Welcome! The Boarding House opened December 2012 and is led by Proprietor and Master Sommelier Alpana Singh. Our historic building, which dates back to 1872, features several distinct areas that a bustling bar area, two distinct private dining spaces, and a comfortable dining room located on the building’s third floor.

Enjoy a curated and thoughtful list of 500 wines from around the world that will expertly complement your dining experience. Guests will be immediately enveloped by our ambient dining room, which is designed for everyday dining with service that is detailed, hospitable and personal.

The wine bar is available without reservations and seating is per availability.

  • "The Boarding House was nice, but I don't know if I'd go back based on price to experience. Food seemed a bit overpriced - $29 for a plate of scallops, but they were good and presented well. Atmosphere - the chandeliers, many times mentioned, are something to see. The waitstaff was very professional and informative. Our reservation was rather early for dinner - 6pm - and the atmosphere reminded me more of lunch dining than dinner dining, the Dining Room was empty and felt a little stiff. Once we were leaving it seemed the room was picking up and better ambiance. It also seemed odd that the Bar Room menu was larger than the Dining menu. I think its a place to go for a one-time experience to see for yourself."

  • "Our family is over running with April birthdays We choice to celebrate at boarding house. We had a large group and thoroughly enjoyed our bash. We have two vegans who were easily accommodated with special preparations. Our 1 y/o grandson was also accommodated with a bowl of veggies The food was excellent Of course the wine parrings and drink specials are what boarding house is known for. Overall a wonderful experice The service superb."

  • "The décor feels like a very fashionable friend’s home. I thought it was neat that on a Saturday night Ms. Singh was in the restaurant and greeting guests at the door. The drink and wine menu is great, but at 30 plus pages could be a bit much, our waiter was great about making suggestions and offering tastings. The menu changes often to be seasonal. On our visit, the appetizers were the highlight and good portion sizes for sharing. Main courses were tasty but not special the steak was the stand out, and I thought all of the seafood options were overcooked. Deserts were fantastic, especially the oatmeal cookie. I’d suggest going with a group of friends and order all the appetizers and desserts to share and enjoy some cocktails and wine."

  • "The atmosphere here was very quiet and comfortable. The service was excellent. Everything we ate, we thoroughly enjoyed. I had the squid ink pasta as an appetizer and could've made a meal out of that. The scallops as an entree were delicious as were the brussel sprouts that came with it. My husband had the salad with cherries and the salmon and he said both were extremely good. I would highly recommend The Boarding House for it's great service and excellent food."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner here. It was a little too noisy and the tables were a little too close together to be considered a romantic spot. The food was very good and innovative. We were warmly greeted when we arrived. The wine glasses and wine bottles hanging from the ceilings were a very creative decorating touch. We also liked the high windows, which also had a heat source to keep the diners warm."

  • "We always have delicious dinners and enjoy the unique ambiance at Boardinghoise. However after experiencing seriously rushed service by our servers, we will sadly not be returning. The past four times we have visited this restaurant, our server constantly comes to the table asking for our order often just after we have sat down or ordered our drinks. We ask for more time to enjoy our drinks and look over the menu only to have the server return after a couple minutes. We tried to explain that we needed more time but this request was ignored. This is obviously a policy of this restaurant. We have never experienced such extreme rushed service at any other restaurant we have visited."

  • "The energy level is high, the decor is fun, the staff are good looking and very cool. But the kitchen lets them down. Not one of 7 courses we ordered was better than just okay. And at these prices, I expect top quality. I could have made just as good a carrot cake at home. Not better, but just as good. Worse still, the other courses ranged from boring to offensive. Sure the salmon and pork chop were nice quality. And they were grilled correctly. But everything else on the plate was dull. The main course stuffed zucchini was undercooked, under-spiced, and just plain not worth eating. My lobster bisque should have been creamy but it was thickened with something besides cream. The lobster flavor was not fresh & the crab garnish was weird."

