks and they all were very good. We would like to come back again and try a few other dishes, like the mussels. All and all, it was good and I would come back and I would recommend someone to try it out."

Breadfruit is our "go-to place"
when we attend an event in downtown Phoenix. The food and drinks, featuring Jamaican cuisine, are made fresh from locally grown ingredients, and never disappoint. The service is friendly and efficient. On this visit, we brought friends who had never been to Breadfruit. They loved it. The menu can be viewed online, and you can reserve a table inside or on the small outdoor patio."
Dined on 1/10/2014
The restaurant has big rim
selection and few other drinks. special I got was just ok and overpriced. But the place was so noisy I could not hear my partner across the table and the waitress had to yell into my ear. That is because most of the small restaurant was filled with a loud group of 20. We were seated at a perimeter table, the only non group in the room, although we noticed a few other empty tabes for two. When we left we notic people seated at the bar in a separate room for dinner. Sham on them for seating us in that room (when we arrived the big group had yet to arrive otherwise we never would have sat down. My ears rang for hours after we left. Will never go back."
Dined on 1/9/2014
Not big on writing reviews but
don't waste your time and money on this place. Expensive for food that should cost a quarter of the price. Had to return my meal for the first time possibly ever because it was not edible and we paid 150$ for two with drinks for one. Just don't do it."
Dined on 12/31/2013
Very great jamaican restaurant
just missing the jamaican touch."
Dined on 1/3/2014
Have note this review is for New
Year's Eve, fixed price menu: goats head soup, spicy quail, oysters and house truffles were all tasty and unique. Cocktails recommended for each course, and both desserts being alcohol based meant non- drinkers got short changed. Wait staff person had to ask 3 times what selection one of our party of 4 had made, portions were small for the price, tables small and crowded together, and courses were slow in coming. Still sound track was good, and if you like to drink, and time and price are not issues, this would be an enjoyable place to go."
Dined on 12/31/2013
What a place! Had scallops and
mussels and was blown away. Everything was perfect. Will be back for another special night soon."
Dined on 12/21/2013
This is what I call food
entertainment. After all, you have got to eat!"
Dined on 11/29/2013
Very diverse menu. Number of items
I wanted to try. The Jamaican pork and polenta was absolutely fabulous. Sat outside and had a great time. Would definitely return. All 4 members of my party had the Hemingway Daiquiri and we aloved it."
Dined on 11/15/2013
The Caribbean cuisine is
innovative, beautifully presented, and on a par with the best of New York or San Francisco. The Rum Bar is the real treasure, though - the staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and the cocktails showcase their wide array of rums and hand-made ingredients to extraordinary effect."
Dined on 11/12/2013
This was not our first visit,
however once again we had a memorable evening of dinning. We look forward to our next visit."
Dined on 11/8/2013
We went here on a Saturday night.
The food was tasty, however, their drinks are in the $10 range so you can easily spend a lot of money drinking."
Dined on 11/7/2013
The Breadfruit is not the best
Carribean food you'll ever have, but it's a solid meal in a great location with a cool concept. Indeed, the Rum Bar part of the resto is really the best part. I normally hate rum, but the cocktails are innovative and fantastic. The service here is superb, btw. 4-star experience at 2-star prices."
