Diner Reviews
  • "We arrived at the end of the morning brunch service. As a result the place was nearly empty, which was nice. However, the Eggs Benedict had dried out a bit in the warming pan. We did have a full selection of everything. The beef tenderloin melted in the mouth and the bread pudding with white chocolate and blueberries was SO GOOD. Our waitress took very good care of us. I definitely would go again and take friends. "

  • "We had a great time at the Sunday Park location of the Boathouse for Easter Brunch. The food and the service were great. It was relaxing and the view of the water made a nice day even better. The Eggs Benedict were my absolute favorite. If you are looking for a nice way to begin your Sunday with great food, this is your spot. "

  • "Jannel was our server and was just terrific. Most of the Easter buffet was super---the Yukon mashed potatoes were hard and stale. So was the shrimp and grits but the tenderloin and the jumbo shrimp made up for it. "

  • "The restaurant is located on the water - a very pretty view if you can sit outside. the ambience is very nice inside, too. We live in the area and have been to the Boathouse at Sunday Park many times. The food is usually pretty good; the service has not always been the best, but it was very very good the last time we were there. The food was excellent and so was the service."

  • "We've been patrons of the Boathouse at Sunday Park for several years now. When we went for the first time several years ago and at the time, the food, the menu, the service, and the ambiance made this place a real favorite! Brunch was always especially good. Unfortunately, something changed in a big way. Over the past year or so, our experiences have been less than positive -- mainly due to the food. There have been several menu changes but I feel like the quality of the food has steadily declined. At our last visit, three out of four at our table were served home fries that were over-seasoned and stone cold too. Frankly, the water-side venue and Living Socual are what bring us back but I expect better. I truly hope things improve!"

  • "While the place was very busy-first Friday with warm weather so the outside tables and bar were very busy, we were seated quickly. Nice selection of food, the waiter was very attentive. Overall a nice place for dinner."

  • ""I love the relaxed feel of this place -as close to being on a cruise as possible.. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.""

  • "Reservations went well; seated immediately on a busy Friday. Weather was perfect for outdoors on the water. Oysters are a little pricey compared to other places but they were good."

  • "The setting can't be beat! The service was pretty slow and the entrees were slow in arriving and not very hot. Prices are a bit on the high side but you're paying for the view as much as the food, which is just OK."

  • "My experience at the boathouse was beyond my expectations. Never imagine such a wonderful restaurant tucked away. Dined with a couple celebrating their anniversay. Was really nervous after all i suggested the place for dinner, had no idea what to expect to my suprise it was fantastic. More importantly the couple was blown away In fact they bragged so much to their family we have reservations for 10 people on 5/11 the number will possibly grow. Hav friends coming from barbados the boathouse will be the choice for dinning. Ive also placed it on the top of my vendor list. I m a wedding planner but new to this area dont know all the hot spots but the boat house is tops on my list. did i forget to say the food/ drinks fantastic."

  • "The service was attentive and the view inside and out is great. Something about it was a little off though--the food didn't live up to the way the restaurant bills itself (locavore dining) and they were out of the sommalier's featured wine. For some reason they brought my tiny four year old an entire large pepperoni pizza rather than a child's portion. The food was good but not great. There is a good grilled seafood option for anyone with food allergies (just s&p, lemon, and olive oil). All in all you might come here for lunch or drinks but it's a little pricey for dinner, especially with so many other options in Richmond that really do locavore fine dining."

  • "The boathouse at Sunday Park has great food and is a nice place to dine. They were extremely busy on this Friday night as it was their unofficial summer opening. We had a wonderful table outside without having to ask. The view was magnificent. Considering how many people were there we got our food reasonably fast but we were glad we opted for appetizers because it took about an hour for the entrees to arrive. The calamari was the best we have ever had. The salmon was excellent and they served it over a bed of spinach for me instead of rice. Very memorable for a special meal with the family . Be prepared to relax and enjoy the view if you go on a weekend night."

  • "We added an 5th diner to our group which was not received well by the hostess since we were booked at a booth and the booths are raised making it nearly impossible to place a chair at the open end of the table. We finally asked our server for a bar stool and he was helpful and accommodating. The food was good and the setting is beautiful but the staff seemed overwhelmed. Our entrees took forever and our check was cleared out before our dessert arrived."

  • "While it is very nice to have a special wine tasting event on Wednesday nights and dine outdoors overlooking the reseviour, sometimes I wonder if it's worth it to put up with all the rules and attitude from the management here. It's nearly impossible to get to speak to a person to make a reservation here, so all you can do if you have a special request is to write in in a box online. Wouldn't you think if the request couldn't be accomidated that you would receive a call about the problem? I did. The food at the Boathouse is hit or miss. While it's fun to eat a lobster outdoors, I don't think I have ever seen a lobster as small as I was served here. It tasted great, but it was a disappointment. Service at the bar is horrible!"

  • "Had a quiet early Sunday family brunch. The service was excellent and the food was very good. This is one of our go-to places for brunch with out of town guests. It has a great view and nice menu selection."

  • "This was our first time eating at the Boathouse at Sunday Park and it was a fantastic experience. The food was delicious, the ambiance is perfect, the wait staff was phenomenal, and the dress attire is anywhere from casual to shirt and tie. All excellent qualities."

