Diner Reviews
  • "This place has a fantastic view of Kits beach and the sunset is spectacular. The food is over-priced and while the service was friendly it was just okay."

  • "The location is unbeatable but unfortunate as a choice for a birthday or other special dining experience. May be great for very young people but too noisy to visit with, or even to hear, companions if older. Fish was seriously overcooked."

  • "It's in Kits, the view is always great. If you enjoy the Boathouse, this is probably their best location."

  • "Love the fish menu. The view is always amazing. Our waiter Ryan was very attentive. However, if you are looking to have dinner with another couple, conversation was very difficult at first when the restaurant was full. Not until later in the evening when 1/2 of the restaurant was empty could easily hear each other."

  • "I've normally dined at the English Bay location but after trying this new Boathouse location I am convinced that location doesn't matter, that all of them are just as amazing as the other! This is by far my favourite food destination when I'm in Vancouver!!! The cocktails are amazing, the complimentary bread is hot and fresh, and the main courses are to die for! Can't wait for my next trip so I can enjoy it again. Side note, the views are absolutely breathtaking!!"

  • "Went out for a friday nght meal with iour 4 year old. Location was stunning with a waterfront beach view, Service was great we had a server that was very attentive and great with our shy little girl. Would definately go back,"

  • "I went to the Boathouse/Kits while visiting my son, who attends college in Vancouver. He invited three friends, and we all had a wonderful time. Great food, fun atmosphere, great service, sunset view...I could go on and on. I will definitely return and recommend this restaurant to all."

  • "The new Boathouse on Kits beach has a spectacular view and, once the patio doors are opened when the weather is nicer, would be a prime sunny-day location. The food, however, considering the price, is just ok. It's not bad but it's not great; largely average fare and IMO you could find better these days at similar chain restaurants such as Earls, Milestones or Cactus Club. But, as I say, it's the location that sets it apart. The service was pretty good."

  • "The food was good, but nothing to rave about. I would return but probably just for casual fare food and drinks. Servers were friendly but very average in terms of professionalism."

  • "if you're looking for a nice place to dine with beautiful view this is it. the restaurant is really nice, the wine list is ok, the food is splendid. service personnel CAN be a bit more cautious and definitely need an extra eye for details. steak is good, surf & turf is delicious, dessert is super. what's really disappointing is the coffee afterwards. i expect in such restaurants with such prices a decent CUP and not a standard ugly cantine/hospital mug of coffee (not even worth starbucks mug)."

  • "The food is good - what you'd expect from the Boathouse group. The location cannot be better, especially with a table by the window. Service is friendly and prompt."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "I liked the view, it is one of the most interesting places in Vancouver. The food was nice, and the service was also good, but if we could meet people who genuinely smile, not just for the sake of doing job, it would even be better"

  • "We went for Vallentine's Day dinner. The special menu was excellent and we enjoyed our evening very much."

  • "The staff was awesome and accommodated us completely with our request for a romantic table by the window"

  • "They have a free window table but somehow save it for another party. Thought their window table are supposed to be first come first served?? We were there first!"

  • "This would have been a 5 star rating across the board but a patio heater that became too hot without someone coming by until too late in our meal (they were fantastic in the beginning) chased us away before enjoying dessert and more drinks :("

  • "It was our first time dining at The Boathouse at Kits Beach, and it definitely will not be our last. The food was delicious and the staff were all very friendly and helpful with menu choices. We loved it!"

  • "Noramlly, restuarants are very busy and slow and chaotic on Valentines day but my wife and i found the Kits Boathouse to be very well prepared and the customer servie was very good."

  • "Reservation was made and no problem getting a table... the tables by the window are two together and the ones right next to them is one table which is rather small.. we chose to move to a large table for 4 , much more room that the two seater which reminded me of a small wooden patio table. - it was rather cool inside, maybe they had the heat down, but on such a stormy saturday night you would think it would be warm. -Service was good, our waiter was most helpful and friendly and made food recommendations. My lobster steak combo was great, and steak was large and exceptionally tasty.. Lobster tail was good, but I had better ones in Halifax.... would go again and spend an evening in the summer to enjoy the view. --Tiger 7"

  • "This is the second time I've been here and not impressed - again. It's really only worth it if you go during summer and you can enjoy the view. Twice they've sat us on the outer patio even when the restaurant was empty and the heat lamps will cook your head. When we asked to move it seemed to be a very painful experience for the server to give us an answer. They did move us though. My steak was ordered med/rare and came very rare. When she finally came near the end of our meals to check on us she did gladly return it to the kitchen to cook further, and they added some more fries to the dish. There are many restaurants to choose from in Vancouver so will not return. Worth it though if you can enjoy the view and have a cocktail."

  • "We go to The Boathouse often, but this is the first time we tried the one at Kits Beach. Food quality is good as with the other stores. The miso encrusted halibut was really good. The Thai curry lobster and shrimp was also very good. Be careful though. Our server described the curry as mild, but I would say it was closer to medium. Mocha Mud Pie was our choice for the DineOut dessert and we were not disappointed. Yum. Service was a little slow. Granted it was busy, but we were ignored for a good 10 minutes after we were seated. We also did not get the DineOut menu when were seated. The biggest let down was the seafood chowder. It was slightly watery and there wasn't a lot of seafood in it. Overall, I still enjoyed the meal."

