  • "Best Fish & Chips in Long Beach! Best location on the bay! Great service!"

  • "Spent a very relaxing lunch just sitting outside, enjoying the nice breeze and watching the boats pass by on the newly expanded deck area. The sushi here is consistently great...fresh and flavorful."

  • "The Boathouse on the Bay has a new larger outdoor patio....great food and wonderful Southern California view!"

  • "It was just a mediocre experience. The service was slow and the food so so.Calamari was overcooked, but the brussell sprouts were delicious. Took a long time for a server to come to greet us, and bring us menus. Then after delivery of drinks, he asked if we wanted a glass for our beers. We said yes, and then didn't see him for quite a while. By the time he came back, we had already finished half our beers. Other restaurant choices available so would choose those first before going back."

  • "One of the best water view restaurants in Long Beach. Great service, friendly vibe, but the food is just average. It's not BAD, but it IS pricey and I want it to be so much better because I love the setting so much! In the middle of summer, my fish entree had sage and butternut squash! They could definitely "seasonalize" the menu a bit better."

  • "Lobster fettuccine was just OK, but the recommended Chilean Sea Bass was THE very best EVER... melt in your mouth, buttery, very light glaze -- just delicious. Pomegranate champagne cocktail was surprisingly robust, didn't even need wine with dinner. Anniversary dessert was complimentary. Spectacular sunset on the water an added bonus. All-in-all a lovely evening."

  • "Wait staff did a great job with our happy and somewhat boistrous group. Very good food and a sunset view table made it a happy evening."

  • "Spectacular views of Alamitos Bay Marina! I've been several times last month and this month and every service experience has been stellar. Food is quite tasty too. I would, however, like to see a little more variety in their salads as well as some vegetarian offerings. Grrreat place! We will return."

  • "Great place to enjoy a meal, but the bill added up quickly. Party of 2 with 2 average glasses of wine and dinner (without soup or salad to start) was $111 before tip. $12 for a serving of asparagus is high (just enough for 1 person). You definitely pay for the waterfront location. Server was attentive and though fairly new, was able to explain history of the restaurant, which recently wen brought a change."

  • "We visited The Boathouse on July 4th, to celebrate my son's birthday as well as catch the fireworks out the window in the harbor. We were seated by a window, without having to request it. The service was outstanding and the food was phenomenal. Starting with the freshly baked, warm sourdough bread (it was even better than I've had in San Francisco). I ordered the Sesame Crusted Ahi, and it was fabulous. My son had the Halibut and that was even better. My daughters ordered scallops, which I don't eat, but they loved them. My husband ordered the Rosemary Chicken, and it too was fantastic. Unfortunately, my choice for dessert was the Flourless Chocolate Cake. It was not nearly as dense as I would have liked, but my kids devoured it."

  • "We love coming here and great that they have now expanded the patio area to provide almost 2x more seating outdoors. The menu has remained the same even with the new owners. The only complaint is that service is very spotty. There also appears to be a great deal of turnover with staff. I think their hiring criteria is if you are blonde, you get the job regardless of experience."

  • "Had a business dinner at The Boathouse. It was excellent. The food was great, particularly liked the Hawaiian Ahi Poke appetizer (big enough for a meal). The wine list was great and half-off because it was Wines-day Wednesday. Service was excellent. Attentive and not intrusive. There was a great crowd out on the patio overlooking the bay and the sailboats returning from the Wet Wednesday races. Live music out there permeated but didn't overpower the dining room. I'll definitely be back, and probably on the patio next time!"

  • "We four women get together for lunch every year or so to reconnect. This place was perfect! We all ordered the fish tacos, and the were very good. I had the impression whatever I ordered would be tasty...I'm sorry we weren't more diversified in our selections! The service was very good- one of our group eats gluten-free, and our server was so helpful in checking with the chef about various dishes. When we asked if the music volume could be lowered, they said yes, and took care if it right away! Very friendly, very clean. Spacious tables. Lovely views."

  • "We were there for Sunday evening dinner. All was incredible but the noise level is quite loud. I can imagine that during busier times it is extremely loud."

  • "The Boathouse is awesome,as always we had a great time. I recommend it highly :-)"

  • "Appetizers of smoked fish w/cheese & toast and the brussels sprouts (too many for a serving) were quite good. Halibut & sea bass were perfectly cooked. The restaurant really falls down in the service department. Not that they weren't nice people but they were a bit clueless how to serve fine dining, which is what the prices suggest this experience should be. The location is lovely (on the water with views of the channel) but has been several other restaurants that didn't make it. Not too much has been changed under current ownership, except striving for a fine dining experience. Work harder, guys."

  • "7pm reservation, restaurant completely overbooked, receptionists overwhelmed and so not helpful. After speaking with the manager, and being forced to throw a fit, finally got seated at 8pm. Everything was great from that point on…food, service etc. Too bad we had to throw a fit in order to get seated for our very special event…."

