Ordered the venison loin and tuna crudo. Both were incredible. The venison was perfectly prepared, very tender and tasty. The cocktails are unique and special as well. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I will definitely be back.

While looking for a special spot for our 35th wedding anniversary, I chose the Boardinghouse. My husband and I are avid watchers of Check Please the TV show on PBS. We loved Alpana Singh as the host of the show and also as the sommelier at Everest. However, we were disappointed by her restaurant. It is extremely noisy and our server acted like she was waiting on us in her sleep. We were not allowed to enjoy our glass of champagne with our appetizer as service was extremely hurried. The one high note is that the wine list is exceptional.

Our track record for a special occasion night out without kids is less than stellar. When the night started with horrific traffic, we thought we were on a similar path. However, the staff at Boarding House made certain we had a memorable evening. They accommodated our late arrival; sat us at an intimate table per our Open Table request; had delicious food offerings with seamless service; and left us satisfied and enjoying our celebration. Thank you Boarding House!

Living in Chicago you can get bogged down with mediocre restaurant service (good food but very poor service, great service but bad food, etc) and it can get quite depressing. BUT, I am oh-so-happy to report 'The Boarding House' fulfilled every aspect of a great dining experience - top notch organization (from hostess stand to bus boy & everything in between). Food - Fabulous (braised octopus, hen egg & polenta fries with truffle oil, Venison, Salmon, Sturgeon). All equally tasty and consumed with absolute pleasure & happiness. Our server was very pleasant & ran the table efficiently (we were able to enjoy our cocktails first and the dinner flowed easily from there). She was very knowledgeable about their wine selection and was able to help me find the right wine for my venison. We dined early (6pm) as we had my mother with us and noise can easily overwhelm her - very wise decision because as we were leaving around 8pm the room had filled and was becoming slightly more noisey (but manageable to carry on a conversation). Beautifully decorated and well maintained areas (from the lower bar floor to the third floor dining room). We will definitely be back.

On our most recent visit everything was better than ever. The venison was still superb, perfectly cooked and tender, as was the octopus. The tagliatelle was just slightly overcooked, but excellent nevertheless. Earlier issues with the wine list seem to have been corrected. Service was prompt, helpful and friendly.

We were delayed by Chicago traffic as we were trying to squeeze in a nice dinner out before a Bulls game and were stressed that things wouldn't work. Well, from start to finish, they did. We were seated quickly and had some of the best service at a restaurant that I've had in a long time. We were presented some wine recommendations and selected one that we hadn't experienced before. It was a great selection. Food was tremendous, most importantly, and only wished we could have lingered longer to enjoy the atmosphere and a post dinner drink.

The ambience was nice enough but nothing on the menu jumped at us. Our server was not very attentive, we waited for lengthy periods to place wine order, order food and so on. He didn't really go on about anything on the menu despite us telling him none of us had been there. The food was just okay. Very good but for $100 tab/person (wine included) I think there are other places I'd go. Then at the bar afterward and huge piece of Saran Wrap made tks way into my friend's drink. It was about one square foot. So odd that we didn't get a free round. It was gross. The bartenders were very friendly and personable. They were the best part about the evening.

What a great experience. From bar area downstairs to the gorgeous dining room upstairs and it's wonderful view this is a great place to have dinner. The manhattan I had was exactly what you'd want from the classic cocktail and the wine our waitress suggested went beautifully with the venison dish I had. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. It was a great place to celebrate our anniversary.

On a business trip and had never been to the restaurant. First floor is a very loud bar and at first we were skeptical that we could eat in that atmosphere but we were taken upstairs to the dining area, where the noise level was much more tolerable. Wait staff was very knowledgeable and friendly; excellent drinks; delicious food - everything we tried was beautifully presented and delicious. Had a pork chop, which I seldom order in a restaurant, and it was amazing. I can still taste the oatmeal raisin cookie sandwich we shared for desert Unique combinations of food, but I would still call it comfort food.

A group of 4 friends dined at The Boarding House. We had an early reservation so the restaurant was rather quiet for a weeknight. When you walk into the bar you are mesmerized by the decor....the sparkle of the wine glasses suspended from the ceiling. The bar area is large and vibrant. An elevator takes you to the third floor dining room, which is absolutely stunning. Gorgeous floor to ceiling windows, lovely decor and again a surprise on the ceiling.....thousands of wine bottles....incredible. Our meal was fantastic. Fresh burrata salad was the best I've ever had. Seared sturgeon with lentils was smokey and delicious. The wine list was extensive, only complaint would be to have more wine by the glass offerings. Service was attentive.

The food was great, as usual. Excellent tender octopus, almost al dente pasta and perfectly prepared venison. Salads were also very good. Extensive wine list with some unusual wines at reasonable prices, and a couple of great wines by the glass. Service was good once we made contact with a server, but it took a long time (15 minutes or so) for our presence to be noticed.

We were out for a GNO.....ordered a glass of Proseco and received a glass of something else. When we asked our waiter what this was, his reply - we don't sell Proseco and this is the closest thing to Proseco. Duh!! He should have told us that and let us decide if we wanted to change our cocktail. The two other girls had the pork chop and the scallops - they were much better than mine....I ordered the grilled flat iron - YUCK! A big mess of carmelized onion goop on top of the under cooked beef - not good at all!! Our server was just ok.....i would not recommend Boarding House!

The cocktails before dinner were outstanding in a lovely bar setting. The dining room is lovely and our server was outstanding convincing my spouse that the venison on the meal would be outstanding with the wine we were drinking. While neither of us are venison fans, he convinced us in an appropriate style so my husband ordered it. It was outstanding! As was my entrée as well. We enjoyed the experience overall and will return.

My wife and I dined at The Boarding House to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with "happy anniversary" and we probably heard that from 3-4 others during our evening there. The staff was beyond attentive and our waitress (I wish I could recall her name) was comfortable, knowledgable and beyond helpful. She added quite a bit to the enjoyable experience. We had the salmon and Berkshire pork chop and several dishes compliments of the chef. All were cooked to perfection, well seasoned and very well portioned and plated. We had an amazing experience at The Boarding House and will definitely return again soon.

Unfortunately the seating plan is not to our taste. Too tight quarters for us. This really takes away from the dining experience. Plus - please walk around and check tables before open. We ordered martinis and had to send them back as both had really funky taste. Server was a bit off putting and kept saying she was not upset that we had problems - as if we cared what she thought. The food was just ok. Have eaten here several times before including a wonderful meal during very busy "restaurant week". The food, cocktails and wine have always been great but this time was not even a good experience. Will give it another try as it has been a favorite neighborhood restaurant but just one more try.

We live just a short walk away but only now gave The Boarding House a try. What a pleasant treat.
