Diner Reviews
  • "Really enjoyed brunch at The Boathouse at Sunday Park this past Sunday. We were able to get a seat outside that was mostly in the shade and there was a wonderful breeze coming off the water. Some tables will be in the sun parts of the day as the only shade comes from surrounding trees. The food was great, from the clam chowdah (NE version) to the kale salad to the fish tacos and finally the bread pudding for dessert. Only issue was the waiter was trying to cover both inside and outside tables and the service was a little slow but didn't really mind with the great view of the lake."

  • "Poor service, terrible food (buffet), entertainment was sub-par, and extremely unprofessional (band). Reservation was made for six, was seated at a table set-up for four and they added two chairs."

  • "The view from our table was great. We almost felt like we were dining at a resort. The waitress was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. We had a great time!"

  • "Our food and service was excellent. Chelsea made everything sound delicious, even food I don't normally like!"

  • "Service was good. Sitting on the deck was great since the weather was perfect this time. We go here once or twice a year and have brought out-of-town guests a few times. The food this time was not as good as it usually has been. Sunday brunch buffet was always a favorite for us but we haven't been to that in awhile."

  • "I have eaten at The Boathouse several times and have yet to be disappointed. Good food and good atmosphere. In my view, better than the downtown location."

  • "We ate here on a Sunday evening and sat on the deck next to the lake. The food was fresh and good and the scenery was great. The sunset over the lake was spectacular. The special was sold out, but a simple substitute for the main item in the special allowed us to enjoy the meal. The waitress was helpful in arranging the change to the special with the kitchen."

  • "The food was good but nothing to write home about. The presentation was spot on. Sercice however, our waitress never came and checked on us until the end of the meal and she forgot about our 1st course. The salad came and then a few minutes later the entrees came. She missed out on a $50 bottle of white we wanted and a $15 appetizer. I am in the industry and critique every little thing. I will come back though because the view of the sunset is the best in the Richmond area"

  • "The food was good and the waiter really made an effort to create a fun and pleasant evening. We were having a regular evening meal with our daughter. We always enjoy sitting outside on the patio at Boathouse."

  • "We've eaten at this restaurant more than a few times; however, this was probably the largest group of people we had dining with us (11 people). I received a confirmation call from the restaurant the day before(?) the event -- which was scheduled for a Saturday evening so that we could catch the beautiful sunset over the water. I told them it was my husband's birthday we were celebrating and that I would be bringing a cake and ice cream that would need to go into the frig/freezer. Everyone (pretty much) arrived on time and we were seated on schedule. We had two wonderful servers taking care of our large table. The drinks were great, the food was delicious, the service was wonderful!"

  • "For a seafood restaurant I would have expected the crab cakes to be on point. While there was no filler there was also no flavor. The mash potatoes lacked seasoning including salt. For a $26 priced entrée I do expect the chef to understand how to properly salt mashed potatoes. The best part of the meal was the tuna appetizer and our dessert, crème brulee. The waiter was excellent though so he was not slighted for the poor food quality. Presentation was also seriously lacking in the entrée. I will not eat here again or recommend."

  • "We had a flawless experience. Outdoor sunset seating, service, food & Caribbean band made for a great anniversary night. Best overall restaurant in Chesterfield County!"

  • "We had reservations for Father's Day brunch. When we arrived at 1 pm we were placed at a table in full sun where we literally were baking and sweating. I talked with the hostess about how that table was not going to work. Her response was "we can't control the sun." We were placed inside with a good view which was nice. We waited over 1 hour after ordering for our food to arrive and it was cold. The manager admitted no one should wait more than 30 mins for their meal. I noticed some people who arrived after us received their food before us. Others were waiting as long as we were and were equally frustrated. We did not have to pay for the meal but it soured our Father's Day outing."

  • "Went to The Boathouse for our anniversary based upon several referrals. Definitely a treat to enjoy a nice dinner with a great view. The selection of food was great and tasty. The wait staff was very attentive and responsive. Would highly pass along referrals for a great dinner date."

  • "Father's Day/HS Graduation. Reservation site asked about stairs (2 levels). Pictures had beautiful inside, views of reservoir. Arrived & were seated OUTDOORS - IN FULL SUN. We said that we couldn't sit in the sun, and were told patio seats were where we were being seated, & nothing else available - all other (shaded) seats were being held for reservations. Not given option of sitting indoors; there were many empty inside tables! Said we were leaving, & were then seated inside. Reservation at 12:15. Daughter's side salad arrived at 1:10; remainder of food at 1:35. One hour 20 minutes wait for 3 meals is unacceptable. Manager came and spoke with us, took care of meal. Food was good, but was an extremely disappointing experience."

  • "Holy cow! We visited on a bright sunny day and thought it would be perfect to sit outside. Wrong! Our table was one of many that was directly in the sun with no chance of shade. But making matters even worse was the table and chairs were made out of METAL! They radiated so much heat we could have cooked our meal on them, literally. The frustrating part is they are designed for umbrellas (hole in center and weighted base below) but no such luck. I overheard diners at several other tables complaining as well. When i mentioned it to our waiter he agreed but said it would be too expensive to outfit tables with umbrellas. Seriously though, how much would a dozen or so umbrellas cost and is it really worth the cost of third degree burns?"