  • "While the food is outstanding, it was near impossible to enjoy it with a company of six because conversation is near impossible due to the noise level. There's a bit of a "tri"chotomy at Boathouse between high prices, fine dining and bar atmosphere. For such prices and cuisine, I expected to be able to hear the people I sat with. I regret having spent over $400 for this meal because the noise level cancelled out the enjoyment of it. I would only return if I were heading to the bar for the "energy". Fine dining menu in a bar environment results in disappointment."

  • "food and service was great but the party direcvtly behind us was incredibly rude and noisy and swearing so much that it was difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. The owner came by several times and spoke to them but it didnts do much good."

  • "We enjoyed our meal. The service was outstanding. The bread loaf was to die for. Only criticism....for the price the sea bass was a very small portion."

  • "We celebrated a friends birthday and pleasantly surprised by this dining experience. Waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. Dinner was very tasty and elegantly displayed. Every dish that was served was a sight! This place would be great for a romantic evening or a celebration with friends. "

  • "We had a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, and seafood dishes and all were very good. Service was attentive and helpful. A bit pricey but not really out of line for good food and being right on the water."

  • "This was my first time dining off the Long Beach Marina and certainly one of the more pleasant dining experiences. The view was outstanding; the food was delicious, and the service was top of the line. Our wait-staff was extremely attentive but down-to-earth-friendly! Tom had a great sense of humor, made us feel comfortable, and also made some great recommendations. We had the Chilean Sea Bass as well as the Halibut, which were both cooked perfectly. "

  • "I took important business customers to this new restaurant that replaced McKennas, and I was concerned, but it was fabulous. In particular, the help seemed to be re-ingenerized, and the food was as great. I got a call on my cell to confirm my reservation, and I updated the time with no problem, and they gave me a great table outdoors like I asked. Nothing else has changed."

  • "Great to see Elliot the new GM! Perfect table for 6 by the window for our dearest friend's intimate Retirement party! The sea bass and halibut was fresh, moist, and seasoned to perfection! Our third trip back to this Alamitos Bay gem via our Duffy...we will be back! "

  • "We celebrated my son's graduation at a wonderful table looking out over the bay. It was just what I requested in the reservation. The food was great and it was a perfect way to celebrate with our family and enjoy the beautiful view."

  • "Our visit was limited to the bar for a happy hour. We found the Happy Hour menu quite expansive and enjoyed our selection. Service was attentive without being cloying, I appreciate that subtle difference. Stayed though the first set of the band which also was good. The best comment I can offer is that we plan on going back very soon, when it is a bit warmer to enjoy the patio."

  • "We had a lovely time. The table they gave us was a booth that was a tight fit for six adults. Better suited for four. I had to ask for an ice bucket for the bottle of champagne we brought. The food and view were excellent."

  • "Since changing hands, this site looks the same, but has improved, especially in terms of the freshness of the seafood. As Boathouse on the Bay, they've also added some great touches, including freshly grated horseradish served with the shrimp cocktail. Overall, we enjoyed it, but it was just my wife and me on this evening, and we had wanted to talk. Figured on a Monday at 6:30 it would be relatively quiet. As they used to say in the 90s, "NOT." The place was half-full at that hour, but the guitarist-singer's amp was set to a level meant, I can only guess, to entertain the people across the bay. At 9 o'clock you expect a place to rock, but I wonder how many people seek out loud noises at 6:30."

  • "I loved our brunch at the Boathouse on the Bay. The food was fabulous and the view was amazing. The only problem I encountered is that I wasn't told our party of 8 wouldn't be able to order off the menu. The cost of breakfast was $500. Had I been informed, we made have decided on another restaurant. The patio was very crowded, so it was hard to move around and to communicate with others in my party at the end of our long table."

  • "My girlfriend and I had dinner at The Boathouse on a Tuesday night to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant wasn't too crowded so we chose our own table, which was by the window. The view of the bay was great, just after the sun had set. The ambience was fun, with live music, and the food was delicious. Overall this was a great place to celebrate a birthday."

  • "We met friends for dinner and requested a booth with a view and were seated at the window with a beautiful view of the bay. We ordered some sushi as appetizers and it was delicious. Several of us also ordered the Chilean Sea Bass which was cooked to perfection! Our waiter was great, had a terrific sense of humor and put up with our shenanigans! We were there for several hours so were entertained with the live band that stated playing later! They were so good! A great time at a great restuarant! I don't often write reviews but this was worth mentioning."

  • "In addition to the wonderful Bay view, the restaurant has a nice feel and the food is very good. My Ahi was perfect and melt in the mouth. On Wednesdays, bottles of wine are half off. A great place to watch the beer can races on Wednesday's during the summer on their patio with Happy Hour."
