  • "Food was delicious. Bartender was so friendly and helpful. However, service was unbelievably atrocious. Sat us 30 mins past our 830pm reservation. Put us at a distant table off the dining room, next to the kitchen door. When we asked to switch, they would not seat us at one of the two open/empty tables for 2 in the back- they said they were reserved. Instead, they sat us at a table for 4. We did not know who our server was the whole night. The only way we could order/get assistance was to ask anyone we could grab walking by for help, since we were completely neglected the entire evening. A shame because the food was so lovely."

  • "We had a party of six with is and sat downstairs. Not a great location and very noisy. Food was ok, nothing memorable. The menu was good, but not distinguished. The servings were on the smaller side, so if you are hungry you will spend at least $20 for an appetizer, $35 for an entree and still feel very hungry. Service was good and attentive."

  • "Pearl remains our favorite but the Boarding House gave its sister restaurant a great run. The decor is unique with a curved copper like interior that is intimate. I had the tuna tartar and the octopus special while my wife had the corn soup and lobster risotto. The food was fabulous from a presentation, texture ans taste perspective. My wife thought the souo was the best she ever had. Food portions are modest which we like. We highly recommend."

  • "We've been visiting Nantucket for over seven years and gone to many delectable restaurants all over the island but somehow missing The Boarding House. Well,I am happy to say, we have a new restaurant to add to our yearly rotation! We dined on crispy and sweet hush puppies and golden and crunchy zucchini flowers for appetizers. Both were outstanding!For entrees we ate succulent slices of strip steak surrounded by a tasty panzanella salad and perfectly prepared fried chicken with tender string beans.My only suggestions to our delicious meal would be to lose the potato salad that accompanied the fried chicken and to have a few more choices of dessert such as the strawberry rhubarb cobbler or the southern buttermilk pie that are on the website."

The staff went above and beyond to make our special evening a memory to cherish. We plan to return to Nantucket for the opportunity to return to the Boarding House, it was that good!"

  • "I was attracted to the decor with copper-colored ceilings and walls, painted medallions on the part of the ceiling over my table, curved architectural touches, etc. Tables were close enough together for the exchange of greetings and there seemed to be a congenial atmosphere. I was there during the Nantucket Wine Festival and the couple to my right were a winery owner/winemaker pair from Sonoma County. Unfortunately, I had booked an early dinner following a cheese and wine tasting, so my appetite was not up to par. I skipped both appetizer and dessert and only ate about half of the excellent trout entree. Service was slightly formal. The next afternoon I saw a crowd enjoying beverages on the porch which looked very inviting."

  • "Had the scallop roll for brunch on Saturday during the Nantucket Christmas Stroll. It was fabulous! It was so good, that my husband decided to order one after he had finished his oyster appetizer and Ceasar salad -- also quite good... I had a very good Bloody Mary as well... The scene was very happy and festive, and the service was great considering how busy it was. Would highly recommend The Boarding House, but especially the delicious scallop roll !"

  • "Was disappointed. The tuna appetizer and pear and parsnip soup were absolutely fantastic. The chicken pate as well was very nice. However the entrees were very disappointing. One was the skirt steak which was ordered rare- some of it was well done, some perfect but many were chewy. The seafood stew was skimpy- not filling. There were no specials which was unusual. The desserts were few and not very interesting. All in all- would not return."

  • "While the ambiance of the outdoor dining porch was romantic and charming, the food was disappointing. My mixed fruit mimosa tasted like spoiled fruit. All the entries had a southern twist: shrimp and grits, fried chicken and waffles. The actual food was a disappointing imitation of the real thing. The shrimp and grits tastes like cream of wheat cereal with three shrimp thrown on top and I could barely choke it down. The chicken and waffles were small and dry with a couple pieces of chicken on top."

  • "My husband and I visited the Boarding House on Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend- Figawi weekend. It was very noisy and there were several large groups in the dining room. The bar was packed with mostly young people. Not quite the atmosphere we were looking for but if that's your scene, it would be fun. The food was good and the service great so we would try it again on a different weekend."