  • "Went there for Father's Day, which I knew was going to be busy. When I made the reservations, I was not told that we were going to be seated outside. The waiter was ok nothing special - talked a little much to the other waiters standing where he was seen most of the time. I guess that's the reason that my food was not very warm - instead of going to check on the food - he was talking. My husband had the steak which he said was very good and I had the fried seafood - the catfish, shrimp, etc was very cool. The waiter did tell the Manager who did come to the table and offered to fix me something else and gave me a $10 card. I think I will stick with the one at Rockett Landing from now on - never had a complaint there."

  • "We have had better service and food in prior visits. The reservation through open table should have guaranteed a place but we ended up waiting almost an hour past our reservation time despite having other parties seated while we waited. We had hoped for their featured lobster but by the time we we're seated they had run out. The service was not nearly as attentive as in past visits but once the food arrived it was nice."

  • "A lot of hype, with nothing to show for it. Portions were somewhat tasty, but tiny. Prices are extremely high. We had gift cards, which made it slightly less painful. It's not at all worth the prices. We won't be back."

  • "We had a reservation that specifically noted outdoor seating for a special occasion. After waiting almost an hour past our reservation time, we were shown to an indoor table. We were eventually shown to an outdoor table but had lost our seats at the bar while we waited again. Then our waiters were abruptly changed on us. The hostess station was clearly overwhelmed on a busy evening, but a little friendliness and interest in their patrons would have gone a long way to making us overlook the errors"

  • "This was our second time eating dinner at the Boathouse. The first time was bad too. The second time, we thought we would stick to easy things, like a wood fired pizza. Unfortunately, not good. I ordered the mozzarella and basil - sad. It was essentially a kids cheese pizza. I expected fresh slabs of mozzarella and fresh tomatoes. That didn't happen. Oh well. My husband got the overlooked fish tacos which were served with soggy fries. Even the kids meal wasn't spared. Gross noodles served in a soup of butter with awful carrots. Luckily, the service and view were great. To be fair, we have brunched here before and it was fine. However, we will not return."

  • "The Steak my wife ordered was overcooked-from stories we hear of mishandling of food when they are sent back (not necessarily the Boat House), we made the best of it. The lobster she got should have been called a Crawfish-not very big. The Appetizer, Clam Chowder and my Entre were good."

  • "I've been to this location on numerous occasions, but my last visit was very disappointing. After waiting more than 10 minutes for my waitress, I had to get someone to come to my table to bring a glass of water. I asked who would be my waitress and after seeing who it was I realized that she came past my table 3 times, attending to the guests immediately to my right and behind me. Upon alerting another waitress, the waitress finally came to my table to see if I needed anything. After telling her that I noticed she overlooked my table, her response was..."well, would you rather have someone else serve you"!! Needless to say, I let the manager know of this and he had a different waitress serve me."

  • "We like The Boathouse and go there often, but the last two times the bill was really messed up. I know mistakes happen and when brought to their attention they fixed it. However, the last time we were there they overcharged us by 100 bucks and then brought us the wrong check that was over by 60 bucks. If you go to this restaurant please be sure to review the check carefully before you pay, especially if dining with a large group."

  • "We had our family in from out of state and a total of 9 people. Our reservations were for brunch at 1:00 and we had no food until 2:30. It arrived in shifts and was cold as if had been sitting. Not worth it at all. We have come to the restaurant before and had a good experience but this was particularly disappointing. I do not want to unfairly bash an establishment but this was our experience this time."

  • "My wife and I chose this restaurant for a date without the kids. We enjoyed the food, the overlook of the lake, and the live music so much that we cancelled our movie plans and spent a few hours enjoying the ambiance. Recommend a later reservation so you can enjoy the sun set over the lake, the cooler temps, and the outdoor lighting. Will definitely go back again."

  • "Two things marred our visit. First, the table was directly in line with the sun and there was no relief to be had during the entire visit. We asked to be moved to another table and there were plenty at that time (5:00 p.m.) which were empty but the hostess staff refused. Sure it would have been a little trouble but making their diners feel cared for is their job...it came across as plain lazy. Then there was the issue of us using gift cards. The server tried to explain it the best he could (he needs to work on his explanation if this is going to continue being their policy) that they could only use 80% of the value of the card. We will not be back although we live across from the water in Woodlake. "

  • "I took two of my son's teachers to The Boathouse on Monday night. Fabulous! Loved the Billy Bread (my favorite!) and loved the Saur's spices on the table. Whenever restaurants support local I recommend it to friends and always return.... so I will be back! We had lovely apps (calamari was tender, lightly breaded, and friend to perfection) and my spinach salad with salmon was grilled perfectly and very filling. Great Mojito (made with their own mint) and a beautiful sunset! I am thrilled to find a neat place to take people for a special evening!"