We ate in the dining room and found the service to be exceptional, the food delicious and the atmosphere inviting. The portion sizes were perfect and the prices were very reasonable.   • "Enjoyed a wonderful dinner during Chefs week at the restaurant. We ordered off the Chef's menu and also an additional appetizer. The chefs menu was mostly very good. The little gem salad was uneventful but everything else was awesome! We also had the braised octopus which was the absolute best I have ever had. The wine list was extensive and impressive. The restaurant itself is beautiful especially the wine bottle and wine glass chandeliers. Will be back for sure."

  • "This was my first time at The Boarding House and the chef's menu was a wonderful way to expereince the restuarant. I was seated promptly at my reservation time. The service was attentive and well versed in the menu and wine. I was able to taste a couple of wines in order to select the one I wanted, from the by the glass selection. Dining by myself, Claire timed the meal with ease and I did not feel rushed and enjoyed each course with time in between. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the lamb was excellent. As to be expected the wine list is extensive by region, grape and style. I was excited to see several bottles of my own small collection on the list especially smaller vineyards."

We enjoyed the chef'sweek menu which was a four course menu that was absolutely delcious and very reasonable. Each course was beautifully plated and tasted fantastic.   • "We recently celebrated our daughter's St.Patrick's Day Birthday at the Boarding House. We went early because we didn't want to be exposed to the overly energetic crowds that ususally appear at restaurants on that day. We really enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant as our food was pretty, tasty and filling with a waitress who was very helpful and up on the menu. My husband, who is a vegetarian was happy with the chef menu pick and my daughter was very pleased witht the lamb chops. I think I will try them the next time I go there. We got to talk to the owner, who was just as charming and as nice as she appeared while the host of "Check Please" on Channel 11."

  • "We had an 8:45pm dinner reservation. When we arrived they informed us that they were running a little behind and we would need to wait for a little while at the bar until our table was ready. I informed them that we had tickets to an 11pm show. Because of our need to be done with dinner by 11 PM they moved promptly with our dinner choices and wine selection. They provided us a wonderful wait staff that moved promptly and courteously. We were able to make a show with plenty of time and were even able to enjoy a leisurely dinner with coffee and dessert to follow. Incredible decor, delicious food and great wine!!"

I had the flat iron steak, which was cooked almost perfectly (some pieces were a little more done than others, but overall was cooked as I had asked). Octopus appetizer was delicious. The fig salad had a yummy dressing. Chocolate bar dessert great. Husband had the venison and said it was delicious and cooked perfectly. Would've liked a few more entree options or a couple daily specials other than the market fish. Beautiful space, service was wonderful."

  • "Res for 6 @ 9pm- seated about 9:15. Gave us time to enjoy a drink in the bar- bartenders very sociable. Server Collin was terrific- grt recommendations and superior svc. Began with the Polenta fries, octopus, calamari and the house salad, all were terrific, really liked the stuffed calamari. For entrees we had the amish chicken (really great, simple dish, well prepared), Scallops (with Pancetta, terrific), Berkshire chop- big plate of food, great presentation, great taste. Dessert came around with the Oatmeal cookies, Apple tart and the yogurt panna cotta was out of sight. I had noticed some less than stellar views for this place, but found nothing not to like, we'll return, look forward to bringing out of town guests to show off this gem."

Ambiance of the bar and dining room is unique and quite spectacular - I look forward to coming back. The only negative was a number of misses by our serving staff during our meal, but thankfully the food and ambiance more than made up for it."

  • "I had my birthday dinner with my family at the Boarding House, and overall, it was a lovely evening. The ambiance was breathtaking, and the staff was very attentive. We are big eaters and were happy with the food. My one complaint would be that we asked to have the courses brought out at a leisurely pace even though we ordered everything together, and the server insisted that he would time it appropriately. As soon as our appetizers were cleared away, the main courses came. We were literally finished eating within 20 minutes."
