Boiler House Texas Grill & Wine Garden is a true Texas original. Situated in the historic Pearl Brewery complex on the San Antonio River Walk, this wine-centric restaurant occupies the former “boiler house” which powered the adjacent brewery. The menu focuses on grilled items from local farms and markets, with a focus on “Texas ranch-style” cuisine. These delicacies are paired with extraordinary wines from around the world (all available by the glass, bottle and “to-go”), live music and a casual yet energetic atmosphere. The unique list of wines features pricing based on a “retail” model, and boasts some of the lowest prices in the area.

The restaurant incorporates various private dining areas suitable for private or corporate functions and an expansive outdoor patio area where guests can enjoy dining alfresco. Catering is also available at the restaurant or at a location of your choice.

  • "This is the second year in a row my nursing friends and I have met for lunch for Restaurant Week here. The food is so good. Each of us ordered different entrées and were pleased with it. My friend had the truffled cous cous carbonara and I had the meatloaf sando gluten free. We loved it. For dessert I even got a flour less chocolate brownie with candied pecan over house made cajeta! Yum! Plus the wine pairings were a great accompaniment."

  • "The food was great and very tasty. Presentation was good. However there was a large party sitting right next to us and it was so noisy thay we could not talk without having to raise our voices. The service was just ok. Waiter needed to know the menu and be able to explain the items. When we asked a question he just read the menu to us. I thought the menu was confusing and did not understand some of the items and when the waiter could not explain them, I just had to decide not to try. Worth a second visit for a special occasion or a fun spot to take someone visiting from out of town."

  • "My wife ordered prime rib. It was so bad, she refused to eat it and gave it to me. Chewy was an understatement. The table next to us ordered the same and sent it back. It was like chicken fried steak covered in gravy, except not as good. My wife ate the pork shank and beans. Their version of pork and beans. It should have been called pork finger, because that is about the amount of pork, you received. Friend got the salmon, she said it was good, but not a great size portion. Pork Belly for an app was good but two were ordered and only one appeared to have pork attached to the fried belly. No liquor menu, only beer and wine. Quite an extensive list. Price was grossly disproportionate to size of food. WILL NOT RETURN!"

  • "Went on the recommendation of a family member who raved about it. The service was interesting. Had a gentleman that came every 2 seconds it seemed to the table and it turned out he was waiting for the waitress. Her service was horrible. Waited over 15 mins between appetizer completion and entree. They were not even busy. The meal? Unfortunately the prime rib was stringy and the knife to cut it was dull. I left half on the plate and she came and said as she took our groups plates, oh, I see you didn't like it and left. For the price it is not even close to the standards it should be."

  • "I love heat but not on everything, and it has to be enjoyable. Even the green beans were spicy. Presentation was poor. The highlight of my lunch was the appetizer bacon popcorn that they neglected to bring to our table until desert. Fun place to eat, but will not be going back. To be fair, I ordered off the restaurant week menu, but If they are not going to use it to showcase their food, they should not participate."

  • "I selected The Boiler House to entertain a couple of my most important clients who were visiting San Antonio. The appetizers and tastes were bright and fresh, I'm a big fan of the salmon ceviche. The entree selection is very limited, especially if you don't eat red meat. I found the overall experience confusing - the food and wine are high end, the prices even higher... However the atmosphere is more like a bar than a quality dining experience. I entertain clients on a regular basis but do not plan to visit The Boiler House anytime soon."

  • "We chose this place for a special occasion-anniversary dinner. Poor choice. Although the food and service were very good, the atmosphere left much to be desired. When I made the reservation, I noted it was a special occasion and requested a nice table-we were seated next to the restroom door. That said, if you're just interested in food and drink, this would be a great choice. Menu choices are somewhat limited, but creative, and the appetizer and entrees were delicious. The recommended dessert- not so much."

  • "My husband & I wanted a date night and we were hungry for steak and good wine. When we arrived we were a little disappointed to see how expensive the steak was for just the steak. We would have added sides. However, we just ordered some of the appetizers (which were large enough for us to split and were so satisfied! We can't wait to go back to have the Bison meatballs, the Bubbling Swiss Cheese dip, the Boiler House salad and the Brusselsprouts!!!! A true winner in our book!!!!!! Not dissapointed at all that we didn't get our steak. However, if you want steak -- I would guess it is one of the best!"