  • "We went there for my husband's birthday. Had the Dine Out menu. Steak was chewy, Crème Brulee was not fluffy and light. We had to ask 3 times for some hot water. Glad didn't have to pay full price for the meal."

  • "In a time when Vancouver's food scene is exploding,.. the Boathouse chain's food in general is nothing special (though it stood out more in the 80s and 90s), but is certainly a good example of decent West Coast food (salmon, steak etc.). What this and ALL Boathouse restaurants do have are mind blowing locations and this one is no exception, in fact one of the best in the city IMO. It overlooks Kits Beach from the 2nd level for great night views and I imagine would also be about as Vancouver as it gets in the summer as it would be great for sunset and the windows retract in order to create a feeling as if you are outside on a patio but under cover. Good place for corporate outings where adventurous food isn't the focus."

  • "Had a window side table on a beautiful clear evening. Great food, great waiter! The Dine Out Vancouver promotion was on so it was even nicer being able the enjoy the lower 'meal deal' pricing. Would be an excellent place to take people from out of town to - especially those from the frigid east coast, to sit there watch people run by (even in the evening in the dark) in their shorts - we're so luck to live on the west coast."

  • "We were sitting near the windows (thanks for the great seats), and we found the summer patio chairs to be uncomfortable. Also the floor was very cold and we all had cold feet. The food was excellent all round. I had the cajun rubbed sockeye (in place of the steelhead, which was out of stock). The fish was cooked perfectly and the flavours worked well together. The dessert was good, but for the prix fix it was a little too much. We agreed that half the creme brule was enough. We shared the other dessert, a Mocha Pie. All 4 of us have had a better mocha pie before. I enjoyed myself and will come back for another dinner. Thank you."

  • "Food was alright, ordered my steak medium rare but came out as well, but the server got me another one, its still overcooked but I ate it anyway. Service was very good and servers were really polite. Great view but too bad they did not have a window seat for me."

  • "I thought Boathouse was only for nice view - I used to think meals were too expensive for the taste. This location was the first time for me. I really like the service, and the ocean view. I got the window table that I requested. Only downside about the seating was that cold air was coming in through a gap between window panels. My side was sealed well but my friend had to keep her coat on because of this. One ordered Lobster Benedict from the brunch menu, and the rest ordered fish (steel head, cedar plank salmon, and miso halibut). Benedict was terrible for the price. I would not ever order it again. However, the rest was excellent. We also had calamari and oyster along cocktail drinks, and cheese cake. All very yummy! will come back"

  • "This restaurant had a great atmosphere and the food was fantastic. The wait staff didn't pay much attention to us which was a little disappointing but it really is only a minor blip in an otherwise great night. We went as part of the dine out Vancouver festival and couldn't have been happier with our choice."

  • "Where we were seated there was a draught which made us feel cold. We needed to talk loudly in order to hear each other."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "The tables in this restaurant are much too tightly placed, leaving no privacy from other diners. We were put at a table jammed between others and on a primary route for servers. All evening the servers were squeezing by the table, bumping my chair and disrupting our dinner. In addition, the place was too loud. When the music is loud, all the diners must shout to carry on conversations. Loud music plus shouting diners adds up to an unpleasant dinner. This restaurant may be all right for lunch, but I won't be back for dinner."

  • "Place was great, great environment. Only complaint was I had they worst seating in the place (near the bathroom) and eventually just had to ask to switch places. They should not seat anyone in that area as it will ruin the experience."

  • "My girlfriend and I signed up for the Dine Out menu. We picked Boathouse at Kits because of the supposed gorgeous view. However we got a seat that was tucked away in a corner by the bar. Halfway through the dinner we were freezing in our seats. The food was mediocre; average for a chain restaurant. The waitress was short with us, although she could of just have been stressed since it was a busy Saturday night."

  • "Beautiful room with unobstructed views to the night sky and (in our case) a gorgeous sunset over the water. Warm atmosphere with good service and a delicious dinner (good portions a bonus) made for an enjoyable evening out."

  • "We visited the Boathouse to try their dine-out $28 menu. I enjoyed my blackened sockeye salmon but my husband was not very impressed with the grilled chicken and roasted vegetables with penne. The choice of penne for the pasta seemed poor. Perhaps linguine (i.e. something lighter) would have been better. The West Coast seafood chowder was delicious."

  • "I love the fish! Order the mussels. For a quiet and intimate dinner by faux candlelight I recommend dining there on a Monday evening at about 9 pm. Great scenic view."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at the Boathouse. The location is great, the service was nice and the food was good. However, for the price of the food we expected it to be better. For example the salmon and the halibut we had was not perfectly cooked. Unfortunately it was overdone. The sides were average and not exciting. So in summary, we think it's a nice restaurant with decent food but is some steps away from being outstanding."
