The Boathouse at SaugatuckExciting menu, mediocre food. The Boathouse is a charming little place with an exciting menu of modern Italian with a nice creative flare. Our appetizer course was spectacular. I had beautiful charcuterie and even better cheeses. But, my wife noted immediately that the bread wasn't really up to the quality expected of a place of that caliber. From appetizers we moved onto a pasta course of butternut squash ravioli. And, while in a flavorful sauce, the squash filling was bland and the ravioli lifeless. Given this is a favorite dish of ours, we were pleased to eat it but disappointed. And, when our main course came it was under-seasoned and my steak, though cooked perfectly to rare, was tough. Desert was mediocre except for the Parmesan gelato. That was a delight!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat overallFirst time at the Boat House but not the last. Wonderful river views. John our waiter was attentive but sutle. Food was perfect. Recommend that you give it a try.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSorry I hadn't found this sooner! We are from Philadelphia and were in the area to celebrate our graduating daughter's induction into Phi Betta Kappa - a very special academic achievement. We wanted a fine meal in an interesting atmosphere and we certainly found it. The food was serious italian, fresh and delicious. The attention to service was very good. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it took a while for them to offer and deliver drinks. But, they were also very gracious when they simply asked us for approval to serve out daughter (she is 21) without asking her to fish out her ID. Back to service - I am very familiar with service expectations and I noticed our waiter (head waiter) correcting and explaining small things to the assistants.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMTHe food is always deliciousTHe food is always delicious and they are fine with special dietary requestrs.

Hidden from public view within the Saugatuck Boat Club it automatically is at an immediate disadvantage for attracting clientele. The room is very nice, very quiet the night we were there (as we were the only ones present on a Thursday evening)with brother Antonio, as our very attentive waiter. The food is above average Italian and although no real creativity, was enjoyable. We will return once again as it is definitely worth a try.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent: homemadeThe food was excellent: homemade pastas and interesting fish and meat entrees. Service was quite good. The dining room setting was good with tables apart making conversation easy.