  • "I have been to The Boiler House (TBH) a dozen times for dinner and every time has been exceptional. Had lunch for the first time at TBH recently, and was not impressed with the entrées. The entrées seemed like they were trying to hard to taste good, and instead lacked in the right flavor and edibleness. I noticed my guests using forks and knives for a sandwich and a burger. This should never be the case, it takes away from the purpose of two (2) pieces of bread separating your hands from the core ingredients."

  • "Loved the menu and easy to share plates. Saw the ravioli on-line so was disappointed to hear they are now off the menu. The breads are good, but maybe a little too much cheese (can you have too much cheese?). Service was slow, but the company was good so we were ok with that. Beer choices were fun. Would have loved a flight to try a few more. Desserts were so-so. We tried 3 and none had any wow factor. Bison meatballs rocked!"

  • "The restaurant was upstairs from the bar and open to below which led to a moderate noise level, although for 8pm on a Saturday not to bad. It is not a large seating area but quite comfortable. The double-cut pork chop that I had was the best and cooked just perfect. My wife had the tenderloin skewers which were charred just right. The appetizer, Bubbling Swiss, Roasted Elephant Garlic, Sweet Onion, was hot and gooey with toast! The shared vegetable dish, Zucchini-Quinoa-Golden Raisins, was good and multi-faceted, although could have been a larger portion. The tab with a beer and tip came to ~ $88."

Some things were delicious...the filet was cooked perfectly, the 2 specials we had were good...chicken fried steak & the salmon sashimi. great wine list and excellent service. the 2 different breads we had were good, best was the bubbling swiss. loved the charred bread. our dessert was delicious, caramel cheesecake. what we didn't like were the skewers...we had the tenderloin, shrimp with bacon, & the quail. the meats tasted like they had been marinated in liquid smoke. the taste was overpowering. i didn't remember that flavor the first time we ate there. i had wanted to try the venison loin but was full after appetizers. will try that next time. in summary, everything was good except the skewers."

  • "Really glad I gave this restaurant a second chance. When they first opened, the food was a D at best. Extremely salty - so much so that it diminished the flavor of every other ingredient. Now, Chef Jeff White has transformed the menu into a delicious array of comfort foods (great BLTs and potato salad) and unusual pairings (lemon and ricotta ravioli!). My only concern was the service, which was somewhat slow. Lunch took almost 90 minutes, and it was not due to the crowd. Going back as soon as possible to check out dinner."

  • "I've been to the Boiler House many times...the food is always excellent, but this time they went above and beyond in service. I ordered the filet medium, but it came medium well. I never return food and I seldom complain so I just ate. However I did tell friends that I was with (we had 3 couples in our party) that it was overlooked and our server overheard me. He went to tell the manager who came right out and apologized for it. I told her not to worry about it but she comped the steak anyways and gave the table free desserts. That type of service seldom happens...I've seen jerks make a huge fuss so the restaurant HAS to give them something, but I've never seen the restaurant manager make the first move like that. Kudos on the service"

  • "I made reservations for Saturday 5-10-14. It was my mom's birthday and we wanted to celebrate that and Mother's Day, as I also stated in my reservation's notes. My family and I got there around between 2:15 and 2:30pm, the hostess informed us that she had a table but was waiting for it to be cleaned off. After waiting, we got to our table and it was not clean at all. The hostess had to finish cleaning it with us sitting there. Our waitress didn't ask if it was our first time there (which it was) so the menu was unclear and difficult to know which was an actual meal versus a snack. It's overpriced, quality of food was not good, my mom got no kind of celebratory desert or gesture. I was very disappointed. There were flies everywhere. "

  • "The food was ok and the waitress was brusque right up until she brought the check...I guess she didn't want to miss her opportunity to improve on the tip. Don't believe the hype and the write up on their website about "near retail pricing" on their wine. We paid $44 for a $22 bottle of Wire Ridge Cabernet. Most everything else on the list was just as bad."