  • "This was a combined birthday, out of town family event. Reservation was honored on time, no wait. There were a few large parties (another couple of family gatherings and a wedding party), but our server gave us all his attention, assisted by other wait staff as needed. Food was delivered promptly and hot. Presentation was great and the food delicious. Price, though slightly higher than surrounding restaurants, was well within our tolerance range. This was a very early spring outing. The outside fire-pit would have been a welcome addition if any waiting had been required. I look forward to going back in the late spring and early summer when outside dining is available."

  • "From beginning to end, we had a great dining experience. We were warmly welcomed and our table was ready when we arrived. The server was very good without hovering. We ordered brunch offerings, Eggs Diablo, omelet, Crab Cake Benedict, and everyone enjoyed their meals immensely. None of us intended to finish the generous portions offered and yet we all did because our meals were delicious and well prepared. Two of our guests had Peach Bellinis to drink and they enjoyed them so much they haven't stopped talking about them."

  • "We have been to Sunday Park many times. I have written several reviews here, and all of them very positive with the caveat that they are too expensive. This visit, however, fell more short of 'outstanding' than the rest. I hope this is not the beginning of a trend for them. Friday afternoon dinner. Apparently they were running a bar special with shrimp because the bar was packed but tables were open. The waitress mentioned it to us. Ordered a fried seafood platter that comes with fries. 3 oysters, 3 shrimp, 1 piece of catfish. Everything was completely flavorless. 2 dinners, 1 salad, 2 glasses of wine = $77 + tip. It was a beautiful afternoon overlooking the reservoir. I would have done better with a picnic."

  • "Our server was very nice and knowledgable about the menu but not helpful enough. I was looking for lobster stuffed with crab. She informed me that was not an option on the menu. She pointed to the whole lobster. She states that was the same and it came with a crab cake. So that's what I ordered. An entire lobster still in its shell Cooked arrived at the table. I couldn't break open the shell of that lobster to eat it. I had nausea at the thought. I wish out server would have been more engaged. Maybe I would have had a dinner I could have eaten that night"

  • "I have been going to The Boat House since 1989. Generally I have not been pleased with the food. Two summers ago I brought guests to the outside dinning area. They were delighted with the view. The rock fish was an embarrassment. It was SO small it appeared to be a joke! Other times the food just wasn't up to par. However, the Brunch last Sunday was excellent! If the food was consistently good, we would be there much more often."

  • "Great food and good service. They were running 50% off on all food items because of bad weather that day. The waitstaff seemed to be over extended and not up to their normal excellence. We were very understanding because we could see that the place was packed for a Monday night. Also we used open table to make our reservation and they had no record of our reservation at the restaurant. Luckily we arrived before it got very busy and we were seated quickly. Great place to eat! Would highly recommend to others."

  • "My husband and I were looking for an alternative to the local bar scene to celebrate St Patrick's Day. We were not disappointed, The Boathouse managed to throw a great casual St Patrick's Day party, but kept it tasteful while entertaining. The service was prompt, the food was great, and the ambiance was wonderful. Side note: I am excited that the restaurant has plans to bring my favorite menu item back... Oyster Rockefeller. We will be going back!"

  • "Food and service were great. Music was way too loud. Took my Mother for Sunday Brunch and could hear each other over the music. Made reservations over the web and left special instructions that were both read and acted upon. The only bad part was the loud music!"

  • "Went for my mother in law's birthday with the whole family. They were very nice, and had a lovely view of the resevoir. Even comped one of our desserts for the birthday. Very nice Ordered the special, was a bit overcooked, or maybe sat in kitchen a little too long. The waitstaff and hosts were very nice and very accommodating. BUT, maybe they didn't have enough folks, but I felt like we had to look for our waiter sometimes, and definitely just started busing our own empty dishes onto the nearby counters. I think this reflects more the number of folks, rather than the people there. I found them very nice, and helpful, just maybe too busy, or they need specific busing help? I would recommend this place for drinks and a simple meal on the deck"

  • "My wife and I dined with a couple we'd never gone out with before. The attentiveness of the wait staff and the quality of the food found us lingering long over our desserts and after dinner drinks to get to know each other comfortably over a great meal. The ambience and attentiveness of the staff made us feel welcome to relax and enjoy the experience. A great place to go for good food and great service."

  • "We are very frequent diners at The Boathouse @ Sunday Park this past visit a huge disappointment. It was the first Monday night they were back open after the winter for dinner.Menu has completely changed. Lots of favorites are now gone, including the mussels appetizer and fried zucchini. We ordered a margherita pizza it was soggy not crisp no fresh tomatoes only sauce little cheese & basil. Fish taco's not great either. The wine list changed not many choices and they had no Sauvignon Blanc at all except the most expensive one. After this experience we may not visit as often since our many of the favorites are missing plus the items we did have were not great. Hopefully they will receive more of the same feedback and revamp the menu again."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 51st anniversary there because we wanted to "Remember the Past" We lived in Brandermill from 1986-1989; loved it there and dined at Sunday Park at least once a week. Boy, what improvement in every aspect since then. We loved it. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly. Service is great, atmosphere is great and the food is wonderful. The view can't be beat!"
